Whew! Our Patapon contest is so over. We didn't plan for this one to be tricky, we wanted it to be easy! But, apparently, we are tricky bastards. A buncha entries we got only answered one question — the first one. Not much of a scavenger hunt if there's only one question, don't cha think? Reading comprehension is so important. Too bad more folks didn't read the Totoro post! What's more, too bad some people gave SEVERAL ANSWERS to number seven. The four folks who hit all the high notes and got everything right are:
nolifedopestar, Paul M., Pat O., sander_dutch
Hit the jump for the right answers and the bitter hate. Mmmmm, hate. Delicious!
Note: Answers or links were fine for this contest as we didn't specify.

The answer to number seven is seven? Brilliant! As long as you didn't cheat, we don't care how you got the number seven — just as long as you did. Regarding where that number came from, it's in the text:
ONE: Mrs. Bashcraft points out the vague outline of Totoro's belly.
TWO: I make a beeline to the hotel, tell them what happened and ask for something to get it out.
THREE: A hotel attendant I spoke with ambles over, carrying a broom.
FOUR: The custodian returns, carrying a long pole he's fashioned out of two shorter ones.
FIVE: The hotel clerk now has a crow bar and is trying to get it under the manhole.
SIX: He can't, so he gives it to another hotel attendant, who is able to get it under the manhole cover.
SEVEN: He's hollering at a sanitation worker across the street, asking for a pair of gloves. He gets them and flips over the manhole covering.
And because this was an easy contest, you could've just counted the seven people in the pic and send that along (even though two of them are not helping!). Let me kick off the comments, "I hate that mean human, Bashcraft."

Congrats to you all... I hate nobody but bigots... so no hate for Bashcraft.
Bitching allowed? Alright so, hang on. Some of the questions weren't really questions at all. Like #4. "Japan's most entertaining gaming journo wrote us a nice note. Find it." So did we really have to put "Jamzy" as the "answer." And if so, would we be disqualified if we did not? Because I know I only put the URL for that one.
@smashbruvah: Again I find the answer to my own question. Sorry, I should have read a little closer.
wait, so exactly how many party hats were there?
there was a contest? im going to go cry myself to sleep
I got them all right but I guess I was too late lol :( I checked Kotaku when I woke up before the contest started, played DMC for an hour, came back saw and did the contest as fast as I could but too late already :(
2.342 @ 11 Hz
@Ahsayuni: lol, I was thinking the same thing... Except for the crying to sleep bit
@smashbruvah:
Urls or answers were fine. No worries. We didn't specify.
@Brian Ashcraft: When will you stop being pure evil when you create these contests? :*(
Bah! I was off by one! Craptastic!
Congrats you lucky sons! :P
Bah, I scanned right over this one.
@Xeros606: Wow so the Party hats still lives... Guess that one will never die. Although I agree... damn party hats.
There are precious few opportunities to bring the "Hate Bashcraft" tag out from the vault. Don't let it slip by!
lol, this was a fun contest, shame i miscounted at the end ...
Wow, I won!
I was afraid i miscounted some party hats or stormtroopers, but the Kotaku Gods were with me on this one!
Thanks a lot guys!
Didn't bother because I knew he'd stormtrooper us somehow.
haha awesome, congratulations everyone.
Another kotaku contest of doom down, another one right around the corner.
I still refuse to enter a scavenger hunt since that last one.
@NitrousO:
Evil? I prefer charming.
@Brian Ashcraft: charmingly evil, then?
I was thinking of entering this competition but then realised the amount of work involved and decided against it.
Completely un-evil, heavenly even (for a change!) I think this is the first kotakount that I ended up with the right answer, and that feels like winning enough... almost!
Has someone already mentioned that Patapon is really Danger Mouse in diguise? Where's Penfolds?
Everything but the last one right. Woe is me. The ccrying time is now :(
Congrats! I stumbled onto the contest too late, but I probably would've miscounted even if I did ^^
@Brian Ashcraft: I'm a bit confused as to how your son didn't help. Without his tears, you would not have tried to get the doll out, thats helping. I know I still got it wrong (I counted the guest) but if a sliver is a whole then, well, he should count in my mind.
I swear, this next contest, I WILL get the counting question right!
Wait, there was a contest?
Did they win the game or just the bear?
Well I didn't really put an answer for a few. I just linked lulz. Missed the last one. That required actually reading or guess. But Congrats to winner!
I didn't think you or Mrs. Bashcraft helped, but whatever it was fun.
bah my name is 7...SEIVEN!!...I think I should get special consideration, but I was probably too late anyhow *sad panda*
O well, my PSP comes in the mail today and I get Patapon...just no action figure, with judo chop to go with it =(
:(
That is all.
Argh! Cursed by the ambiguity of a language I did not create, but yet must use. My BA in English is apparently not sufficient to achieve a single bearbrick. I'll console myself with my nuanced understanding of classic literature.
Sonovabitch.
I was one of the guys who gave multiple answers to seven. I wrote a whole mini-essay explaining that, depending on your point of view, the numbers could vary.
Oh well. I got my name as one of the answers. I'll let my attention whoring that Witzbold claims I lust for with each word be saitiated by that.
I too will complain about the counting. The question about the number of people that helped was ambiguous at best. Personally I guessed four not thinking about Brian helping out. But Mrs Bashcraft just pointed it out and the sanitation worked just lent some gloves.
To me that doesnt count as helping to fish it out. That statement involves some direct action.
Congrats to the winners. Also, when did this contest start? I think I missed something >_>
@Brian Ashcraft:
Charming indeed!
Damn, I wish I hadn't changed my answer to the last one. I did originally counted seven, but then I subtracted one because that guest wasn't really helping. Then I forgot the other attendant.
It was a charming story, though. Ashcraft, you sure are crafty. :D
Also, congrats to the winners! I sorta kinda in a way envy y'all.
I crave more scavenger hunts!!!!! D-:<
lol I forgot all about that contest...
That was fun and I got all the answers right.
My only request for the time sensitive contests is that you guys start them later in the day. That way, us west coasties have a chance to see the contest at the same time as the east coasties.
i got all the 7 right. I counted the 7 people in the pic and then I thought 7 questions, 7 people to help. It all kinda made sense. But i guess i was late.
..Bah. I got all of the answers right, and provided links, but I guess I wasn't fast enough.
