Europe Gets Two PS3 Bundles (Neither Of Them For MGS4)

You could almost hear it the instant news of the US MGS4 bundle hit: "what about Europe?" Well, sorry, Europe, you're not getting it. Instead, you're getting two bundles of your own. The first has been cobbled together to cash in on Blu-Rays recent Format Wars victory, as it offers the home theatre connoisseur a 40GB console and three Blu-Ray movies (Casino Royale, Spiderman 3 & 300). It'll be available on March 19. The other bundle has been cobbled together for the racing fan, and will include a 40GB unit and a copy of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. It'll be out on March 28. Both will cost €399, which is alright, but both will also include a single Sixaxis controller, which is not alright.

  • more sequels for the Playstation - call me back when it gets some original games.

  • No DS3?, why?.

Its like when you buy Time Crisis without a guncon...

  • No rumble? This is madness.
    THIS... IS... LIVING!!!
    *a toilet flushes*

  • @Kraykan:
    *sigh*

Says the man with a 360 avatar.

  • @Kraykan: Pff... sure, buddy. I'll call you back. When you make some original criticisms.

  • @Kraykan: Are you retarded?

    LBP

    The End.

But not really. There's more. But it's almost 4 a.m. and I have a 9 o'clock class. I'd rather put my efforts into sleep than making you less ignorant.

  • @Kraykan: FEE FII FOO FUMM!!

On topic; WTF? Why doesn't PAL get the 80 gig'er.
This is sum ole bull shit.

  • I remember back in the days of old, PS3 owners going 'but if you look at the wii's cost, you have to buy a SECOND controller and nunchuck for 80 bucks... it raises the price!'.

Now PS3 owners are being stuck with throwing out the vibrationless controller in the box, AND buying a second one.

Vibration is essential to me for racing games, I dont care what your arguments are. It lets me know when Im even slightly off track with that faint little rumble that becomes a bigger rumble as my wheels start hitting grass.

That being said, I'm looking highly forward to GT5. I've been playing Forza 2 to death, only because it reminds me so much of GT.

  • @Kraykan: Oh, you mean like the *very* original HALO 3 on 360? Or are you talking about the other original game called FORZA 2? Yeah, I thought so too.

  • @Kraykan:

go play halo 3(2.5) instead wait for halo wars and gears 2,ninja gaiden 2(1.5) and wait until Christmas and get a ps3 then :)

But in the meantime feel free to call me to get a 360 which is "nice" when:

-I don't need to play a fee to play online like warcraft

-I don't have to pay for themes and wallpaper

-I don't have to pay to get demos as fast as others

-I don't have to buy recharge stations or batteries...

-I don't have to buy a wireless adaptor and no in 2008 i use wireless inet, thx

-I don't worry for my purchase beeing faulty

-When u know hits that will come untill 2010 in the 360...

-And when m$ shows even the slightest care for customers, and yes all companies are for the money agree...

-I'll enjoy my ban,we talk at Home ;)

  • That's why they didn't announce plans for a MGS bundle. Why advertise that when you have something else in the meantime?

  • I`m getting pretty tired of gaming companies thinking that the English are only interested in football and racing games.

Give me a pack with some good strategy games or an FPS or two.

  • €400??? That's not alright at all! That's $600 for a console with no backwards compatibility with half a game or a Sausage fest movie + Super Emo movie (Casino Royale was already offered within a PS3 bundle, so it really doesn't count as a selling argument).

Not happy at all ::sad face::

  • I want my MGS4 bundle you mofos

  • Both bundles make sense... good marketing, Sony.

  • and i was holding out for that mgs4 pack, i still hope there gonna do it.

  • @Garo:

I agree, these are great bundles, though including a DS3 and BC in the GT5:Prologue pack would have been nice.

  • Sticking with the Sixaxis is just cheap. Not including the BD remote on the movie pack is also cheap. Come on SCEE, why can't you be a little more like SCEA?
I don't really care because I already have one but it's the principle of the thing...

  • €399 for the basic 40gb model with (effectively) a demo version of GT5? That doesn't sound like such an amazing deal to me. When did we all agree this "prologue" idea was acceptable?

  • So basically it's get a 40GB with either one simulation racing game or with 2 shit and one good movie? And I was even thinking I may end up buying the MGS bundle since people said the BC wasn't as bad as I thought D:

  • @Dasyatis: Actually this is a very smart business decision. EU eats up anything with Gran Turismo on it. If you ask me, for the EU this may be the best bundle yet for SCEE. This thing will sell like freaking no other. For the world wide sales since the Gran Turismo conseption (not counting Prologues) it's sold about 44 million. (GT1, GT2, GT3-Aspec and GT4) about 35% of those are EU sales. Not bad.

  • @Accordion:
True a DS3 for the GT5P bundle would be even smarter, but they still haven't announced a release date for EU :( or did they?

  • I`m not faulting them for that. You have to admit that a MGS bundle would pull in more.

All the bundles in the shops do seem to be racing or football though.

  • While these deals don't seem to hot, it indeed appears that Sony is trying very hard to get back on the ball with the proposals, marketing, and moves they have been making lately. I'm surely predicting they'll make a strong comeback this year.

  • One Xbox troll and five members of Sony Defense Force ... the banday can not come soon enough.

Seems like rumble is going to remain past-gen feature another few months here in Europe.

  • Seeing as most europeans are Sony fanbois then Sony can shovel all of there shit there and still expect good sales. If they weren't selling then you would get better deals like the Americans get due to weak sales of PS3 stateside.

  • @steliosco:

Yknow, everyone who slapped down that guys comment up till this point was pretty smart about it, right up till you.

    - Xbox Live is worth the 5 bucks a month. Thats three damn cups of coffee for a stable (well, at least more so than its other two competors), easy way of hopping into multiplayer matches in less than two minutes of turning the console on.

    - You don't have to pay for demos as fast as others, but 360 still tends to get its demo's before you do

    - The PS network is terrible compared to the XBLA. Not to say that the PSN is terrible, just terrible in comparison.

    - You dont have to buy recharge stations or batteries. The PS controller doesn't vibrate. And costs more than the 360 controller. A 360 controller w/ a play and charge kit is about the same price as a PS controller, and I'd take rumble over wonkey sixxaxis control anyday.

    - You did hit the head upon the nail though with the faulty thing. The 360 is terribly unreliable and the PS3 is a tank. Score one for you.

    - "-When u know hits that will come untill 2010 in the 360..." uhm... isn't that a good thing? I'd be very happy to see the 360 keep putting out 'hits' until 2010. Thats awesome, thanks.

    - I'm not even going to get into the games argument with you. The 360 has a WAY better library than the PS3 currently. Thats it. Thats all that has to be said about it. Except that multiplat games also seem to run better on the 360, because the dev teams doing the ports for the PS3 seem to be retarded.

    - 'm$', as you so lovingly call them, have such terrible customer service that they release a rumble controller and then dont put it in any of the system boxes so you're forced to throw out the one they give you and buy a replacement. Oh wait, thats not microsoft...

Dude. The PS3 doesn't stink at all. But your arguments are terrible. What you SHOULD have said was

    - The PS3, way more reliable than the 360

    - The PS3, much better media hub than the 360

    - The PS3, Blu Ray player

    - The PS3, more powerful (even if they currently have retarded dev teams not using this power)

    - The PS3, hard drive swapping is really fucking awesome

    - The PS3, finally has a few exclusives (besides resistance) that are pretty dope, like Uncharted and UT III (for the moment, at least)

    - The PS3, Folding@home

    - The PS3 and its PSP connectivity

    - The PSN and its lack of file size restrictions on games that the XBLA has, as well as some sick ass Playstation titles you can play on your PSP

    - The PSN and paying for things in dollars instead of mickey mouse points

  • @El-Suave: I agree with you there. If they do have plans for an MGS bundle but have already set out plans for these other bundles they're going to want to try and flog these deals first before announcing teh MGS bundle nearer the time. Bare in mind that in marketing it takes sometime to make bundles and get sign off to release things like this...

I'm still hoping that there is going to be a euro MGS4 release and if you look back through history on the PS2 there were MGS bundles in europe so I'd imagine it would be the same again.

As a side note the movie pack might be better labelled the "Action movie pack". Does it also mean that anyone underthe age of 15 will nto be able to buy the movie pack what with it being shipped with 300 and all?

What? No steering wheel replica that you can snuggly fit your SIXAXIS into? I'm appalled! ;D

I'm wondering why this bundle gets the 40gb and MGS4 gets the 80gb. Is it because of the MGS collection? If so, then what about the previous GT titles?

@steliosco: And you don't have frantically scramble to figure out if that new 360 console has the 'godlike' chip that could prevent yours from Red-Ringing. I like my 360, but I actually play decent games (i.e., Arcade titles, FFXI, and some Dead Rising with a little Mass Effect)

  • And yknow, if they put Spiderman 2 or 1 on blu-ray in that box instead of Spiderman 3, I'd probably be all over it.

  • Put in the DS3 and I might think about it. At least the price is quite reasonable compared to what it costs now.

  • Image of Sigma-D Sigma-D at 05:08 AM on 02/28/08 *

@Komrade_Kayce: I agree with you on your points, but I really want to score an 80gb, not cause of BC, but because I have some memory sticks from my camera and PSP. I hope I find one soon.

  • They have to get rid of the old controlers somewhere, right? And most of my fellow europeans don't seem to mind getting the old salami-from-behind treatment from Sony.

  • @Komrade_Kayce: Agreed... Spiderman 3 was just a total let down. Ohh and on your other comment you forgot to add the Indie titles that we are starting to see on the PSN. Everyday Shooter? Pixeljunk Monsters? Plus a ton of others that look pretty sick.

Besides the guy that had to start the first post by bashing the PS3 is a troll. If you talk about them to much they gain the awesome power of the keyboard and you can't shut them up. Pretend like they arn't there and they lose that magical power of douchedom.

  • @Del Deadeyes:

Yeah... its too bad about the 20gbs. With the hard drive swapping, they really were the best option once upon a time. I should have picked one up when I had the chance. Heres hoping someone trades one in (fingers crossed).

The 80 is pretty decent, for exactly the reason you said. The media card reader. I forgot about that. Definately a plus in the PS3's books.

(you hear me microsoft?!?!? I dont want to have to fucking install zune software on my pc to stream media over the network, i want to fucking copy my vids and pics into the 360 hd via cardreader. Not Windows Media Center edition.)

  • @Balance_In_Life (PSN):

And I didnt forget about that stuff. I just try to base all my arguments on what system currently has what going for it.

Remember the fiasco with Lair? That game was a system seller at one point

    ... before it came out.

I think LittleBigPlanet is going to be one of the biggest things to hit planet earth in years, but I'll reserve judgement on it being a 'awesome!' point of the PS3 until it comes out.

But I agree with you on the indie hits, its why Im very happy with the no file size restriction of the PSN. Bionic Commando remake will get played the way it was meant to be played, in full unadulterated unfiltered pure HD above 150meg file limit madness.

  • @Balance_In_Life (PSN):

Pixeljunk you say? I loved Everyday Shooter, it actually forced me to go out and start finding friends with PS3's to be able to play it. Maybe I can convince one into paying for it. Its like, an artistic game version of growing plants right (Not trying to oversimplify it or anything, the art in it looks beautiful).

I'll go give it a shot, thanks. :)

  • @Komrade_Kayce: We don't talk about Lair... Lair was never made, Lair never happened. I have no idea what game you are talking about.

As much as I love LittleBigPlanet I have to agree with you. IT COULD end up being the best thing PS3 has going for it, or it could be the largest flop ever. I personally are hoping that it does live up to the hype but I also reserve my judgment until I get to be hands on with it. It's still a first day buy for me but yeah I agree with what you are saying.

  • @Komrade_Kayce: No, its like a desktop defender game. Just with great music and really down to earth visuals. Still an amazing game though. I had a ton of fun with it. Ohh and try Super Stardust. I think it would be right up your alley.

  • "Both will cost €399, which is alright, but both will also include a single Sixaxis controller, which is not alright."

I'd say that even the first part is not alright. The Euro is currently worth a dollar and a half, which means those rumble free boxes will cost approximately $600. It doesn't get any better that Sony Sweden uses a really wonky conversion rate and increase the price by an additional 20% in Sweden (probably partly to make up for our VAT that is up to 5-7% higher than other countries in Europe), at least at the current base model. The 40GB model currently cost $725 here and that is most definitely not alright.

  • Backwards Compatibility is now dead in Europe.

The Americans and Japanese get bundles with games, dualshock 3 and backwards compatibility. Europe gets bundles with demos and no backwards compatibility or dual shock 3.

No mention of MGS4 means a European delay is now certain. Also no mention of dualshock 3 means it's uncertain if it will even be available in Europe in 2008.

This is unnaceptable. Why do the EU comission not fine Sony for blatent racism.

The legal definition of racism is as follows.

According to UN International Conventions, "the term "racial discrimination" shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin which has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life."

In 2005, a United Nations report expressed concerns about "deep and profound" racism in Japan and insufficient government recognition of the problem. The author of the report, Doudou Diène (Special Rapporteur of the UN Commission on Human Rights)

  • I think they are good deals. Though I'm not a huge fan of rumble anyway. The controller isn't out here until April.... maybe next bundle? I want to know what the new 40 GB bundle for here is.

  • What the... Where the hell is the MGS4 bundle? WHERE?! WHY DO YOU PAIN ME LIKE THIS SONY!? WHY!"?!?!?

  • @Grave of the Fireflies: Ummm... Everyone fucks Europe. Nintendo is even worse. Actually Microsoft is maybe the best with it but still horrible. And if you think you are getting fucked in the rear, look at those poor Aussies. I mean High School Musical stayed on there top 10 for months... I feel horrible for them.

  • @Balance_In_Life (PSN):

Will do. I heard good things about Super Stardust... and from what youtube is showing me, its right up my alley indeed (good call!). Games like Rez, Geo Wars and Everyday Shooter I'm totally in love with. Pretty strange that out of this most recent generation of consoles, I'm happiest with shit that could have been on a 486 chip PC almost two decades ago.

I guess I was thinking of that new PIxelJunk Monsters game that involves plants. I forgot there was an original one.
