While Resistance: Fall of Man's integration with Home should have bonus content fans excited, old school run-and-gun shooter fans should be pretty pumped about what they may be getting with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune's contribution. We hear that the Home portal for Naughty Dog's PlayStation 3 adventure will follow in Resistance's footsteps, allowing Home avatars to explore the game's levels without the threat of being shot at, a nice feature.
But it's the Uncharted mini-game that has us far more pumped.
According to our sources, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune comes to Home armed with a side-scrolling 2D arcade game, described to us as reminiscent of both Contra and Out Of This World. Sounds kind of like Capcom's 2D remake of Bionic Commando in its execution, full of enemies and exploding barrels to shoot.
Sony is apparently pitching features like these to developers to extend the lives of their titles, using strong first and second party development showcases to prove that Home can effectively market outside of traditional means. We hope they take them up on their offer, because we're definitely excited about the prospects.

my goodness ! the good news just keep on coming.!
Wow, sounds like going above and beyond for Home integration. Sounds really awesome.
so the really exciting thing is a 2D minigame? I guess I'm hard to impress or something.
I read articles like this and find myself both excited by the prospect and then immediately bummed out due to the fact that I have to wait for this.
Very eager for the added features Home will add to existing games.
Extending the life of your title isn't added value for the developer unless you charge for the extension.
2d uncharted?
That actualy sounds pretty cool. Hopefully this leads to Uncharted PSP at some point.
Ohhhhhh, me like.
this is sick bro! Home FTW!
What am I missing? Where is all this new coming from? Is there some convention I'm too out of touch with to hear of? Or has Sony just been sitting on all this good stuff and has finally exploded?
So awesome. Now tell us about warhawk please.
"a side-scrolling 2D arcade game, described to us as reminiscent of both Contra and Out Of This World."
Sounds like Flashback.
Wow, Home just got a lot cooler. I can't wait for this now. Isn't the release of Home sometime soon, too?
@Lot krotan (wut?):
its not so much that they are giving you a 2-D minigame. That, while cool, isn't exactly mindblowing. But its a small example of what devs could be doing with Home.
The whole exploring levels has me intrigued. Are you able to actual traverse the areas like you would as Nathan but with your avatar? Or is it more Guilty Spark (Forge) type flying around?
I need. Now.
I could get into a 2D Uncharted.
@Lot krotan (wut?): I dunno - sounds pretty bitchin' to me. Have you ever played Out of This World? Rock'n'roll.
But seriously...I'm glad to hear they have some game-related plans. Beyond "bowling" and "arcade" stuff, that is.
I find the idea of wondering around various levels in that kind of once-removed context pretty intriguing.
Both of these are pretty cool, but I fail to see what in hell they've got to do with home. A downloadable game and a new game mode? Other than the use of the avatar in the latter, how exactly does home fit in?
Post number 3 please McWhertor....Im hoping for a garage to keep your warhawk in....
Jeeesus, PS3 is kicking my arse woth good news lately. Might cut myself.
Sweet. Hot girls playing video games.
Oh, this article is also interesting.
@sascha23: like crack! i'm playing. Yea i agree with you. I'm really excited for this but still no release date. I mean, the open beta hasn't been announced. >.<
If alot of developers are on board with this it would be cool. Let's say for instance, in order to unlock a certain mini-game, you have to obtain a certain amount of accomplishments. That would really extend the life of the game.
I'm still not convinced all of this stuff will be free, but if so then cool!
Delay = good
Home doesn't exist. And if it does Uncharted will be about 5 years old by the time it rolls out. I'm sick of hearing about Home.
@Moonshadow101:
You know, that's a good point. Almost sounds more like downloadable extras for a game you own that they could/should be able to do right now without Home.
are these rooms only available to everyone or to only people who have the game? cuz i kinda just sold mine
@Torgen thinks AAA means "Costs $60": It adds value to prospective customers who may be sitting on the fence or gather interests of people who don't know about the title. This in turn is valuable to the developer who could probably use a little extra marketing to sell more copies of the game.
So... the new feature of Home is standing around in empty game levels and chatting? Might be a great experience in Silent Hill V.
Good God Y'all What is it good for? Absolutely nothing Say it, Say it, Say it.
@wisconsinista: You may be suffering from DEAD INSIDE
This is sweet, having you avatar be able to traverse these game areas sounds a lot like the holodeck from star trek. I could really get into this.
Althought the 2D Drake seems like it would make for an interesting Pitfall-type game
@Moonshadow101: Not that I'm disagreeing with what you are saying here, but they are definitely doing this to help push Homes involvement with established games from what I'm picking up.
It's not a bad idea, does Home need to be involved to make this happen? Nope, but it's a sweetener to Home because it is.
@Togen thinks AAA means..
The point is, the people who don't own Uncharted can get a taste and a glimpse of the atmosphere and themes, which could and will lead some people to purchase the game, even if they might not have before.
@wisconsonia
Actually, there was just a major release update to the Home beta made available a few days ago, and it is getting slicker and slicker, if the idea of Home is your thing.
@wisconsinista: you don't exist.
Just something unrealted to the topic, I really like how Micheal sometimes gives little messages when you hover over the thumbnail of the picture on the main page.
Keep it up!
@Lot krotan (wut?): Any news of anything 2D and sidescrolling makes me so excited it's insane. I'm a classic gamer, and I love classic style games. And they don't make enough of them anymore. So yeah, I think this is worth getting excited about for people who crave the 2D sidescroller!
I wasn't really too interested in Home at first, but if they can keep coming up with crazy ideas like this for it, I won't be able to avoid it. This does interest me quite a bit.
@wisconsinista:
Would you like to go ahead and let all news sources and blogs know what else you're sick of hearing about so they can all stop posting things you have no interest in as well?
I just don't understand the complaining. If you're not interested in it, ignore it. Plain and simple.
Now that sounds awesome.
@wisconsinista: waaah.
seriously, adding anything to one of my favorite games last year is good news, cant wait to see how this turns out.
a pitfall remake? =D
All of this great Sony news has made my god awful week beter. Home is really looking to be freakin sweet.
@wisconsinista: Why so serious? Unless I'm mistaken, this is a free service which is both option and non-nuclear. The worse thing that can happen from downloading this service is strained eyesight. There isn't even a measurable chance of picking up electronic gonorrhea (the silent killer).
On the other hand, this only sounds MILDLY entertaining. Call me when you figure out how to get my earthly avatar roaming through those environments without being ruthlessly murdered, Sony.
Looks like Sony is finally putting up a true fight.
@DARTH_TIGRIS: Sony has stated over and over again that Home will be free.
I don't understand, why is this exciting? You can walk around levels of games you've played through or play a 2d mini game that's like Contra or Bionic Commando 2d( both of which have had recent titles and I would be VERY surprised if this game was as good as either)? Now I have nothing against the PS3 but lately Kotaku editors seem to really be giving it more praise than some things deserve, for example yesterday it was "not bad, not bad at all" that the -MGS- PS3 bundle could play -MGS-3 with just some massive slowdown and today we're making a big deal about some 2d mini game. Yes I know everyone's getting the pitchforks out right now but I'm honestly not some fanboy, just an observer.
I don't know about "really, really cool"
But very interesting nonetheless.
Disappointing...
Prove to me, Sony, how trophies will work in Home when people can easily download gamesaves and have all of the "medals" in Uncharted unlocked.
This is also really cool, along with all the other ones... BUT PLEASE SONY, give me home.
@Barbara: yes! best game ever. that's why i got uncharted, it looks a lot like a 3d flashback (to me)
@Sparx:
damn you beat me to it
adding, am also crossing fingers for MG4 and LBP content...
