Sure, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Resistance: Fall of Man may have wicked cool feature sets for PlayStation 3's Home, but it's actually Warhawk's planned game portal that has us most excited. According to our sources, the Home lobby for the Incognito dogfighter will serve as a "war room" where up to eight players can meet to discuss their strategy for an upcoming match.
Sure, you could do that with text or voice chat, but it sounds like the developers have gone the extra mile to make planning your battles even cooler.
Using a three-dimensional "sand table" replication of the level, Warhawk players are said to be able to lay out their strategies in a properly scaled space. They'll even be able to place little army men avatars around the map to envision their formations, something we hope they can also do with teeny tiny Warhawk planes, tanks and Jeeps.
The Warhawk war room is said to also serve as a launchpad for games, thankfully, so jumping into a match shouldn't require leaving the Home interface.
This is one of the coolest additions, in my personal opinion, to come to Home and the kind of thing that we hope is replicated and improved upon by other developers for their team-based titles.

AWESOME!
Best one yet. I love you, Sony. Thank you for making Home what it needed to be. Original and innovative.
Wow. Just wow.
OMG, i called it in the other news topic. HOME potential is great ^_^
so is Warhawk any good? I have a PS3 I hardly ever play and this title is interesting but... I just can't dig FPS games on consoles.
I don't have a PS3, but I think that is very cool......
WOW.
I need me some Warhawk.
SWEET! The news just keeps getting better.
@jun581: I saw that!
RFOM was my crack, but Warhawk has taken the top spot. Can't wait for RFOM: 2 though.
Wow, that is a truly fantastic sounding feature. I can't tell you how much frustration is caused jumping into games where everyone is just off doing their own thing, not capturing control points, not going after flags, etc.
It will be really nice to be able to jump into this room and be able to plan out a strategy of sorts. I'll have to agree with Mr. McWhertor: This is truly, in my opinion, the best of all 3 Home features released today. Bravo Sony, you've made me even more interested in Home.
Success!
Beats the shit out of the swish of the menus on my 360.
so basically:
dropship, go there
APC, go there (new vehicle)
Tanks, go there
Jeeps, go there
Warhawks, KILL!!
it would be cool to stratagize before matches. some people are so damn stupid... you almost need to tell them what to do.
i'll post a pic of APC soon..
thats is the most amazing idea i've seen for home by far. but why only 8 people?
@Mahale: well, if you dont dig em on that format (im guessing controls?) i cant say it'll set you on fire or anything, but the balance of ground/air combat really works for it, its a shame htere's no demo. limited levels but its pretty fun for what it is.
also, this is a pretty cool add-on, i cant wait to see papabear and some other kotakuites reactions here.
@Sparx: What that guy said!
This sounds awesome. I wasn't planning on giving Home anything more than a passing glance, but these features keep getting better and better. It seems there will be something for everyone in Home.
@Mahale:
Warhawk remains my favourite multiplayer experience so far this generation. It's different, and amazingly fun.
@Mahale: Warhawk is a third person shooter and is insanely fun with a very small learning curve. Its basically the new Battlefield 1942.
@Mahale: Well its a third person shooter, not an FPS, and its main focus is the flight mechanic, which works great. I really enjoy Warhawk, although Call of Duty 4 knocked it off my playlist. Let's see some integration for that.
@Michael McWhertor: now if only my prediction about Uncharted with the mini-games come true. If so, i'm opening up a videogames psychic hotline
Crazy... Sony is hitting some homeruns this week.
A War room,now that sounds damn fun! cant wait to annoy friends by quoting lines from Dr Stranglove
Sounds interesting, but does anyone ever use features like this. Most people don't even use a headset in Warhawk.
Now THIS gets my nerd urges going.
Damn <3
The first two posts I was kinda "meh" about.
But a Warhawk war room? ... that is cool.
Can I get a FUCK YEA!
Awesome news. This takes social integration to a much higher level than XBL in my opinion. To have an actual environment that matches the environment of the game is pretty damn cool. Whenever Home comes out it's proving that it's worth the wait.
People will always complain though, even if in-game XMB shows up, the hordes will complain about something else it's missing. Rinse and repeat
APC PIC!!

forget all these announcements and start bringing those features, dammit!!!!
@dethFLUX:
I'm sure they'll add more once Home gets more stabilized. There will be a lot of traffic the first few weeks so people can try things out and suggest improvements. Then once the traffic dies down to a more steady pace they'll update little things like that.
a war room like that is one of the best ideas ive ever heard. ill have to try to figure out how to communicate that i want to carry the enemy flag back to our base by standing on a slow-flying plane....
Are you going to put up a "How _____ makes Home really cool" article for every game Home has features for? If so, the news page is going to be flooded with these.
I cannot deny, however, that said features are fricking awesome.
Ambitious! Awesomely ambitious!
I'm very skeptical of the awesome. -.-
Okay, Sony has me excited now.
@Mahale: Warhawk is easily one of the best console FPS experiences I've ever had.
These announcements are awesome. Too bad I don't have Warhawk. Hope those that do have fun with it though!
i want to know how little big planet will make home cool... i want to walk around looking like a sock puppet.
i hope there's also some good home stuff for mgs4... just imagine... well actually, i cant' think of anything cool, but i'm sure they can.
wow, I am very impressed. If they keep this level of quality for other games home should be extremely promising
Eh, is it just me or is my avatar making a big mess for some reason? :(
Seems contrary to the concept of the game. You don't plan out a pattern of attack in multilayer shooters, you jump in and play. Besides, five minutes into the game, any sort of plan would be completely obsolete. You need to react in real time.
It's a pretty cool move by devs, but it seems kind of desperate. Like Sony ordered them to make something having to do with home and they had to slap this together.
I'm seeing a pattern here.
Virtual war planning?? Yes I am there.
If we start using terms like Opfor and force multipliers,then my pregnant gf is gonna see me outside the delivery room with my PS3 and the hospital tv hooked up laying out brilliant war strategeries..
mission accomplished!
This is nearly too much on the good news department. Home has been delayed for so long, and I guess they are now showing reasons why. I can only imagine later games features and actually has me excited as what they'll come up with as little fun benefits.
Im sorry for Kotaku when the Sony Ninja's get you in your sleep
Remember no fighting in the war room.
@icepick314: I think I'd rather them taking as much time as it takes to make it perfect, instead of rushing it out. I've been enjoying my PS3 and two of these great games without Home, I'm sure I can survive a few weeks without the extra goodness.
@Nexus6:
A pattern of AWESOME?
Not really moonshadow. If you can have one "commander" in home giving orders to his entire team of 10-20 people on what to do and the enemies probable positions during the game it's plenty useful. Warhawk is a team game that's one of the reasons it comes with a you know. Mic.
Wow. That's pretty awesome. Whenever you're ready sony, we've been waiting for it for a while ^_^
Oh my damn that is awesome! Might actually get me to start playing again. I stopped cause i thought the expansion was a ripoff.
