Let me pose a hypothetical situation. Say that Street Fighter IV were to be ported to home console. I know, I know! Wild stuff, but stay with me. If, in the odd chance that Capcom were to approve such a product, which they officially haven't yet, it could arrive with a stable of new fighters not seen in the arcade release. That's one nearly unbelievable future for Street Fighter IV, says the game's producer Yoshinori Ono in a new Wired Game|Life interview.
Ono tells Chris "Chun-Li Lighting Leg Spam" Kohler that SFIV home ports could see appearances from Sakura from Street Fighter Alpha or Ibuki from Street Fighter III, for example, and that the team is listening to fan requests with regard to the character roster.
According to the piece, sounds like Ono is taking the perception that Street Fighter III was limited to an "exclusive club" of fighting fans seriously.

So the Wii version could have an unbalanced Link cameo?
Hmmm...Any character from the Street Fighter series available in Street Fighter 4?
I want Sheng Long!
I know.... lets put star wars charcters in it... everyone likes star wars
Of cours we will see more characters for the console ports, along with 10 different game versions ;P
heh kidding aside I do hope they make them DLC
Instead of Star Wars characters, SFIV will boast various characters from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle series.
This game is number two on my list this year (number one is Fallout 3, of course) and extra characters is just more icing on the cake. I do hope they're more classic characters though, and not generic trash like that Abel fellow we saw last time.
I may just be really gullible, but I thought a Street Fighter 4 for consoles was already announced?
Well, since I won't be able to play this in the arcade due to its likely INSANE rarity in the US, I'll hold out for these console ports.
...provided Akuma's in them, that is.
Just curious...does anyone even care about Tekken 6 after seeing how awesome Street Fighter 4 is looking? Tekken is in real need of a revamp, is getting too samey for its own good...
I'm still skeptical about SF4, but this news is great. If Sakura and Makoto makes into the console ports, it would be great. Would kinda resemble when SF Zero 3 was released for the PSOne with the extra characters and extra modes.
@: Naw, my money is on Mario kicking some major buttocks against Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Lee.
I'm all for console exclusives, but console specific exclusives is a horrible trend that needs to die a painful death already. I certainly hope they don't take the Soul Calibur route with this.
Master Chief in the 360 version.
I used to be into SF pretty heavily, but once Soul Calibur came out, I was converted. My problem with SF4 is that it really seems to me like an old fighting game with new graphics. (Well that could be said for basically every fighting game to come out for the last few years)
Additional characters are always welcome, but I'm certainly not wowed quite yet.
@deathsyth8888:
Captain Falcon vs. Ken. Battle of the century.
One hopes that, if this is true, some beta balance testing is throughly undertaken beforehand.
Hold It! We need Phoenix Wright in this game!
@deathsyth8888: I counter your counter with Zack and Wiki. Kicks would be punches in the shins from Zack, and punches would be attacks from Wiki, hovering over Zack's head. They wouldn't even need to futz with the art style.
Can someone buy Zangief some pants
Just to add fuel to the fire... there's a poll up on our Capcom blog where you can vote for the characters you'd like to see in SFIV...
[blog.capcom.com]
Since this is the Interwebs, a disclaimer is probably needed:
Please note that this poll is not binding, in way hints at anything at all, does not confirm that there will be differing versions, and in fact doesn't even confirm that there will be any console versions. ^_^
Kratos for PS3?
I hope the cameos are JUST Street Fighter characters.
Star Wars already made me cancel my SC IV preorder.
I'd love to see Elena and Ibuki from SF3 make an appearance. Sakura from SFA Alpha would be awesome as well.
Where's Cammy?
Well if it's following the SF II story line, why not just add M Bison, Vega, Sagat, and Balrog? Then Cammy, Deejay, Fei Long and T-Hawk.
I know I know, they'll be saved for Super Street Fighter IV Hyper Turbo Edition!
Sweet news nontheless
@TheCleaningGuy: Yea, because the game is going to force you to play with the Star Wars characters and be part of the canon as well. *rolls eyes*
@zany_ninja: O.o...Street fighter iv looks aight.. but it aint even in the same league as tekken if you think so your living in your own world. Doesn't compare char wise, action wise or even graphic wise.
Now if you were comparing like SF to like Kof of something maybe thats a better comparison. As for me SF iv looks ok.. defiantly not on my most wanted list in comparison to tekken or soul calibur but its defiantly on the hope to try it list. Hope i can find an arcade that has it once its out.
Is Tranny Cammy confirmed for SF4? That's the main thinking affecting my purchase.
Ryu's heels look like fat hockey pucks >_>
And isn't the main tournament version of this game supposed to be the arcade version? It seems like you should put extra characters in the arcade version, or make them all have the same characters. It's Street Fighter IV, which they want to be the next SFII. People aren't going to be happy when they get really good with a character that isn't available in a tournament they want to enter.
I want Rolento in there... Does that make me a freak?
@TheCleaningGuy: Dude what?. You don't have to pick those characters you know.
On top of that, Yoda in a full fledged fight?, sign me up.
If they'll take the time to model and animate new characters then they definately have time to perform any gameplay tweaks / fix glitches that might go un-noticed in testing and are present in the arcade version.
There could be plenty of new modes added for the console version as well. Unlockables such as artwork, stage music (classic SF2 music), event modes (win match using only special moves for example), even a break the car mode where you can choose the model of vehicle you want to destroy! (All fictional of course, don't want to get sued by GM, Honda, Mercedes, etc.)
@myDingling: When did Cammy become a Tranny?
I thought Poison was the only transsexual in any fighting game, ever.
@Kirbytheslayer: In-Kirby XMB: But to unlock him, you have to beat the game as Ryu without getting hit.
As I've posted in every SF4 post since the game was announced: Sakura.
It's good to know she's still being considered :)
Sakura and her panties, please. Or Sakura without her panties!
Ibuki ftw.
Just make sure Cammy is in.
Woah..all this talk about street fighter4 I thought it was coming to the consoles...you mean it's not?...what street fighter is coming to the consolles?
@durrem: Objection! Payne. We need Payne.
they better add more characters. this isnt the early 90's an 8 character roster is pitifull. especially if they charge for it as a full game.
Solid Snake is da gaming bitch now. Put him.
SCORPION FOR THE 360. NOW. MIDWAY, LET IT HAPPEN.
It's official this is now officially the coolest news day Kotaku has ever had...EVER!!!
ok seriously, who is voting for dudley on that capcom blog? how he is tied with sakura is beyond me
@Jest: @Fyren: I'm not picking them.
But a lot of people are, and online play is important. It's really Yoda that pisses me off, he's going to make half of Nightmare's horizontals useless, and I don't even want to think about Astaroth.
I just want a balanced fighter, and the extra characters are going to stick out like meat grinder in a pet store.
Well, theres always the arcades, I suppose.
@TheCleaningGuy: Oh, so you already know that they'll be available for online matches. Do cite me the source of your knowledge.
As long as Cammy and Rose make the cut one way or another Id be happy. Also throw in Remmy :)
How about downloadable attacks or combos that can be added to existing characters? I mean, if we're talking expansion here, why not make it so that you can start loading different abilities into your fighter?
To make it more balanced, you can select which moves you want your character to be capable of, make that number finite, so that it isn't a matter of who owns all the moves, but rather who has armed themselves with the best array of moves that they're good with.
It's a crazy idea that has a few problems, but after all of the attack personalization that I've seen recently in Mass Effect and Bioshock, I think purchasing new abilities or weapons could be a new avenue to explore with DLC.
@Jest: Wow, creative young man we have here.
My fountain of knowledge is known as common sense.
Name an online fighting game where you can't use characters coded into the game.
Soul Calibur IV will have online play.
Case in point.
Okay, this might have slipped past by me, so forgive me if I'm making a fool of myself...

DID ANYBODY NOTICE THEY'RE SHOWING A BRAND NEW LEVEL?
@Ashurahori:
That level was in the character-specific videos on IGN from GDC, but good find for the people who hadn't seen that yet.
@TheCleaningGuy: Tekken DR: Only tourney legal characters are allowed for selection online.
