In addition to announcing a ship date and hardware bundle for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, SCEA today revealed that a beta for the game's online component will happen before the June release. Metal Gear Online, as you may be aware, will be a separate release from the single player experience, but Metal Gear Solid 4 will come with a "starter pack" that will give gamers a taste of what to expect from the full version.
The multiplayer beta test for Metal Gear Online will kick off in April for those who pre-order the game. Run, do not walk, to your local retailer and bring a fiver with you.

I have to admit, I'm a bit skeptical about the online version. However, since I'm sure I'll buy MGS4 anyway, I might as well reserve it ... the beta could totally blow me away. Actually, I wouldn't mind that happening :D

If it's anything like MGS3 online, it will be great. MGS3 online actually ran better than the single player game somehow. Zero lag or drops in frame rate.

Well, the recent announcements today were referred to as "North American" launches, so they could be referring to the Beta as "north america" as well.
The open question is, how do we get into the beta? How do we prove/how does Sony/Konami know we pre-order?
I hope they announce Amazon.com as a valid partner in this deal.
Besides, it's not like we're getting first crack at MGO, Japan did a couple months back, didn't they?

I think the retailers will be giving out beta codes at some point. Unsure as to how that'll work tho, and I could be totally wrong.
