Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, whatever. They're sideshows. Distractions. No, for Sony, the year's biggest game on the PS3 might just be LittleBigPlanet, with an SCEE rep saying it's "potentially our biggest Blu-ray release of 2008". That announcement was partly to let us know Sony are just psyched about the game, but also to say they're a lot more psyched about it than they were about those good-for-nothing PSN games. "This isn't a Warhawk or a Tekken: Dark Resurrection. This is a triple-A Blu-ray title". There there, Warhawk. I'm sure he didn't mean to be so...mean.

That's a kick ass picture.
And it's a kick ass game...I'm still not sure If I should get a PS3 though...
I am really looking forward to this game.I mean who isn't?
not being downloadable is a good thing?
Well, there are a lot of big titles this yeat, but LittleBigPlanet (oneword) looks pretty damn good.
Hopefully, we get a demo soon.
Is Killzone 2 actually supposed to make it out this year?
Little Big Planet looks awesome....but I don't know man, Resistance 2 looks more and more impressive everytime I look at it...
Although when it comes to 'staying power,' I imagine that Little Big Planet can hang with the big boys.
@Spartan1308: yes, it is.
Now, I am looking forward to LittleBigPlanet probably more than the normal person. I want it bad. REAL bad.
But disparaging Warhawk like that... Mr. SCEE rep, you've gone too far. You speak blasphemy, and you will be made repentant for it.
What he meant was Warhawk is a AA game and LBP is a AAA game.
I'm not being serious right now.
maybe i don't get it, but, biggest title of 2008?
Excited for it, but don't besmirch Warhawk. Warhawk is still the second best game on PS3 (behind Uncharted).
@Aflack: Likes slushies: So was Tekken just an...A game? Nope. More of a C-...
Well if you can't tell by my username, LBP is the title I'm most excited about this year. The sad thing is, I don't own a PS3 yet! I think when LBP comes out I'll likely get one though. I'm waiting for a price drop, and/or whatever new SKU sony is coming out with.
Hey now, a home version of Dark Resurrection is what pushed me from considering buying a PS3 to owning one! Well, that and them taking backwards compatibility away soon following...
I have no doubt that LBP will be a great game. I mean, I wish we had it (or at least a demo, or something!) much sooner, but the level editor looks nothing short of amazing and so long as the community is active, I could see it being fun for a very long time.
Biggest game? No... Most important game? Definitely. For the simple fact that it will show weather a game like that can be successful on the PS3, and it will also show sonys commitment to online and player creation.
Also a game that many hardcore fans are dieing to get their hands on... I can't wait to see the freedom people can use to come up with some insane stuff. This is the game I am most looking forward to once I get around to buying a PS3.
this is gonna be the biggest game of 2008 for Sony cant wait
@Aflack: Likes slushies:
I was gonna say!
Shoot, since when are there even single A titles, I don't think I've ever heard that, only 'Triple A'
@NOKS415: Any idea on when? They haven't even announced a time frame for the public Beta yet and they said there would be one.
its kinda like a while ago how ms said that viva pinata was their most important title and then blew it. well sony is saying that they wont blow it. its a pivotal title if they play their cards right, and they want to make it that way. easy the game that could swing the most games this gen (other than wii sports, but who saw that coming?)
For all the doubters, go on the Playstation site and watch the trailers. Brought tears to my eyes. Now if only they could add that "tank" PSEye functionality in the game to add more tools, it would be the most impressive, cool, fun and advanced game ever.
sony is a great hype machine. i think they're hoping it will become a self-fulfilling-prophecy i.e. if they tell us it will be the biggest game enough we'll believe it, buy it, and it will become the biggest game.
@Scazza: Wow. I actually think it's their biggest game: I've been here for a while, and this is the first article where you are not bashing the PS3.
@Luke Plunkett: I haven't played a Tekken since the PS1. :D It wouldn't make what he said any less true.
"This isn't a AA or a C- game. This is a triple-A Blu-ray title".
I'm still not being serious. It's not a good idea to speak ill of your own games. Especially not Warhawk which my friends and I really like.
By the way, that Sony rep wasn't bashing Warhawk. They were referring to the fact that Tekken, and Warhawk were mostly recognized as being a downloadable (digital) game, but LBP is going to be a Blu-ray release, and quite a huge one. Remember Warhawk was originally just going to be digital with no retail version so that's the main reason he's included it in that comparison.
That's the most logical explanation for the mention of those two games, but if you have a better one let me know
@diodegrey: Yeah, but besides Lair, I don't see a game published and hype by Sony Entertainment that wasn't a 8 and up. Plus, many mags, sites and blogs (even Kotaku) previewed LBP and it seems the game is living up its hype. With the physics, the graphics and the 4 player co-op only, this game is easily up there with Mario, if not higher. Add user-created content with that and you have a unique gem.
You better market it like it is, Sony.
damn straight, LBP is the reason I was able to convince my wife to let me get a PS3...I found something she will play.

@Aflack: Likes slushies: Maybe he was talking in terms of sales, although I think Warhawk was pretty decent. I tried to buy it twice and each time it was sold out and I had to buy something else.
@slomo788: Scazza has pretty moderate views of the PS3. He's definitely not as bad as some others, but Kotaku in general has great commentors.
LittleBigPlanet pushed me to get a PS3 last year before the 60 GB went extinct, so this, GT5, GTA4, and MGS4 are the biggies I'm waiting for.
BLU RAY GUYS, HEY EVERYONE, PS3 GAMES ARE ON BLU RAY DISCS, BLU RAYS, DISC! BLU RAYS GUYS, GUYS, BLU RAYS!
That's just the sort of impression I got.
Maybe the circumstances will be different in Japan, but I doubt Little Big Planet will be comparable to MGS4 in the states. Despite its casual friendly nature, it is a game that only gamers know about right now, and it will be on a system who's only big casual market is the tech junkies who wanted a blu-ray player.
I think it looks crazy fun, but I just don't see it being anything amazing in the States.
Sadly I am concerned about LBP's success. We all know about this game and are excited for it, but we're not the typical consumer. Does the average consumer who buys games at Best Buy know about this game yet? Maybe they read about it in a little piece in their EGM magazine, but I really don't think there's a huge demand for this title yet.
Sony needs to hype the hell out of this. Make nationally aired commercials about it. If they don't it simply won't sell as well as we'd like it to.
More than any other game, LBP relies on having a large userbase.
@NOKS415: Me
As far as I'm concerned Warhawk is close to being the best game on the console and I've been playing it since release. I can't believe an employee of Sony would say such a thing about such a great exclusive.
Incognito has every right to feel offended by that remark.
@Kj719: Lol I was just busting his balls, but in general he is pretty bitter about any PS3 news.
I hope he's right, I can't wait to find out firsthand!
I don't even own a PS3, but LittleBigPlanet is one game that really has my interest.
I'm excited, been hyping this one up (which is rare for a Sony game for me) since Edge did a feature on it before it had its name.
I for one am looking forward to this more than MGS4 and Killzone 2.
I have almost zero interest in this game. It's Mario, with much better physics, and great tools for user-generated content. That's all good. But it lacks conflict (I've never seen a single enemy), though I understand it's not that kind of game. It's a non-game. It just seems akin to Home where I'd get bored of it quickly. Yes, I've seen the trailers. It's an improved do-it-yourself Mario without enemies.
@Nikuma:
Read this: LittleBigPlaneteer
@madman83: That is an impossibility, so I am going to assume you're joking.
Hahahah.... good one.
@LittleBigPlaneteer: I know right? I have a friend who just bought a 40 GB and another one in the same situation as you (waiting for the next SKU) and they had no clue of LBP until I showed them. And it's not that hard either. The graphics are amazing, the colors are vibrant and even the song is catchy (my friends themselves pointed that out to me). Sony could easily touch that market Nintendo touched with the Wii (kids and girls mainly) with that game, if they advertise it right. It would be very unfair to the devs and the PS3 if that game was underrated due to poor advertisement. The only game I'm more hyped for besides LPB is GTA4. Then come MGS4 and finally Killzone 2.
I'm more looking forward to Resistance 2, but Little Big Planet should be good as well!
@Xiedo:
Not that it lacks conflict (enemies and "death" were shown months ago, since you missed it), but not every game needs to be centered around violence. Even if it lacked such a thing, LBP would be a great title.
@Xiedo: Exactly, and just like Mario, I think it's easy to find it boring until the controller is in your hands.
@Xiedo: Evertime someone says they don't like this game it's because of something that is infact in the game.
"You should be able to die" You can.
"They should have enemies" They do.
Learn about the game before you decide you won't like it. It's not even released and you already know you won't like it?
@slomo788: If you read my history you will know that although I don't hide my "hate" for sony (not the PS3), I am pretty stable when it comes to the subject. I happen to look forward to owning one. Being a recent HDTV purchaser and soon looking to get into the HD movie format, and also with the major turn around sony has done in the past 3 months, I cannot wait to get one. Plus before the xbox, I was a pretty admirable PS/PS2 fan.
As for what game I believe the biggest to be, well, thats complex. If you ask a hardcore gamer, most will tell u that LBP is their big game. But everyone seems to forget that hardcore makes up a VERY tiny minority of the gamer populace. Just look at Madden and GTA sales to see that. So biggest game this year couldn't be LBP, for the simple fact that joe-nobody knows jack all about the game, they dont watch GDC or E3 news.
Its easily going to be one of maybe 3 games:
GTA
MGS4
or Killzone.
With possibly FFXIII or White Knight if they hit this year.
I would hazard a guess that games like Madden etc will sell more then LBP. But if you read my original comment, I said that it will be an IMPORTANT game, even if its not the biggest in terms of popularity or sales...
Wow look at the quality on his face!
@LittleBigPlaneteer: So I guess no one has actually mentioned to the rep that you can buy a blu-ray version of Warhawk? Whatever his/her reasons for mak
