After my chat with LEGO's Mark Hanson the other day about the upcoming LEGO Universe MMO, I was promised some concept art. Well the big day has arrived and I awoke this morning to find two nice little images in my mailbox. The email described them as being related to one of the first zones that players will encounter upon starting the game. Not much more info than that but there you have it. Make the jump to check out another shot!

Hmmm. There seems to be legos missing in the lego universe.
you know, this game might not be that bad, but i wonder what the gameplay will be like.
Awww....they're adorable.
@lonkley: Not all lego pieces were blocky. For the larger stuff like buildings, they'd often give you a one-piece model that was rounded, etc. It's the details like the gateway up there that're the lego bits you actually construct.
I prefer more LEGO in my LEGO MMO.
@Pombar: Even those larger pieces had the feeling of lego though.. but I think we are being too critical of these two pieces of art, afterall, they are hand-drawn art pieces that aren't going to feel legoey.
Okay but...where are the lego ewoks?
OT but, I'm expecting the following to appear on Kotaku soon (though it might have been mentioned before)
MGS4 has a release date of 12/06/2008 (that's 12th of June 2008)
Apparently this info comes from an advert in Famitsu that was posted to the Something Awful forums

Shouldn't the concept art for a LEGO game just be photos of stuff they built with LEGO Bricks?
It would be pretty cool if you could build your own things in the world...
Like your house and car etc.
@lonkley: It could be that legos are used only in man-made stuff, which could be interesting.
I will be prompt in ganking all your 4x4 cubes.
I would hope that the final product does have more of a lego-y feel to it, though. I mean, I would hate to see a Lego game without a Lego atmosphere. But like what others are saying, I think we should take these two pieces of what they are: concept art.
@Maldron: Yeah, but then half of the buldings would be gigantic LEGO phalluses.
@blackadvent: That's as if to say that real-world buildings aren't?
The LEGO look really out of place in these pics.
I see a WHOLE lot of stuff going on, very little of it LEGO...
@PanStre: Even if it's true, it may just be Japan.
Looks pretty...
The Japanese-style buildings are nice too, they from the Ninja set?
@Spartan1308: thought MGS4 had an international release date. Or within a few days of each other.
@ninja_squirrel: How can you say that after looking at two pieces of concept art? We still know next to nothing about the game.
They're going to have a pretty hard time topping Blockland.

@yourenzyme: Not like MGS4 has anything to do with the Lego MMO though.
Actually,Yourenzyme,
SPOILER WARNING
This Lego game IS Metal Gear Solid 4. They're trying to appeal to a younger/more casual demographic.
@kidnicky: Kojima is always full of suprises :)
What? It's not all made out of Legos? Damn it!
Really awful designs!
It's C O N C E P T art. Expect those trees to be in Lego form later on, QQ less.
A Lego MMO? =O Thats wiggity wiggity wack.
I so wanna play it. :]
@mowh: Yeah! Just like the trees in Lego Star Wars, right?

@PanStre: As of yesterday. This rumor has been debunked by Sp0rsk, an admin on neogaf. Who has the latest issue of Famitsu and find out that that rumor was false.
Now THAT is a way to disappear into your childhood.
I rather like the idea of standard Lego men interacting in a lush, detailed environment. It looks great; I don't see what there is to object to in these drawings.
Do you expect them to make entire landscapes out of lego blocks? Lego has never been about environments, that was part of its appeal: you could construct an Imperial walker and have it exist perfectly well in the context of your room, without needing a giant Endor playset for it to be enjoyable. The rest could be filled in with your imagination, which is exactly what this concept artist has done here.
@kidnicky: That's weird, I've just been messing about with a Lego figure of mine who looks an awful lot like Solid Snake...

Anyone else thing Lego Gear Solid would be an awesome game? Friggin' hilarious AND fun as they come.
@jeffg:
Damn, got me there!
Wow not what I was expecting AT ALL. Wheres the Lego? I think someones project may be a little of the rails here.
@Sabre_Justice: Okay, no more long name.: I want Lego Gear Solid, and my own personal nuclear powered Lego Gear.
Hmm...Deku Tree!!!
lincoln logs/legos SAME THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
