Patapon releases next week and having had the privilege of checking it out over the last couple of days, I can tell you it's a really great game. The art style alone is enough to send an artsy guy like me into the stratosphere. If you haven't yet checked out any of the media surrounding this games, be sure to check out this trailer to see what you've been missing. Loco-Roco fans will take to this like a second coming. Great stuff.

I adore this game!
I wish I had real patapons. So I can collect - new - patapons - and then show you thems.
I weep with joy. Patapon...
Pata Pata Pata Pon, the thing sticks in your head, its terribly catchy.
I hope it does great, more games like this are needed.
amazing! :D
Don't know. All this does is make me weep for the loss of samurai jack...
Man, I'm so ready for the full game! I've been playing the demo nonstop. Between Beats, Patapon, and GOW: CoO, it's time to look at my PSP as a gaming machine again. I guess I'd better go finish up GTA: VCS, too...
Wow, that's great! First thing to make me wish I had a PSP.
@ GoldenGotGame: You forgot Crisis Core!
Personally, this is the kind of game I'd prefer to play as DLC on the PS3. Gaming in public makes me nervous enough - let alone having this soundtrack piped through the speakers.
@StupidityTries:
headphones <3
Fun, fun, catchy game this is. It makes me worry for my buttons, though.
For $20 though, I think all PSP owners should pick it up.
I hope they release it on the PS3. Hi-def-pon goodness sounds awesome.
I thought this game was already out since it got game of the month in the new EGM
@sUKi:
Yeah, I know - but the "public gaming with headphones" thing just makes me feel that much more uncomfortable.
Cheers to self-confidence issues!
Pon-Pon-Pata-Pon!
The demo was amazing and I can't wait until Tuesday.
@StupidityTries: This is one of those games (just like Silent Hill Origins) where the experience is a lot more pleasant with the headphones on. The aural sound you get by plugging in the headphone is much better, allowing you to be more accurate with your drum rhythm.
In the Uk the game's out already, bought it this morning and playing it.
I killed a dragon!
No one can stop the Patapons!
I'm considering the Patapons as a tattoo on my calf...
Pata Pata Chaka!
I already have it as I live in the UK.
It's awesome, and everyone needs to buy it.
cant wait for this game, definatley one for fans of katamari and elite beat agents i think.
The art style is extremely similar to the cartoon samurai jack. The bosses especially look a lot of those from the cartoon. Not that it's a bad thing.
Please do not use the Patapon Chants to resolve droughts in your neighborhood.
Yeah when I saw the Japanese commercial of this game around December, with the women playing it and making chants, I was hooked. I will pick up my copy sometime this week or next week.
I've been playing the full game for about a week now, and it's been great. My roommate is annoyed for constantly hearing the pata's, pon's and chaka's that emit from the PSP.
For $20, it really is a great buy.
Costs the equivalent of $40 in the UK (some shops are charging $50!), but actually worth every penny. Been playing it since Wednesday (naughty game seller, posting early - tsk tsk tsk.....).
i really like the art for this, and the music is annoyingly great, but im having a hard time imagining the game actually being fun. still, i cant wait to try it.
Hope to pick this up soon. The demo is fun. Nice to see people enjoying the game!
Pata-Pata-Pata-Pon will be Bloody Monday's official chant.
Im considering picking up a PSP for this game and a few others. Anyone know a place where I can get one for under the $170 list price? My wallet has taken an unexpected hit from all those Rock Band DLC.
This game is awesome. It really needs to become a downloadable title on the PlayStation Network after some time so that more people will have the chance to play.
This game is definitely worth the $20!
Let me show you my Patapons~! My Patapons let me show you them~!
Games like this make me glad that Sony stuck with the PSP. The thing has a wealth of excellent titles available right now and the fact that Patapon is only $20 is icing on the cake.
I'm hoping that the release of God of War alongside this doesn't ruin sales for the quirky title. I know I will be picking up both.
Wow.
I've actually gotten to a point where I honestly really want a PSP.
I can't view this...
Every so often every video from gametrailers just won't play for me. Even when I switch formats (quicktime, flash, wmp, download) it just doesn't work. And Gametrailers is the only site where this occurs =(
Anyways, Patapon is a great, innovative game. I was surprised at how complex it got with the armor customization.

Girlfriend made it for those with widescreen monitors.
I'm saving up to buy a PSP with Patapon for her parents, which recently lost their house and possessions in a fire. Her mother had talked about getting Patapon a lot, but her PSP was one of the casualties. They're troopers, though, and getting by, so don't worry.
PWN!
PWN!
PATA!
PWN!
Picked up a PSP just in time for this. The demo was awesome can't wait to get this game.
I'm serious when I say this is the only reason I want a PSP.
Been playing it since yesterday morning (when it came out here). It's just great. You have to do a ridiculous amount of grinding in order to secure yourself a safety net in battle (ie, making your people strong enough to survive two or three mistakes on your part, which would otherwise cripple your entire army), but it's fun. Grinding isn't such a chore in this game.
Besides, cooking up ultimate coloured Patapon is frickin' awesome.
JUST 4 MORE DAYS UNTIL IT'S IN STORES
I played the demo last night to completion and enjoyed the hell out of it. The demo is actually quite large relatively speaking, and can be had both in store with a pre-order and for free from the PS store I believe. Patapon is absolutely brilliant, and a must buy for any PSP owner. Did I mention its going to retail for only $19.99! I cant wait for the full ver!
People that say this should go to the PS3 or PSN frustrate me because one of the PSP's big problems is keeping titles exclusive. Everyone knows if this was ported to PS2/PSN/PS3 people would bitch and laugh at the PSP. Let's keep this exclusive to the PSP. If you want to play this, you buy the system.
Patapon is a lot deeper than it may seem to some and I think it will surprise many with the amount of strategy that you will use. I think some here think it's just a rhythm action game, but it's totally strategy/rpg
@LittleBigPlaneteer:
It's the same exact thing when the PS3 gets a nice game (MGS4, FF13) and retards say "this should have came out on 360/Wii instead".
Then they say things like "why should I get a PS3, all of its games are going onto 360 anyway".
Since I first heard about the game I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and a few days ago I played and beat the demo. I seriously need more Patapon. Problem is I don't have a PSP. Solution? My lady friend (it was her demo) is getting it day one :D.
Oh, and I now find myself humming "PATA-PATA-PATA-PON" when I walk.
my god this game is just like.. those games that sound really weeaboo but you just can't it out of your head xD I played the demo and omfg the FEVER mode was just a mofo to play on xD pluse with that bon bon song its even harder to get the beat right.
@ohhello:
Never heard many people say it should come to the Wii. 360, yeah I see that a lot, but Wii? I see people argue the opposite (Wii games on other consoles), bloggers on this site included.
Still, I agree that the PSP does need some sort of good exclusive.
AH it would seem this will be one of the few psp games i will have to actually grab a copy of, as opposed to..cough cough iso cough cough, because anyone or any developer as innovative as this truly deserves my money.
XD
@DrakeLake: I just want to thank you for the background wallpaper. It's awesome.
Sorry to hear about your GF's family. I hope they'll get through that incident.
I just had this crazy laugh when I finally go into battle with my army of 18 Patapons, all of which are colored. I love building up my army before going into battle.
i MUST own this game.
The art style of the Patapons is just too awesome...I might just be forced into getting a psp soon.
you know i would say this si the most awesome looking obscure game of late but theres tons of people who dont know about "the world ends with you" on the ds by the kingdom hearts guys.
I can't wait! Played the demo and enjoyed it very very much. You definitely need multi-tasking skills to play this game... which is something I am not good at.
Its a totally awesome game, that can become quite addictive. :D
Really love the art style.
Plus this trailer was real well done also.
@DrakeLake:
I was using those two games as an example.
So Uk got it early? great! Still i had to play 25 quid for this (fifty buck to you yanks) i hate these taxes.
p.s. Its FRICKING HARD!
@Prinnygeddon!: (Like) OMG I had the same idea except for my lower back and with some added patapon art work around it.
Now THAT'S a trailer.
Only a few more days before I go pick up my pre-order.
If you have any doubts about this game, you really should get the demo. If you are thinking of getting a PSP for this, do it. This game sets itself apart from the other rhythm games by allowing YOU to choose the rhythm. The game defines small segments that are commands, but you choose which commands to give.
As you play, as you succeed in keeping with the rhythm, the chants of the patapon back to you get more complex, and build like a real song. Just like in the video above. That song building up isn't some PR fluff, that's really from the game.
This game is all about subtle character. Everything has character. The Patapons look to you as a God to lead them, and they lose faith in you just as quickly which is hilarious.
Personally, the feature that took me be surprise as a strong gameplay element the most was the way the Patapon play back to you between each command. It's simple sure, but it gives an incredibly strong interactive element to the gameplay.
And on top of all of that, the game is a simplified real-time strategy game. You build an army out of multiple unit types, you built squads out of these units to take into actual battle. You collect materials to create new squad members. You play minigames to get some of the materials. You choose when to move forward, when to attack, when to defend, and more. You will collect armor and weapons to upgrade your patapon, and you will find a camaraderie amongst them as they express disdain at the odds while steeling themselves at your command.
This game deserves some kind of award for an achievement in interactivity while retaining a perfect blend of simplicity and sophistication. Please buy it so we can expect more out of this series!
Totally waiting for my copy to arrive in the post. the last demo that made me want to buy a game this much was Skate on the 360 (man I spent hours trying to perfect lines in that thing).
Must have gone through the demo at least 20-25 times already.
Hmmm could be a cheap and easy way to ween addicts of drugs.....
DS port can I have it?
Patapon and Kratos so close together. It's a great time to be a PSP owner!
Wow, I seem to be the only person who doesn't actually like the game!
@Anthropomancer: Yeah you are. You probably never played it either but pretend to not like it.
@Warik: it's created and published by Sony Computer Entertainment Japan.
