During Dave Jones' GDC session, essentially a reveal of Realtime Worlds' online game APB, he touted the game's character customization tools. After generating a handful of characters you certainly wouldn't want looking after your kids, he showed off APB's ability to recreate real-life characters. Namely, Jones showed digital versions of developers Shigeru Miyamoto, Peter Molyneux, Warren Spector and Richard Garriott that were made in the character editor.
While the above pic may not be of the best quality, we got a few individuals snaps that are much better looking. They're behind the jump, front page visitors, because I'm pretty sure that pic of a pants-less Miyamoto is not safe for work.
Seriously, man. Put some khakis on!

Wow, that's pretty impressive. They look very much like them, and I like the detail you can add in terms of attire, logos, etc..
That's awesome. I wonder how difficult it is to actually make a character design that exact though.
Wow!
It looks like Forza level customization will be possible in this.
Whoa. This adds a whole other layer to customizing. Looks even better than some of the home customizing I've seen. Yay... Time to have CS with people I don't like. Creating people that would look funny getting shot. Nevermind. Never wish anything bad on anybody, unless they're digital.
Incredible, and pretty risky too. Might get some copyright lawyers nervous
If the head is not big enough to be worthy of Giant Molyneux Face tags, it just is not good enough for me. :-p
Those are some sexy pants on Miyamoto
@Scazza:
Maaaaaan, why'd you have to bring that up :(
@Scazza: Since when are lawyers nervous? They are more like ninjas waiting in the night to due whatever their master wishes.
Holy cow that is spot on O_o makes you wonder if he's been practiceing or something.
An actual Counterstrike MMO would be interesting.
@ocalot: Man, that would make a good comic or movie... A Ninja lawyer, who upon losing a case, kills everyone in the courtroom, and fights illegal gambling on the side... Exciting...
Isn't an MMO-esque CS being worked on for the Asian market?
First Kotaku has an article about the dark side of Miyamoto. Then it shows how Miyamoto would look in a gang of other developers. Man, Miyamoto is a gangster to say the least.
I wonder wonder they didn't do an avatar of Mark Rein...
Texture size limitations?
@Scazza:
Yeah, i'm pretty sure I remember some lawyers from either DC or Marvel wanting a crack at City of Heroes awhile back.
Incredible? I dunno... I could make Keanu Reeves in the Godfather for the 360. But I'm glad people are finally recognizing that celebrities are the best way to promote your character customization features. :)
wow
Uhh, where's McWhertor? Not even Crecente? This "Dave Jones" guy is a total hack. I know who I'm recreating if I pick this game up!
Watch out for that car Miyamotto. You wouldn't be the first!
Now you can see why Miyamoto gets a hard-on for plumbers
Wow, that's impressive.
I wonder... If I created L. Ron Hubbard in APB, would the Church of Scientology come after me?
@Doshu: I think they gave up after the Gabe Newell avatar kept causing the dev kit to crash due to ram limitations...
(jokes)
@deathsyth8888:
Miyamoto is on some OG gangsta shit. Rollin' around in his tricked out Nintendo-mobile. Selling shrooms to kids all across the world.
@Scazza: Gabe Newell wanted to be rendered 100% realistically or not at all. Too bad... Wanted to see him in a game similar to one of his IPs... as Shooting Practice.
No Will Wright?
The new A-Team has arrived :P.
@Scazza: Err, might have been Gabe I was thinking of.
I feel bad that I only know who one of those people are.
@BPM IIDX 8th style: Probably, if they ever got wind of it. They sue virtually anyone though.
Thats awesome. This game keeps looking better and better.
Did they say if this is PC only?
Question is: can the customization tools handle Phil Spector's crazy 'do ? C'mon, Dave Jones, show us what you got!
This is probably one of the best ideas I've ever heard. I really never understood why every MMO out there was an rpg, and required insane amounts of boring ass grinding to get anything done. I fucking hate grinding! This game seems like it won't have any of that, and will be a hell of a lot more fun to play. I've never liked games where I have to level up my character and go on quests or kill enemies over and over again, hoping that this time I find the drop I'm looking for. An action based MMO that is easy and fun to pick up and play. If anything can put a dent in WoWs player base (and nothing can), this will be it.
@rudyism: Yup, Marvel, over the Wolverine-style claws.
@gamadaya:
Words. Out of my mouth. Agree. Stuff. I'm in.
@WoodyNvincible:
Except this game isn't a true MMO, I just found out. It's more like how Guild Wars does it. I'm not in just yet, but I'm cautiously optimistic.
@gamadaya:
you should play Myst Online. Oh right, it was cancelled because not enough people were interested in a MMO adventure game...
Me bitter? noooo never...
Look for Abe Lincoln and Hulk Hogan to be kicking your ass in the near future
@gamadaya: Money is that reason.Action fans are very capricious. The next hot thing will come and they abandon the old hot thing. RPG fans are about building a guild and becoming an Overlord of the Elves or whatever.They are more dedicated.So that equals more money.
Guild-war esque MMO fails. Its not an MMO, just a giant playground for PvP.
I just hate having lobbies with *set* number of parties zoning.
The game feels like a gloried Gamespy lobby.
However, the customization has been anted up. Much improvement since the "City of..." series.
Miyamoto - I find your lack of pants disturbing.
Also, unless I missed something, there's 3 articles about this game today and not one of them mentions which system it's being released on. I'm assuming PC only.
@J-Fro:
IGN says its also for the 360, which isnt really surprising, it only makes sense
@J-Fro: I know, I've been wondering about that as well. Although on IGN, they're saying 360 and PC only.
Shiggy hide your shame!

Best character customization ever I must say.
Although Im a bit sad we dont see some rambo looking Reggie up there with them.
This is looking like one hell of a game. JT will have a ball with this....
@Jesus Christ: Just imagine how many variations of JT will be running around in the game itself.
mwahaha. Looks like Miyamoto. Do want this game just for the character customization ;3
@Witzbold: Lol, and just imagine how many of them will be getting killed just cause they look like him.
Me, I'm not into this kinda stuff myself, the online and all, but I think that someone up there said it, if I was going to play this, I'd probably make the Hulkster, brother.
"The School of Silicon Valley"
Miyamoto will stomp you to death. with boxors.
This game looks pretty kick ass, and I loved crackdown, I'm sure the team can do another great game.
*dreaming of themed APB clans fights*
Boxer clan versus Briefs clan
PS3 fanboys vs. 360 fanboys vs. Wii ninjas
Red versus Blue
Miyamoto, put some pants on, please.
