Jeez, this is just wrong. Can you guys let the thing die with some dignity? It deserves a lot better than this. Plus the movies that were released on it still works and looks fantastic. Just let the thing be.

DVD playback is standard with the 360's without an add on, so aside from the existing HD-DVD library, the thing is in fact useless.
Could we refrain from the teabagging, please? Yes, we all know that HD-DVD lost. Articles like these aren't much comfort to the individuals who paid $200+ dollars for their players, so stop rubbing salt in the wound.

@SG79: I heard somewhere that it's quieter than the 360's DVD drive though. Also, although probably not worth $50, but I guess it would mean you wouldn't have to take whatever game you're playing out of your drive in order to watch a DVD.

How disrespectful. The HD DVD player loved you enough to stay by your side and play what YOU believed would be the right DVD format against Blu-ray DVD's, and to relegate it to a coaster or doorstop is NOT COOL. When I leave out tommorow, I'm personally going to pour beer on the curb for my dead homie, the HD-DVD player.

@icepick314: Mine has yet to break, but I'm gonna buy a second if they drop to 50 bucks because I already have 49 hd-dvd and 47 blu-ray and I refuse to sell a still working format only to rebuy them on another.
Plus, the 5 free hd-dvds thing is still technically in effect, so I could get a player and 6 movies for 50 bucks.... sounds like it's worth it to me to keep the player and just buy everyone else's cheap movies while expanding my blu-ray as well :).
