I don't normally like posting eBay auctions. I find something about them inherently tragic. But this one, oh boy, this one is just nice to look at. Some bloke in France is selling every Japanese Dreamcast game ever made. Every single one. 606 of them. Even awesome rare stuff like De La Jet Set Radio. Oh, and did I mention they're all sealed? They're all sealed. All 606 of them. Sure, bidding starts at $20,000, but for the entire Japanese Dreamcast collection, sealed, that may well constitute a bargain.

Nice collection, but $20,000 is a bit much.
why is there a passport on it? or is it some swanky case?
@psycoking: Really? That's only $33 a game for a /complete/ collection, all in unopened state for a dead system. That sounds hardly too bad to me. <_<
Dear god...had I the money to buy this.
Oh shit, Id so love to get this.
I just dont have 20k. D::: If I did Id seriously consider it though.
@Aprocalypse: hmm. Forgot they were sealed. Still its a rather big hit to take all at once.
I've got better things to do with money.
must be alot of dating sims...the dreamcast was made for that sorta thing
What a crazy fool. He goes that far out of his way to buy every single freakin one and never opens them. The buying, the selling, the waiting, all those plastic rappers... pointless! *runs and chews on hand in the corner*
Looks like someone already bought them
@jjpember:
Looks like it never sold.
I find that to be a bargin really... consider some of those titles in that pile is over 300$ a piece.
Take eg just this as an example: [cgi.ebay.com]
that guy that spent about 10k on a PS3 on ebay at launch must feel like even more of a tool
they look like cigarettes
subliminal messaging is alive and well and living on ebay
Damn, now that's a bargain.
@Morberis: You're correct it is too early in the morning.
This looks so great...
Jesus, you could this lot and then turn around and sell them all for a profit. Not to mention fulfill some poor sega fanboys' wetdream for a little while.
There is nothing sadder than a sealed game.
They're meant to be played, damn it.
@Marlor: Not if you already have an opened copy around. ;D
Its like historical artifacts in a sense.
@MrSoursop: It's the casing for a series of games called Eldorado Gate. It was an episodic RPG from Capcom, illustrated by Amano.
But does it come with the Dreamcast Console?
I'm gonna do this for my X360, and sell all these games 16 years later.
This auction is akin to somone selling you a ten ton block of coal with a few diamonds in it that aren't big enough to lace a drill bit.
Completists might see it as a bargain, but pound for pound you're getting ripped off.
De La Jet Set Radio! What the hell - where did that come from?
@Shin-Kaiser: De La Jet Set Radio was a Japan re-release of the original game, and it was only available by means of ordering via Dreamcast Direct. It includes everything (music, characters and levels) that was added to the US version. Pretty rare stuff! *drools*
@Bakunyu: Cheers, I've been looking for it online right now. Looks like it's really hard to get (deserving of the 'rare' title) - is this more or less the same as the american version? I want to play this game again, but if the US version is the same, I might as well just get that.
can you seriously call any dreamcast collection complete without the official samba de amego maracas? *sigh* sweet memories
@Morberis: Yeah, the guy put it up on eBay "just for fun". [sealedgame.heavenforum.com]
If they had every Dreamcast Peripheral in it (including arcade stick, VMU and Samba de Amigo), i'd consider too.
@Marlor: I dunno about nothing sadder, but in principle, you're right on. And if you already have an open copy, give the sealed one to someone who wants to play it.
$20,000 may or may not be an ok price, but it's not a "bargain". That's $33 per game, and most of these can be had individually for around $5. Even accounting for the rarities, they're not collectively worth $20,000.
There is the question of time in procuring them, and how much that's worth to you, and for some that could bring the price to $20k. But a "bargain", to me, is getting something for below market value. This is not below market value.
the dreamcast will never die!
Can anybody say INVESTMENT?
@Aprocalypse: HOW DARE YOU THE DREAMCAST ISN'T DEAD!! IT WILL NEVER DIE
*SMART investment?
Nice story, it was even nicer when i tipped you off about it two days ago *le sigh*
@fearoffours: Are we hating on collectors in here? Please count me in.
I wish I had a sattelite that would dissolve all shrinkwrap from space.
It's one thing to keep a backup copy of Shenmue. What you see above is ridiculous.
Please ignore any typos. I'm......uh......multitasking.
@Shin-Kaiser: Indeed I would definetly recommend getting Jet Grind Radio as it's much easier to find and it won't burn a hole in your wallet! It has the same content as De La Jet Set Radio (save that all the text in JGR is english, as opposed to DLJSR being part-english part-japanese).
The only other difference I can think of between DLJSR and JGR is that DLJSR features a full-color disc label (as opposed to usually less colorful Dreamcast discs), so nothing game-altering in itself.
@nolifedopestar: Like someone with a zero rating or even 1 successful transaction would seriously cough up almost half the value of my Subaru. While the collection is very nice, I never got into DC.
@MugiMugi: That guys been trying to sell that auction for a while now with no luck. I thought he had sold it, but apparently not. As for the price, he's padding it because of all the Sega Direct editions of the game. Nice, but not worth what he's asking.
My God...only $20,000 to experience the joy of opening new Dreamcast games for weeks to come? Yay!
Seriously, though...I want the Japanese version of Illbleed.
why do people at kotaku keep calling jet grind radio jet set radio
Because Jet Set Radio is the international name. Only the US knows it as Jet Grind Radio. Even the sequel was named after Jet Set Radio. Study your lessons.
In any case, how rare is De La Jet Set Radio?
Plus, does it include those demo case GD-Roms they had in Car showrooms to showcase the new Toyota car? Because those are just crazy.
20k is just too high, he should put it back on ebay when the ps7 is out, it'll be at least 100k heh or maybe not. There are some games from DC, that I wished was ported to the ps2.
To quote a man who I'm sure is everyone's here: "This belongs in a museum!"
What's different with the De La version of JSR?
Wowza.... I don't know if I should be impressed or depressed at the idea of someone buying 606 games and never opening them....
Don't think I could ever buy a complete set of sealed games like this. Games are for playing not keeping sealed. Great collection though. If theres a second set going that are all opened for half the price I'll have them. Well actually I still don't have that kind of money.
Wow, that's impressive. $20,000 sounds just about right for all 606 games, all unopened.
@KaneRobot: The De La version was, IIRC the version that reached either the European or the US shores. The original Japanese Jet Set Radio did not feature the Grind City levels or the two associated characters. Plus some music was different. Above all the original Jap version was really buggy.
I believe that is even a difference between the US and PAL version. The US soundtrack featured more rock oriented music.
@NoFunShogun: Now that is a very interesting and concerning point. A little bit of collecting obsession going beyond.
How many of these collections have actually been sold off for the price that was asked? And did these people do it for the money? In any case if they just wait a few more years. Which will cost them. This could be much more valuable. Like one said, museum valueable. For now these people are jsut too soon in selling off collections.
So where will the first Video Game Museum be build? Goverment sponsored.
@Aprocalypse:
owned him hahaha great job ;D
i wish I could get my hands on this :D
