Lower the damn prices for marketplace points, then I'll be happy.
I wonder how much weight a news item like this has in a blog that's mainly browsed by hardcore gamers... lol
Is there anyone reading this right now that *doesn't* have a 360 yet (if you were ever planning on buying one... i.e. PS3/Nintendo fanboys not included)?
About time, I do hope everything else follows. Sony this means you. And when that happens make sure to throw the DS3's in there too.
It's sad to see some old games still in shelves at 69.99 from when CAD sucked.
Hell ya go Green Leaf! Your totally rocking our dollar with your Canadian dollar.
@Seiryuu: Actually, Sony already did this. This is nothing more than a price drop to account for the exchange rates. Canadians had been getting ripped off because the electronics companies hadnt adjusted their prices to the new exchange rates.
Good to hear, lets hope this means a price drop coming for the rest of the world, Europe in specific.
pffft. MS needs a price drop worldwide, but good for Canada.
@argh: bargin bin old DLC, that would be better.
I got my 2nd 360 for $349 with Forza 2 and NHL 2K8 six months ago. Anniversary bundle or something, yay for us Canadians and the poor American dollar!
"Maple whiskey shots for everyone!"
Hardy Har Har.
This just makes it easier for me to purchase one after they release Gears 2. The 360 will not break so easily by then, RIGHT?!!!
@vr0oM: lol of course.
I have always wanted one, I just decided to hold out for a price drop because of the suckage of CAD.
Aaaaand of course I just bought mine on Saturday. Of course I did. Never. Ever. Fails.
Yeah the Arcade may be in the "Wii price range" but seeing as how a HD does not come standard, its not even worth it.
If it wasn't for that fact that I live in America, and that I can't help but be a Sony kind of guy, I'd totally be stoked. :]
@vr0oM:
Also want one myself but haven't been able to afford it. Only system I've got from this generation is a Wii so far. Otherwise, I'm waiting to get a PS3 or 360 until I get an HDTV, which college tuition has prevented me from being able to afford >_>
@Sandbox_Emperor:
and you call yourself a hardcore gamer?!
lol, KIDDING :) I stand corrected! The best part of picking one up at this point: there's probably tons of games you're dying to own that you can finally play.
A co-worker of mine told me he just picked up a PS2! That back-library will keep him busy for a while...
@vr0oM: Who says this site only attracts the hardcore? I play a lot of DS and Wii, does that mean I shouldn't hang around here?
I'm still deciding between 360 and PS3. I'll definitely be picking up a system this year, depending on which system has the better fall line-up.
Um, doesn't this just bring this down to the pricing in the US? I believe Sony did that a while back so it's about time Microsoft did the same. Canadians shouldn't be screwed over when it comes to pricing, especially considering their dollar is stronger than the US.
@Seiryuu:
Newsflash: Sony did this a long time ago
@vr0oM: Good, I'm not the only one in the world who has never owned a PS2 :P
(I do want one though, for two reasons: Epic game catalog, and to shut up those who declare "fanboy" at the drop of a hat)
@Mit:
Yeah... I know what you mean. At least you have enough sense to wait until you can afford all that... lol. I was pretty irresponsible when I bought my 360.
Remember when Peter Moore said that his ideal customer is would who would rather not eat for a week so that they could buy a 360 and an HDTV?
Well... let's just say that Peter Moore would've LOVED me...
@LittleBigPlaneteer: @ceilingFANBOY: now with 100% more fanboy: I humbly stand corrected! Go Sony, yay!.
I still want a DS3 bundle however.
@LittleBigPlaneteer: Newsflash: I made the same comment a long time ago.
@ShinyNew: Get a price match. If it's within 2 weeks, whatever store you got it from should honor a price match. If they don't, return the system and buy a new one at the cheaper price.
@vr0oM: Oh yeah, thats for sure. I'm really excited to spoil myself lol
@PaulHunter:
eaaasy, I just figured the *main* audience of this site is the "hardcore gamer"...
I didn't say anything about anyone not being welcome here, nor did I say DS or Wii gamers aren't hardcore! I love my DS and Wii :)
I don't really plan on getting a 360, at least not for awhile. There aren't a lot of games that interest me on it right now. XNA is awesome news though, and will definitely help my decision but I am not getting one for awhile. And as much as I dislike Sony, PS3 is more of a priority than a 360. Besides the terrible controller, look of the system, and state of multiplatform games, I would rather get one than a 360 for two reasons: Metal Gear Solid 4, and Little Big Planet. Also, the PS3 doesn't have a %16 fail rate.
That's not wii pricing; wii's cost about $400 on ebay (unless you're willing to go through the wii hunt at best buy, etc.). Ohhh, the bitter irony.
If you have never owned a PS2, please dont comment here..EVER! Your not considered a true gamer.
@vr0oM: haha that's cool. I realized my comment was a little harsh after I submitted it. The only reason I don't have a 360 or a PS3 is because I have been waiting for the prices here in Canada to be a little more reasonable. Our consoles *used* to $100 more expensive than the U.S. even though our dollar is at parity! Talking about ripping off us Canadians. =(
I think another round of price drops are coming before next holiday, but not until the big three sees what GTA IV does for console sales. It'll still be interesting to me to see if exclusive GTA stuff on 360 sways any buyers. It wouldn't sway me, but I am not big on GTA.
After that, I could see price cuts for everyone except Wii, of course, which they wouldn't drop until the demand slows some time in 2020 or whatever.
@Deezenuts: I'd take spelling and grammar over "true gamer" status any day. I kid ;) And yeah, I've never owned a PS2.
@vr0oM: Plan on getting a 360 when the Jasper GPU and a lower price drop appears. So perhaps this summer?
@Deezenuts
...
I really hope that's sarcasm. I didn't own a PS2 until two years ago and since then I have only owned 5 or so games that I really enjoy. A lot of people, sadly, started gaming with the PSX or PS2 and never got a chance to play SNES or NES games and the SNES is the best system ever in my opinion.
@Deezenuts: I pray you are joking. Not owning a PS2 doesn't mean anything.
@SHINYNEW.I hear ya.I bought a PS2 and Gamecube about a week before they both dropped in price.
@Deezenuts: I never owned a PS2, because real gamers play on PCs, not consoles. www.failandlose.com/deeznuts
@Deezenuts:
Replace PS2 with N64 and you are right on the money.
@Xaltmas: Now owning a PS2 is UNAMERICAN!!...oh, wait. Carry on.
These prices have been in effect at Future Shop, Best Buy and Wal-Mart in Canada for several weeks now. I guess they started adjusting as soon as the older stock was depleted. Yeah we could use a price drop on the marketplace points, especially because there's no "stock". I suspect they just enjoy gouging us and will continue to do so for as long as possible.
How about a price drop on games? I'm sick of paying $60-$70 for something that should cost $50.
Hahah, "ringing" in indeed.
I am a hardcore gamer and never had a PS2 either. Had a SNES, PS1 and then went Xbox. And I could only afford to support one console at the time. By the time I could afford a PS2 as well, I was so invested in Live and things like Halo I just never got around to one.
I still don't see the need for multiple consoles, though I have PS3 and 360 now, but only because I won the PS3. Glad I did because I like it a lot, but I never would've bought one, likely, just because of the expense of having two and stuff to play on both.
I lined up overnight for hours on Boxing Day 2006 just to get my 360 pro bundle for $399 Canadian. Seeing as how it's just hitting $349 now, I still feel somewhat justified :)
Except for the fact that I froze my nuts off. And had to resort to peeing in a Home Depot shopping cart parking area while my friend held my spot in line.
@Deezenuts: By who's standards, pray tell? Last time I checked, a gamer is someone who games. So, if I'm not a gamer, what exactly have I been doing for all these years? Mistaking controllers and keyboards for TV remotes?
@rbelmont000: Meh, I enjoyed nes more. Also, originally bought a ps2 to play dvd's >.>.
@ceilingFANBOY: now with 100% more fanboy:
LOL!
Non-PS2 owners hate your freedom!
I think the Elites should at LEAST be $399 by now. This far into the game, microsoft needs to lower their prices more.
I guess they can't afford to lower prices that much, especially after taking the big loss from the Red Ring/Extended Warranties fiasco. I just hope my new Elite doesn't crap out. *keeps fingers crossed*
I got mine for way cheaper then 349$, I got it for 0$! (I won a contest :D) So hum, the price drop don't really affect me...
Err guys.. The Canadian Dollar is at parity with the greenback.
That means that 1$CDN = 1$US.
We're getting the 360 for cheaper than the folks in the states.
If you never owned a Ps2. games you missed out on: Ico, shadow of the colossaus,metal gear 2-3, Final fantasy, katamari, gran turismo, xenosagas, kingdom hearts, guitar hero (started on ps2) socom, god of war, devil may cry, zone of the enders, ace combat, persona, WWE: smackdown (started on ps2)Okami, and so many more games. so if u missed out on these games. that is my reason why a ps2 is important to have as a gamer.
@Bon5ai: Because you can play the whole gigantic library of PS2's on a PC, right? A true gamer would not limit himself to any platform.
