Hasbro and Universal pictures today annouced the formation of a six-year strategic partnership to produce movies based on the toy company's most popular brands. You know what? Just read it yourself. It's pretty short.
Hasbro Inc. (HAS) and Universal Pictures formed a six-year strategic partnership to produce at least four motion pictures based on brands such as Monopoly, Candy Land, Ouija, Battleship, Magic, the Gathering and Stretch Armstrong.I'd say I was completely shitting you if not for the fact that I just blockquoted their official release right there. Stretch Armstrong? Magic the Gathering? Monopoly the Movie? I can already hear the actors viciously fighting over who gets to be the race car. We're so doomed. Luckily the first film won't be released until 2010 or 2011, which is plenty of time for us to dig very large holes to hide in.

Well, this was a good laugh.
Jumanji!!!!
wow.............
What is this I don't even...
Monopoly the movie?
Good god, I'd almost rather watch Uwe Boll movies all day with my eyes taped open than deal with that nonsense.
YOU SUNK MY BATTLESHIP!!!!
Didn't they cover Ouija well enough in The Exorcist?
Go directly too jail well be a heart stopping since when the iron comes to terms with his addiction and turns himself. tagline:"It's not all about free parking"
I think candy land sounds like a good horror flick.
Well...Clue was a good movie. So theres a history of one good board game related movie.
And Monopoly might have Teddy Roosevelt in it.
I hear that if you say "Candy Land" in the mirror 3times and Mathew Lesko shows up with a big bag of money.
Candy Land would make an awesome animated children's movie.
Magic and Battleship would make shitty fantasy and navy war movies, respectively.
I could see a shitty horror movie about a Ouija board but like I said it would be shitty.
I've never heard of Stretch Armstrong.
And I don't know how the fuck they can milk out a Monopoly movie.
+ Watch video
I'd watch it if it were like this.
i'd be happy with a Stretch Armstrong movie...so long as he still bleeds corn syrup like in real life. Magic, The Gathering will be the next Dungeons and Dragons movie. Candyland? Kids'll love it. Ouija wont be a movie, its impossible, but monopoly? not sure. How about another Clue movie people.
Are you kidding me?
Hasbro, it's not April 1st yet
"Monopoly The Movie?"
Yup, starring Donald Sutherland as the Monopoly Guy, Natalie Portman as the iron, and Jim Carrey as the race car. The other pieces have yet to be cast, but I'll let you know as soon as there's any news.
Yay, now we get to see an action flick showing how criminals prevail with a "get out of jail free" card.
Just...wow...big WTF on the whole thing.
That is really interesting. I want to see how they pull it off.
Maybe its a story of a hustler ultimately building a hotel on Boardwalk?.
"Do not pass go, Do not collect $200"
@Nightshift Nurse: Nursier and Shiftier: First thing to pop into my head. I can see them making movies out of some of these. I don't know if they'd be any good but I can definately see it.
Why all the hate? Clue was an awesome movie. I can see it working if done right.
@eternalplayer2345: "Its not all about free parking"
LOL! XD
I want to see the Stretch Armstrong movie.
Clue the Movie was good (in a bad sort of way), but the board game lent itself nicely to a movie adapation. I just don't see the same thing with Monopolgy, or any other board game really
@GPman: Full of lies. I think el Diablo was smiling though..
I can only imagine a monopoly movie being like in real life, everyone will get bored and leave before finishing the game/movie.
They made an Ouija based movie called Witchboard, though that has never stopped hollywood from making the same thing twice or more. If they make a movie based on monopoly Bill Gates would make a great casting choice.
@Ollivander:
As just mentioned, Clue is basically a mystery "who done it?" type of board game, which is much easier to transform into a movie. What kind of plot could be made from Monopoly and still keep the board game concepts alive?
Basically you'd have people in New Jersey who are buying up property, taking over boardwalk, etc.. Maybe they could turn it into a Mafia type movie, like The Sopranos
@Coldbrand: Luke, I AM your battleship.
It's official, then! The suits at Universal Pictures are smokin' weed!
LMAO
"Today Hasbro and Universal announced that they have formed an alliance to make sure that from this day forth nothing but shitty movies based on bored games, I mean board games will flood the cinemas near you. We have also announced that Brad Pitt will be in the new Monopoly movie, he will play the voice of the magic hat, we are currently attempting to get Ben Affleck as the dog."
Chris Walken as Moneybags!
I can see it now, and I almost wish I hadn't.
@DrakeLake: I approve.
I hope this movie does not pass GO.
@LittleBigPlaneteer:
Monopoly: Mafia Edition
The next Wall Street!
Clue was a fun movie. I think I have the VHS somewhere. Honestly, they all seem to be easily adaptable to common genre save Monopoly, but I can't say a Monopoly movie sounds uninteresting. Of course, Universal...
'Knocked Up' was okay, but I can't think of any other good movies they've done, least not lately.
.....i...you know i honesly have nothing to say other than What?
I see it now, Monopoly Guy is actually an undercover cop who is there to clean up Boardwalk and about to assasinate some random Model, always gets a 100 dollars, and here's a twist...it the very climax of the movie, he ends up in jail, but uses a the "Get out of Jail" Card.
Oh I mentioned model because at some point in the movie he will end up on a beauty contest and winning too!! ahahahahahahaha
I see Bill Gates owning everything in the movie, but he picks up a Chance Card and gets sued for having a monopoly because that will be illegal. Poor Bill.
Im going to laugh at you all when a Monopoly movie comes out and it is awesome.
Magic, the Gathering: could work, as long as they don't take themselves too seriously.
Stretch Armstrong could be an awesome super hero movie parody. (I always always wanted a Stretch)
Candy Land: I can imagine a CG kids movie about saving Candy Land from the evil Dr. Plaque and Emperor Tartar...
However the others... any spare room in your hole?
It's the monopoly guy!
*whispers* Thanks for the free parking.. *winks*
You don't seem afraid. Are you not surprised to see us?
How do decisions like this get made? What the fuck went on in that boardroom? I'd say drugs were involved, but I've heard better ideas from stoned people.
Gerard Butler IS... The Admiral. IN:
BATTLESHIP: THE MOVIE.
"YOU! SUNK! BATTLESHIP!!!!"
*boot*
Aww, c'mon, nobody liked Clue??
+ Watch video
@JerrD74: hopes his license issues get fixed soon: and i know that was Parker Bros in case anybody was gonna go there :-P
@Nightshift Nurse: Nursier and Shiftier:
HELL YEAH!
Its gonna be a hit. Whats more entertaining than a movie about real estate in time when real estate is bombing here in the states. Its clearly a comedy. or... a tragic comedy.
@Nightshift Nurse: Nursier and Shiftier: hehhe so true''
Cluedo is awsome :P But this is making Monopoly, crazy stuff.
Curleh Moustache!
I want to dog on this, but as already stated Clue was a good movie.
