Ah, the little engine that could. It's a tale of triumph over adversity, of tenaciousness, or unwavering dedication in the face of insurmountable odds. And it most definitely applies to MotorStorm, which has now sold three million copies. Three million! It's a good, fun game, sure, but three million good? Goes to show what bundling a game with hardware in just about every territory on Earth can do for your sales!

isn't 3 million the ENTIRE playstion 3 community?
If MotorStorm can sell 3 million, maybe racing games don't need decent single-player or split-screen modes. I kid!
It would have been more inpressive if it wasn't bundled everywhere but still good.
yeah maybe if halo sell millions of copies maybe a console fps shooter doesnt a decent single-player or depth at all
Sorry Ronin, I don't feel like debating it, but that had nothing to do with MotorStorm.
Nice link, pretty informative :D
Says it all about the game, really.
of course pal, have a nice morning coffee, enjoy n relax trough the rest of the day
@MagnusGman: Old joke is _old_.
Hopefully they can take the criticisms to the game and make Motorstorm 2 a great game. Motorstorm was just lacking in some areas, had great gameplay and such, but needed more.
@eastx: Burnout Paradise didn't have split screen local play either... and thats selling well.
@-Sigil-: It had done over a mil worldwide already before it was bundled
@7th_Ronin: Fanboyism is getting old. Seriously. Stop it.
@MagnusGman: Mus have missed the post saying its sold 10.5 million. Or you know, the one where it outsold the 360.
I still don't really like MotorStorm, it's alright I guess. I played it at a friends but I've never opened my copy. I haven't opened my Ridge Racer 6 I got with my 360 either, so shows how much I like racing games.
Although the game lacks depth, excusable considering it was a launch title, it holds a candle to what the machine is capable of; nevermind the physics but the visuals in that game are stunning. It's sure to impress alot of PS3 owners and please them on their new purchase.

Did you run this through babelfish before posting?
Kyle, you got me there. Burnout Paradise does have a far more substantial single-player, but of course it's not the first game in a series either.
@MagnusGman: Surprise! PS3 community is now worth 10.5 million.
@Evo:
...and growing =)
Yup, I'm actually the 10.5 millionth customer. Mine arrives today. Booya!
@MagnusGman: shut yo dumbass up PS3 is outselling 360 in most parts of the world.
@eastx: welcome to the family
its about 28% of the population, which is a lot for a game regardless. in comparison for the fanbois of both sides of the argument halo 3 is what like 5 million? if that? thats around 30-33% (though i think the numbers for new consoles are skewed thanks to rrod), thats basically saying the attachment rate/% is about the same for motorstorm and ps3 as halo 3 and 360. Thats not a direct comparison saying either game is bad or amazing, thats just saying "wow, a game that not many people expected to sell well, is actually selling pretty damn well"
i didn't expect motorstorm to get over 1.2million, 3 million is pretty slick for that kind of game (1st generation in terms of both tech for the ps3 and 1st in the game series)
@Zaos: Last I'd heard, Halo 3 was around 8.1 million actually.
They had better start sorting the whole online games XMB intergration I guess. I hate having to go back to the main menu just to read some pointless message from someone on my friends list!!! SORT IT OUT SONY!! please x x x
AMEN!
@zoas: does it count as attach rate if you bundle it with the console? bundling makes the sales figures and attach rates for any game meaningless.
Sales are 'over' 3 million and were actually pegged at 3.3 million by NextGen.biz back in December....given sales in Jan world wide it should be at approx 3.5 million now.
[www.next-gen.biz]
Motorstorm was part of the protective packaging around the Blu-Ray player I bought!
@Father ColdCuts: Yeah, they sure are taking their sweet-ass time integrating that thing. I could have done it by now if I had a waffle iron and some plutonium. And a rubber band.
@Zaos: More like 7.2million for Halo 3 so far. A pretty massive difference from 5million.
I think it's pretty sad Motorstorm did so well. It was so clearly a rushed game. The gameplay was great but the amount of content was insulting. Charging full price for it was ridiculous. A lot of the top selling games are often so as they have a huge amount of content. Halo 3, Gears, R:FoM, Zelda etc. You get a huge amount for the price, in Motorstorm it feels like ''Here is half a game, if it does well you can expect the other half''
@Captain Impulse: i was going off a guess in the ballpark :( sorry i hit short. thats about a 47% attachment rate then - which is nice...but its halo and people bought the 360 just for it (and eventually started playing cod 4 ;) )
@WillUnwise: why does it make it meaningless? because you say so?
@Father ColdCuts: Hey hey! Good news a-brewin'
[www.dbtechno.com]
Looks like the in-game XMB is en route. God knows how long the route is though...
@Zaos: Meh, it's probably more sad that I knew it.
@MagnusGman: Fanboy /off, please.
@TitillatedOcelot:
Well we can't just go off releasing things all willy-nilly now can we? That's not good business sense. It'll be that much bigger released with Home which is what they had in mind all along
@zaos: attach rates tell you how many games a consumer (on average) will buy for their console, after purchase. This allows them games developers/publishers to guage how likely it will be that their AAA/ZList/Whatever game will be purchased. Games bundled with consoles, if included, distort that figure. What's more I am talking about games included at the platform holders level (ie. in-box bundling) rather than Games That Come With The Console Down Your Local HMV*
Remember sales figures and attach rates are more important to those in the games industry than those of us that consume games products.
*or whatever you have in your territory
@Father ColdCuts: If you feel the urge to read some pointless message as soon as it is sent, then the game you are playing must not be very good. Fractured gaming is a bad idea, which may lead to poor[er] narratives in the future.
As for Motostorm, while it has [many] flaws, the pure gameplay experience is superb. For a launch game new IP i am happy.
I've noticed that every tiny piece of trifling, trivial news related to the PS3 or any of its games is made into an elaborate song and dance on this site. Every time the PS3 (which is still FAR behind its competitors) sells a few units one month, then it's "OMFG! The PS3 istaking over!!"
So Motorstorm has finally hit the 3m mark? so fucking what? It was bound to happen sooner or later. Will a post go up every time any game hits that mark or just when it suits a particular agenda (which, in this case appears to be making the PS3 look more successful than it is).
I'm starting to wonder about the objectivity of this site...
@Zim: @Captain Impulse:
8.1 million or 7.2 million thats a pretty big difference inbetween itself and from 5 million. make up your minds plz ;) Don't sell yourself that Halo 3/Gears/Zelda had content. Halo suffered from the same problems halo 1/2 did, gears had like a 5 hour single player from what i heard. Zelda while it had more was a gamecube game.
Motorstorm isn't the the greatest game in the world, has less content than those mentioned above but not by much for a few - and the online is fun as hell and the company is still commited to updating it which is equally impressive.
@inphanta: I would think it is 'news' as it is the first PS3 game to reach this amount.
@inphanta: Shut yer trap. I'm sick of the accusations about this site's objectivity. You don't know what you're talking about. If you read this site on a regular basis you'll notice that all 3 systems get chided on a regular basis, and all 3 get the elaborate song and dance on occassion too.
@Captain Impulse:
I see dead peopleeee.... err fanboy
@Zaos: Zelda was a GameCube game!? JESUS FUCKING CHRIST IT MUST'VE SUCKED!!!! Oh my god, I can never play Super Mario Bros. again. That game's like... 20 years old! No way could it still be awesome today...
MotorStorm a million seller? Proof we live in a unfair world, I beleive Uncharted deserved that.
@maximatron:
Uncharted did sell a million copies

@baked ham:
Thats really not the point. When the best Wii titles are actually Gamecube ports, it is quite disappointing… especially when they had such long development cycles.
I dislike TP because like you assert, i can go back and play the older games with no problem, and link to the past, and ocarina a far better games in context.
@inphanta: Kotaku isn't exactly known for being a den of Sony loyalists. In fact, I remember PS3 fans railing against Kotaku's supposedly anti-Sony bias more than once.
It so happens that, lately, Sony has finally caught a break from the bad press and poor results, and has reasons to rejoice both on the VG and home video fronts. It's an almost mechanical effect that Kotaku and other websites would reflect that trend.
Around Halo 3's release, how many posts a day did we have about it? How many articles about the Wii's uncanny ability to print money? And Luke's post is hardly in awe of Motor-bundled-in-every-territory-on-Earth-storm's success...
So funny Motorstorm!!
+ Watch video
Motorstorm is like a better looking Excite Truck, except without a two-player race, slowed down by 100%, and taking out the fun. I know the game looked good, but I'll never understand why people liked it so much (other than the fact that it came out when nothing of value was available on the system and nothing would become available for the better part of a year.
@inphanta: Tin foil hat on?
@Heavyfuel: Because it's fun? And it has online element which means you can actually played against not just another person but many people. Personally, I can't play a game which reminds me of PS1 game again and that's what Excite Truck looks like.
@inphanta:
Oh please, at one time we all used to bitch at how anal they were AGAINST the PS3.
@Sparx88: lol I looked at US sales only. But that dosent break my point, life is still unfair ;)
@Father ColdCuts: You need to get friends that send you pointY messages. At least then it will be worth while come out of the game.
Watch you don't take someone's eye out with one of those new messages though.
What about MotorStorm? Tell me a better xbox 360 racer? PGR? dont think so! i have both and Motorstorm has like tons of adrenaline and jaw droping gfx for a console release game!
This is the game that was bundled with PS3s, right?
If so my answer is the allmighty "meh".
Hasn't Sony been giving away the game with the PS3 for like six months? It's not so hard to believe they've reached the 3 million mark.
