Remember those shiny free Xbox Live Diamond cards that promised to open you up to a whole new world of amazing discounts at shops and restaurants all over the world? Yeah, I've never touched mine either, so I am definitely not planning to renew the card, especially now that it comes with a $6.95 monthly fee. Kotakuite Marco hopped over to the registration page earlier only to discover that the site was no longer accepting registrations, gearing up for the March 1st relaunch of the program under the auspices of Passport Unlimited, a company that runs their own restaurant discount program. Registration has apparently been down since the beginning of January, so the fact that we didn't hear about it until now shows how much people give a damn about the Xbox Live Diamond card. Bleh.
No One Cares About The Xbox Live Diamond Card - Thanks Marco!

Hell, I signed up for my card about 5 months ago and I've yet to hear anything.
Meh.
That is a YEARLY fee Fahey, not monthly.
I signed up for it in december... or november... wonder if I'll ever get it. Meh.
I've got mine in my wallet and never used it once..
btw you had it as a $6.95 monthly fee... the article says it's per year :$
"all over the world"?! I'm pretty sure these were US only. They definitely weren't available in Canada, thats for sure (and thus won't be missed)
whawhawha? Diamond card? Anyone remember that episode of Frasier where they go to a salon and always want one better - bronze, gold, diamond!
you do?
Good times, good times.
Never used mine, and most places looked at you funny when you tried to use it.
Biggest waste of time ever.
I got that card a long time ago, I just like having my gamertag on a card and showing it off to all the ladies!
Do we need to cancel something to not get charged??
I have had one for a while now and it just sits in my wallet not being used. I am definately not going to pay for it.
maybe it will finally get some good deals
I hated the fact that a lot of the discounts were buy one get one free. Like Quizno's for instance. I don't need two, just give me one free sammich.
Fahey you are putting me to sleep today.
This is the 1st time I have heard of it!!
@Collapse The Control: If you go to the jump it talks about current members maintaining their subscriptions for free till they expire in 2008. You may have to pay the yearly rate if you want to re-subscribe afterwards. So no worries Collapse.
eh.
never heard of it.
First off it took about 5 months to get the card. Secondly all it did was give you access to a coupon page. Most of the "savings" where lame and not worth the time to print up a coupon and show flash your chick magnet of a "Diamond Card".
@Danjaranja: Thanks!
@Raziel66: Hellfire, man! Quiznos is the only reason I wanted one of those damned cards!
They've got a pepper bar!
I got one when they first came out, and received another one the next year, but I honestly don't know what they are for.. they just look cool.
Ha! I never even got one and I signed up 2 years ago.
@LaserJudas: I got mine after about 9 months of waiting...hold tight, buddy.
if I remember correctly, I signed up for mine maybe 6 months ago. I haven't heard anything yet and now that this is happening I hope not to.
Strange but true ...
I signed up for the Diamond Card the day it was launched. I received the card in the mail a week ago today. What was that? A 1 or 2 year wait? I had completely forgotten about it. I wonder if MS is sending them out to anyone who had signed up now, in hopes of getting some of us to pay a monthly fee.
MS "reward" programs always suck and never last long. Remember the "Old Spice Challenge?" At the time MS said it would be the first in a line of promotions that would actually make achievement points worth something. I got Contra for free because of it but there has been nothing since.
You guys are missing out, you have to get this card!!! Last week I used it at the airport cause my flight was delayed. Free full bar, a place to sleep, free food, and free internet. Badass man...get it :)
@stromasdragon: me too, but apparently we didn't really miss out
i just looked up some of the offers or whatever, and it's like on of those coupon books sold at schools for fund raisers. "free small fry w/ purchase of value meal", "5% off total purchase or $50 or more", etc. Random crap that grandmas care about, not gamers.
I've had mine for over a year now, only used it once... on something I can't even remember.
It's actually only $6.95 a year which isn't too bad but they should really up the ante on the discounts and deals in that case.
I just like the card because it has my gamertag on it. I have never used the damn thing but I've had it for over a year. It only took me two weeks to get mine in the mail. Seems like such a hassle to use it because you have to show the coupon with it, or else the employees won't know what the hell you are talking about. I hope it gets better soon so I can use my fancy piece of plastic.
I must've signed up for it, what... 8 months ago, or some ridiculously long time ago? I never got mine, and I doubt I will. :/
this is mad old....find some new stuff to flame microsft for...im sure theres MANY more
I signed up months ago and forgot about it...I got in the mail a few days ago. Do you think they will grandfather in those of us that got ours already...and if not, can we sue. =P
lol like the guys in Texas sued for the live outage. (or tried to)
The only use I got out of mine was constant, neverending $2 off on large subs at Quiznos. That was a pretty sweet deal for about a year. Then Quiznos stopped supporting Diamond, and I haven't used it since.
Just went to the Xbox Live Diamond site for the first time about 2 minutes ago, to see what "hot offers" were there for me and my card. Every single deal is worse than the deals found on the coupons that are stuck in your mailbox every single day. I'd actually be paying more if I used the diamond card to pick a pizza up at Papa John's or a roast beef sandwich at Arby's (if I ate beef). Their "Dish Network" deal is worse than the deal Dish Network themselves gave me when I signed up without a Diamond Card. $6.95 for this? Not a chance. Too bad the card itself wasn't bigger -- I could use it as a coaster. It would go well with the Perfect Dark Zero disc my first 360 scratched all to hell, back in Jan. '06 and that I've been using as a coaster ever since -- just as a reminder to myself not to be an early adopter ever again.
I think I used the quiznos coupon that came along with the card when I first got it. I never used the card though. Its in my wallet though, since it looks pretty cool and all and it's got my name on it.
But yeah. I wouldn't pay a dime for it. Just as long as they don't start using my information for telemarketers or something now that they've handed it over to some sort of corporate restaurant discount company...
Back when I was growing up, I ate corn flakes. In my box of corn flakes was a mall discount card that offered me discounts at a bunch of stores. All I had to do to get one was buy a box of cereal, and it didn't take months of waiting to get it. Microsoft needs to learn from Kellogs how to run a promotion.
well they'll probably add some worthwhile content but not until all us freeloaders are off the subscription. It was a cool piece of plastic, but i won't really miss a 3rd one in my wallet.
I only use mine for "Rent one game, get one free" coupons at Hollywood Video.
I use mine all the time, it's a pretty sweet deal, I wonder if there will be better deals when they start charging per month...
Too bad Hollywood video is going bye-bye.
I have mine sitting next to my Wii.
It collects more dust than my Wii too.
I just got another one of these in the mail last week. Apperently my old one experired. I wouldn't have known though because I threw it away agaes ago.
Atleast Xbox Live gold is worth paying for... ehm *cough This ain't!
I signed up years ago and it's never showed up =/
@LaserJudas: Heh, I originally got mine for Quizno's as well. Too bad all the coupons suck, though!
At least the card looks pretty. And that won't change when it expires.
I registered mine about one year ago, never got it.
@GMC: I remember that, LOL!
"What's the point of upgrading to Gold? What if you find that there's a Platinum door after the Gold one?"
Didn't understand it then. Still don't understand it now.
But if it gets me into strip clubs it's SO worth that fee. Gonna get me one of them fancy lap dances!
I never got one of these foolish things. I signed up... beginning of my senior year of high school, and I'm three-quarters of the way through my freshman year in college. FAIL.
Looks like they forgot it's a leap year..
@Sailorcancer: It will also get you discounts on a visit to your doctor for that rash...
I got mine, I've never used it.
i dont know if the united stats Has the SPC card but that would be a great replacement if you lived in Canada.
Yea, I tried to use mine waaay back when they came out at one of the listed vendors, and the guy stared at me as though he had never heard of it before. I figured it was just because it was too new and news had not spread, but the same thing happened a month ago.
Now I only keep it in my wallet to embarrass my wife when I hand it to a waitor/waitress to attempt to pay for dinner, and then pretend I am shocked when they don't accept my diamond card.
Honestly, that beats getting a free quiznos sub any day.
i've got one and have never used it. what a joke.
I guess I'm alone on this boat, but I used mine a lot. It gave you a discount on Target.com, I bought shoes online for a great price, and I was using it to order pet food and getting a great price on the stuff.
I would never dream of carrying the card around...indeed, I'm not certain I ever actually received a card. But I do have to say I found it quite useful.
10 years from now, you'll be sitting in a game show audience, and get selected. The MC will give you $10,000 on the spot, if you can produce from your wallet, a Microsoft (remember that company, folks?) Xbox Live Diamond card.
You cry. On Let's Make a Deal in HDTV.
