This a pretty interesting short documentary on the making of a commercial for Biohazard 2/Resident Evil 2. The commercial was directed by zombie master George Romero and starred (the recently deceased) Brad Renfro as Leon Kennedy. I can't say that I've ever seen a documentary on the making of a commercial but this one is actually pretty interesting with the possible exception of the vapid quotes from the gal playing Claire Redfield. It lasts about eleven minutes and is definitely worth a watch.

I got bored and skipped through parts. A bit too old-school for my taste, though. Especially the actor who played Claire...eurgh.
Wow that was awesome but anyone have info on the cgi movie?
Leon had curtains on RE2 didn't he?
Pretty cool.
Lincoln Heights Jail! I haven't shot there in years. I can practically walk there.
You guys wanna know something even more scary then dogs jumping out of windows? The girl(Adrienne Frantz) playing Claire in the commercial has won an Emmy... be afraid, be very afraid.
@hevensxj: It looks pretty interesting...YouTube clip for anyone who doesn't know about it.

Cool find! When George A. Romero came to my college years ago, I was lucky enough to be able to ask him about the RE2 spots and his original plans for the RE movie before the project was taken out of his hands. I still find the "Actor X" stuff interesting, Brad Renfro's agent's concerns are probably the reason the ads never saw the light of day outside of Japan. Too bad.
@Aethyr: Yeah i have seen that one before but what i really want is maybe a release date if any yet or more on the story
Gotta love Romero.
*Blergh*
Oh man made the mistake of eating while watching this.
Damn Zombies.
that was pretty cool
Huh, a documentary on a TV commercial? What next, 1 minute previews of 3 minute reviews?! Oh...
@Anthropomancer: I see hwut you did there.
This good to see. Claire Redfield actress voice sound a bit funny. He could of have made this made this into a movie years. I wish capcom would release resident gc games 0-3 again, please.
And Romero's NOW suing Capcom for the similarities in Dead Rising, after filming a trailer for a previous, more commercially successful zombie game? Does not... compute...
Unless it's New Line, without Romero's involvement, suing.
That would make more sense. New Line is shady.
@dexterr: Lol wut?
excellent audio... Romero's voice is hypnotic juxtaposed with the somber instrumental music in the background.
I dont care how much time was put in or if my favorite Zombie movie creator directed it- that commercial was mad cheezy! hahaha'
@sir_carrot: Romero's not suing them and neither is New Line. I believe your gripe lies with Richard Rubenstein, who owns the rights to the films.
@sir_carrot: accually new line is suing capcom, remaro has nothing to do with it
@mossberg: *romero
Wow! Watching this video made me realize that Brad Renfro looks just like Dian Bachar! Amazing likeness.
wow, what a find.
Its so cool that Romero seems to be aware of the game, and seems to be flattered that the games are influenced by his work.
The actress for Claire made my skin crawl.
I have to say that i think after Land of the Dead and espeicially Diary, Romero's 'Master' title is under a bit of scrutiny.
Personally, i'm almost glad he never got to make Resident Evil. It would only end up being another film to take glory away from his previous successes (and genuinely good films).
But then maybe i'm being too harsh.
Land of the Dead was utterly terrible in every way, but this was a good commercial... Sucks that it didn't air in the US.
R.I.P. Brad Renfro
The Doc was slightly interesting but the commercial was terrible. Luckily the game made up for any of its' marketing shortcomings as RE2 is still my favorite entry to the series storywise.
I'd kill (pun not intended) for a HD remake for PS3 or 360, hot damn!
@mossberg: Wow, good to know - I was about to say something about the lawsuit, but if this is New Line only... fuck 'em.
@sir_carrot:
Romero doesn't even own the rights to his films anymore (So much for protecting people's ideas...), and nobody's really suing. New Line just stuttered together a bunch of negative sounding words, and Capcom replied by saying "screw you, I'll see you in court/hell."
I remember watching this on the "Big Boy Barry" show on Sky's computer tv way back in '98.
Anybody ever read Romero's script for the RE movie? It had a few kinks, but I still found it more enjoyable to read than the actual movie was to watch. The scene with the giant serpent was particularly cool...
@king_e_dawg: I read it...
I didn't like it that much though, I didn't think he captured the true intelligence and depth of the characters very well. (Sarcasm)
Jill wasn't the master of unlocking I hoped her to be.
Haven't seen the RE movie though, so I can't really compare the two.
@TheCleaningGuy: is Maximum Risky!: You aren't missing much. As a big fan of the games I find the film versions to be appallingly terrible. Horror movie fans that I know argue that, at least for the first film, that it was a decent, above-average horror flick. It had little to do with the storyline of the games short of keeping the Umbrella Corporation as the evil corporation that developed the T-Virus.
My hope is that the CG animated film coming out soon from Sony will be the true cinematic successor to the games. Sadly, there will never be a live action version of the games that will ever fulfill this fanboy's dreams...
Its funny in this clip, Romero himself says he loves it how these games take on the zombie genre that he himself is impressed.
Talk about taking a total crap on loving how capcom does zombie games there georgie.
@D3Anon: I have absolutely no idea what you're trying to say.
@D3Anon: wtf
@D3ANON: Wow. You're doing it wrong.
@Mistawho: I concur
Hands up who'd watch a making-of documentary about the Segata Sanshiro commercials?
instead of, like just making zombies, ya know, we just wanted to, like, make, just really good zombies, you know. just, like zombies, not just zombies, but, like, really good zombies, you know.
huh?
Every time I hear the Police Station music I get chills. I'm such a baby.
The documentary was 10 times better than the commercial.
So Capcom pays tribute to George with Resident Evil and then gets him to direct a commercial for it, then Capcom gets sued for Dead Rising being too similar to Dawn of the Dead? Something's not right here.
