It's not everyday that we get to play a flash game set in mid-1700's Georgian London, where early policing tactics were introduced by the Bow Street magistrates. It's not everyday that we get to play a flash game made by Alice over at Wonderland! Dubbed Bow Street Runner, it's set in Covent Garden, which was overrun with prostitutes, booze and crime. (And we're trying to STOP this?!) It's a point and click detective game — and a really great one at that!

This game was brilliant AND needs to be on the DS!
I think you forgot to include the word 'century' in the title.
But I agree. Crime is always best by lamplight. I remember this one time in the Whitechapel district... ah, well. Nevermind.
@Insomnia Bob:
And so I did. Much appreciated. :)
Yer right. Crimes 1 through 17 are usually crap, but the 18th always gets me right where it counts.
@Witzbold: Watch out Bashcroft it's the grammar police are about.
........
I kid, don't ban me.
@GingerMohawk: "it's the grammar police are about".
'Nuff said.
Anyway, this game looks awesome, and if I weren't in classes until 2PM or so I'd try it now.
I'll get to it later.
im still a fan of p & c games. always nice to see a good one. i'll be playing this later today.
There are a some books based on this subject matter by James Mcgee. The lead character is Hawkwood, a bow st. runner. They're pretty good.
Heh, I didn't make it: Littleloud did, but I paid for it ;)
Glad you like it. We have some bugs to iron out: get those by the next episodes, I reckon.
This was great! Loved it! Want more :D
Wow, the brief bit I played was really good fun.
I agree with the DS suggestions, would suit it well
Nice - played through - great game!! Looking forward to the next chapter...
Oh my! This was quite brilliant. Excelent use of cinematics combined with Flashery. I would have liked some sort of progression indication, though. With web games (especially good ones), I like to know how much of the game is still untouched.
Give it us on the DS and we'll build you a statue!
@Myself
Hmm... I guess the 'esteem bar' is an excellent indicator of progression. Think before you post, you fool!
Saw this yesterday on Jay is Games, but didn't have time to check it out. Glad to here it's worth playing, I didn't have time to read their review, either. Will give it a go sometime during the next week.
@Me again
The damn bar resets when it's full! Gah!
@Gawker peoples
I can haz "edit comment button" now?
Channel 4 currently has a rather good TV show about the Bow Street Runners, called City Of Vice. Easy to find even outside the UK.
@All About Lily Chou-Chou: ...as mentioned on Wonderland, obviously.
This will be my last comment for the day, since I've been raking up careless mistakes and typos today.
I played this back when it was called CSI and you had to use money to buy it. =D
It's god. I like it.
@baked ham: Uhh.. I mean, it's good!
@Insomnia Bob: Blame the masons for the whitechapel one.
what a brilliant flash game. reminded me of the old days of fmv graphic adventures. phantasmagoria anyone?
*!!SPOILERS! DONT READ IF YOU PLAN ON PLAYING!!*
anyone save the harlot? I couldn't seem to get her all patched up in time [[the highest cut was damn near impossible. That whore bleeds too fast!]] - and I really wanted to save her!...ah well - maybe I'm not meant to.
WOW, very good game. [sarcasm]Indeed we have to pay for it, cause being free is a crime.[sarcasm]
SPOILERS
@MistaSergio: I listened too long at the door and wasn't able to save the son, but I was able to save the harlot.
I really, really wish Trauma Center looked like that, it would be a much better game.
FMV! Where have you been for the last decade and a half! This game reminds me of the Sherlock Holmes games that were some of the first CD games ever.
@Bluecell: I don't think you can save the son.
However, saving the harlot seems to be bugged. Every time I click on a wound. It flashes and says "success" when I haven't done anything. I then need to wait two minutes for the clock to run out - and then she dies.
Great.
I might need to try it on Internet Explorer.
@Meldy:
Same thing happened to me.
I deleted all the shockwave files in my temp folder, and tried again, and it worked.
Yeah, I had similar problems. I got stuck at the door listening, wasn't able to break in, and had the same problem with the stitches.
Fantastic game.
I cannot wait to see the rest of the chapters.
@MistaSergio: You can cheat by left-clicking and holding down at the start of the curve, right-click, let go of left mouse button and left-click down again at - or near - the end. Then just wiggle your mouse a little, and you will be good. :)
Thanks for your feedback on our Bow Street Runner game and for helping us dig out all the bugs in the BETA version. Your input has been invaluable and has really buoyed the team who are currently knee-deep in building the other four episodes. Episode one should now be totally fixed and is fully launched today so give it another go… and since you have already had a practise you should get through to episode two with no problems. In this fixed up version your esteem will be carried over to the other episodes… so if you want to be reminded when they're going live simply leave your email address on the form at the bottom of the game page.
That's it for now… good luck with stitching up the harlot!
