Ever hear of Gamma Attack? Was put out by Gammation for the Atari 2600 back in the day. It's bright, it's colourful, and it's also very, very rare. Someone who's claiming to own a copy of the game has just put it up for auction. Starting bid? Oh, $499,999. And ninety-nine cents. Is the game even worth that much? It's definitely rare, but...who knows. Probably not. That's an awful lot of money. At least you'll save on shipping, though: the seller will only part with the game if you arrange a face-to-face meeting with him. Which all sounds a bit fishy, but then, would you write a cheque for half a mil? No. Because when a chance pops up that you can fill a briefcase full of cash, meet a stranger in a deserted car park and exchange the goods under the watchful eyes of hired goons, you take it. Especially when it involves an Atari game, and not something more serious, like biological weapons, high-grade narcotics or, I don't know, your daughter.

Insanity seems to know no bounds.
Oh wow...
I'd expect a gold SMB3 signed in Shiguru Miyamoto's blood for that much...
Now where did I put this 499,999.99$ note of mine? I'm pretty sure I stuffed it in a pocket when leaving the house this morning...
hey.. i have one of those at home
Half a what?
The game was originally listed at 999,999.99 I guss he dropped the price
@Jurai: Well, then this is a BARGAIN!
*guess
there was a 20 cent listing day on the 13th, some of the 'collectors' love to post ridiculous auctions which they know noone will ever conceivably bid / win on in order to show off that they have something.
mang...
Bill gates dropped 30 some odd million dollars for Da Vinci's codex; i.e. 15 some odd pages of his scribbles.
500k is too early, maybe another decade later it would be worth that much.
If I show up with my $500000 in unmarked $5, $10, and $20 notes and he does not have my 1ยข change, I'm going to be very upset.
So I show up with my 500k, and eBay dude shivs me in the face, takes my cash, and re-lists it on eBay citing a non-paying bidder? Sounds like fun.
This doesn't sound like a scam at all! In fact I think Imma start this kind of pay N' pickup strategymwith my ebay customers =D
500k? Not if it was the last copy of Goldeneye.
@SolidOni_ds:
* strategy with (edit button please! At this early in the morning it's hard to rant and spell everything correctly on the first go)
And they say there's no video game credit bubble!
Seriously, you could get like 4 of those ultimate game collections you see pop up every once in a while for this price. Though I guess if you're a hardcore collector with lots of money to lose, this *might* be worthwhile
Dear estimable sir:
I submit to your consideration one most profit making and assistful proposition. I am Jeuve-Loc Pamatte, son of the former Gaming Minister of Nigeria, who before his arrest informed of me an safe deposit box containing The Rarest Game in the World. In order to gain access to this box, I will need your investment of $499,999.99....
that's crazy. I mean, if I was a billionaire that owned every single other video game ever made, then maybe, but other than that, not worth it. I'd never play it b/c although classic, I do not find the Atari fun... like, at all.
I wonder who is rich and stupid enough to give a shit.
i submitted an offer of two bucks! Lets see if i win!
@zibby: you forgot the caps lock.
LoL at the classification on the listing
"Product Type=Holy Grail"
Interesting background story leading up to this ebay auction:

@Fyren:
I may be controversial here, but I think that the codex is more than 60 times as significant than Gamma Attack. I mean, if he assembles the gold machine, then Bill could flood the market and become even richer.
I've already got this one, what I really need is an E.T. cart to complete my collection.
Considering famous works of art sell for that much money, I can't imagine an Atari game, no-matter how rare, will be in enough demand for that kind of price. It's not, to my knowledge, historically significant other than its rarity. I could see it hitting 5 figures, but nowhere near 6.
Hmm, he could just be using simple psychology to sell his game at a high price. By making the selling price so artificially high he: draws the attention of people who would want to buy it and makes a lower price than this seem more reasonable.
So assuming he is using simple psychology and is waiting for this auction to bomb, he can just list it for 20K next time and people will buy it up in no time because 20k compared to 500k? easy choice.
Crud. I want it, but I'm about $40 short. Anyone willing to front me the last little bit? I'll send you a picture of the game when I get it! :)
Get your bids in guys...this one's going FAST.
"would you write a cheque for half a mil? No. Because when a chance pops up that you can fill a briefcase full of cash, meet a stranger in a deserted car park and exchange the goods under the watchful eyes of hired goons, you take it."
My thoughts exactly.
Ouch they really didn't like my $2.00 dollar offer!
Thanks! With your offer, you've tipped us off that you are most likely a problem buyer waiting to happen. This gives us the oppurtunity to Ban such individuals from our listings. So Thank you, You are now forever banned from our listings. Cya Loser
The graphics on the box is probably more interesting than the game itself.
@winston441984: I'd hate to see what they would have said to one dollar.. Holy shitheads! I bet this guy has a few spare Enzo parts lying around. If you know what I mean.. How about, with your 500,000 starting bid, you have tipped US off to the fact that YOU are in fact, nefariously insane, greedy, lying, and have delusions of sudden world dominance. I will be ADDING YOU to my list of favorite sellers so I can have a good lol everytime I look at your listings/read about your eventual arrest.
"IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAAAAANNNDDD!!!"
