EA REWRITES HISTORY IN COMMAND & CONQUER: RED ALERT 3 Be Among the First to Return to Red Alert with the Exclusive Beta Invite in Command & Conquer 3: Kane's WrathChertsey, UK - February 14, 2008 - After a seven-year hiatus, Electronic Arts today announces the return of Red Alert, one of the most beloved and best-selling real-time strategy franchises. Command & Conquer™: Red Alert™ 3, for the PC, Xbox 360TM video game and entertainment system and the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, takes players on an epic adventure to a breathtaking alternate future spawned by time travel run amok. Developed by EA Los Angeles, Red Alert 3 breaks new ground in the RTS genre, featuring a fully co-operative campaign while bringing back the series' light-hearted style and classic, action-oriented gameplay.
"The Red Alert games are known for challenging hardcore strategy gamers with depth, variety, and innovative gameplay. But they also belong to that rare breed of games that can draw in more casual players with their over-the-top stories, instantly accessible mechanics, and straight-to-the-fun design," said Mike Verdu, general manager of EALA. "With Red Alert 3, our team is continuing that proud tradition by introducing genre-first features like co-operative campaign play, which rewards veterans and casual players alike. In Red Alert 3, friends and family can always have your back."
"It's been too long." said Chris Corry, executive producer at EALA. "Fans have been waiting for a new Red Alert game for seven years, and we're working hard to ensure its well worth the wait. The team is staying true to the series' roots while adding new elements like a co-operatively played story-driven campaign, an astounding new faction that will shake-up the Red Alert universe as we know it, and units that will help make Red Alert 3 everything our fans have been waiting for. And by bringing naval combat into the heart of the game design, we're transporting that fast, fun and fluid C&C gameplay to the high-seas in ways that you've never seen before."
In Red Alert 3, the desperate leadership of a doomed Soviet Union travels back in time to change history and restore the glory of Mother Russia. The time travel mission goes awry, creating an alternate timeline where technology has followed an entirely different evolution, a new superpower has been thrust on to the world stage, and World War III is raging. The Empire of the Rising Sun has risen in the East, making World War III a three-way struggle between the Soviets, the Allies, and the Empire with armies fielding wacky and wonderful weapons and technologies like Tesla coils, heavily armed War Blimps, teleportation, armored bears, intelligent dolphins, floating island fortresses, and transforming tanks.
Red Alert 3 asks the question "What If?" What if every bizarre research project and technology experiment for the last 70 years had actually borne fruit? What if the Philadelphia Experiment, time travel theory, teleportation, invisibility, Tesla technology, and a hundred other intriguing research projects had all paid off and gone mainstream? What if the Soviet Union survived and thrived; what would it look like 10 years in the future? What if the Japanese Empire had never fallen and instead became the ultimate high-tech military superpower? The end result is an imaginative and playful vision of an alternate future filled with possibility.
Command & Conquer fans eager to experience Red Alert 3 before anyone else can get early access to the beta (available for the PC only - an announcement about the Red Alert 3 beta dates will be made this summer) by picking up a copy of Command & Conquer™ 3: Kane's Wrath later this year.

Needs biological suicide bears.
Wait, wha?
Co-op story campaign?
... i think i just drooled on myself.
Red Alert 3! Now I just need a friend to play co-op with, and maybe I should go buy C&C 3 and the expansion to get back into PC RTS mode.
Yay!
After what they promised in RA2 and wasnt delivered...I'm kinda iffy on looking forward to this. I use to be a hardcore player in Tiberian Sun. The co-op campaign sounds kinda neat though.
Japan! Brilliant. And an oddly 1984-esque world set-up.
I hope Putin is leader of the Soviets by this stage of the timeline... for that real feeling of visceral hatred toward the Kirov Airships coming over the horizon.
I hope this is better than C&C2, C&C: Tiberium Sun and C&C:Generals. Then I could actually play a decent "modern" RTS which doesn't involve interstellar combat.
OMG, about time, need to get some practice in. No way i'm gonna leave my air defence open this time around. Anyone know if there's gonna be a PS3 release?
I know that bears shit in the woods, but what about Chrono bears!?
@Siegeman:
Have you tried Company of Heroes?
Needs Hellmarch! otherwise it fails.
@MasterOfPastures: Chrono bears already shat in the woods. And now they're coming. For you.
God.. I hope they leave in the option for Tech Level settings. Had so many "Tech Level 1" Braveheart Style battles in Red Alert 2!!
I have only really enjoyed a few RTS games.. the warcraft games, starcraft, and red alert.
@Balmut: It says above that it will be out for the 360, PS3 and PC.
OH my GOD, THIS guy must HAVE the MOST annoying VOICE, of all TIMMMMMME.
I swear I'm going to be seasick.
Great for those who like the series, but despite all my friends playing it I could never get into RA :(
I wonder if it will run well on my macbook pro....
'the game will also feature armored bears'
hahaha. Finally found a birthday present for Stephen Colbert.
Commanding an army of armored bears? that should please him, or at least help rid him of his bear anxiety.
Sheads a tear for what was Red Alert only to see that EA is making it a bitch game. ;(
Sweet!
I hope RA2's stereotypically accented sniper makes a return.
"He's a dead man"
For a second I thought those were Kotaku "K"s spinning behind Chris Corry. But then it zoomed in and I realized they were Soviet Union symbols. woops!
Keyboard and mouse support on PS3 or die EA
For a moment, I thought he was like a fat Kane.
The fact that this game has armored bears makes me want it so bad.
I still have the original Red Alert game discs and expansion pack (Counter Strike) @@
Can't wait for this.
New faction, new units, co-operative campaign...that's fine. The burning question - the one really big thing - they didn't address though is: will Frank Klepacki return to provide the musical score? I admit, I was very disappointed he wasn't around for Generals or C&C3. Well, we'll just have to wait and see.
Good to know that they're staying with the corny, though wonderfully humorous, tone that has served the Red Alert games so well.
I do have my doubts though. I really did not care for (and I can't stress this enough) the political tones of C&C3 and - worse still - Generals. I consider it a very cheap thing to do: trying to cash in on modern themes of terrorism and...well, I don't want to drag politics into this, I think I've made my point clear.
Here's looking forward to further news.
Didn't they give away in the press release the third faction?"What if the Japanese Empire had never fallen and instead became the ultimate high-tech military superpower?" I am excited to play this and I need to buy a better graphics card for my PC.
Given that all of the RTSes produced at EALA were all mediocre to slightly above average, I don't have too many hopes for this one. Keep in mind the vast majority of Westwood people are not at EALA.
i loved C&C Generals and C&C 3....
but i never got into older C&C before...
i'm definitely interested in Red Alert 3 since it looks to be pretty damm good looking addition to C&C universe....
"Why do you have bullet proof armor piercing bullets?"
"Well, lets say there a gang going around, putting bullet proof vests on bears.... what do you have? Invincible bears..."
Sweet justice, a day one buy for me.
As much as I tried, I just couldn't love C&C3.
If this is anything like the other Red Alert games, it'll be awesome. But if this is anything like other EA games, it'll be terrible.
I am all over this, thank god I just udated my pc and got that 40" 1080p samsung. Anyone up for coop?
TELSA POWER xD
Given that C&C3 was well done, I'd have to say I'm putting my bets on having a fairly well done RA3. Which means its a launch time buy for me.
I wonder if they'll have the chrono troopers back again xD. Using the chronosphere teleporting harvesters into the water was so fun too.
Wat r the systam requiremants LOLZ? Can my 7 yr old Pentium 3 run it?
Westwood is gone. The people who formed Westwood have formed another company.
The magic of the C&C franchise is gone and no matter how much money EA throws at it will bring it back.
What if I want to fight on my own and not with some AI general???
Why is the fat guy in the video yelling at us?
@RetroBob: Then you better get good an dualboxing.
The third faction is obviously a super race of pirates and ninjas...
@darthmole12: Funny you mention that. RA2, probably the best C&C game made, wasn't made by anyone at Westwood. The guys from the original westwood were gone by the time RA2 went in to development.
Anyway this is going to be awesome. Im kind of leary about the whole "Bringing the Navy in to the hart of RA3" but so long as it's not really shitty I'm all for it. I just never liked any of the water units in RA2, so if they can make me like the Navy, then im set.
YES! YES! FUCK YES!
WE WILL BURY THEM!
Oh Red Alert, how I've missed you.
And you brought me armored bears? How sweet!
I'll never cheat on you with those other RTS games anymore!
Armored BEARS? Nobody tell Stephen Colbert about this, lest he launch an anti Red Alert campaign!
Yeah but CnC3 has NO replay Value.. RA2 and RA1 I still play! Especially with the rules.ini file.. I have nuclear monkey that throw nuked bananas. A Grand Cannon that fires Monkey clusters.. and Seak and Destroyer Cows that float in the air and attack the first enemy it finds.
I love RA2... EA you better have a rules editor!!!
Ohh... and not to mention STEATH MKii with seconday weapon of Mind control!! RA2 for the WIN!!!
Finally, I just hope it isn't as much of a let down as C&C3 was. I do love the idea of the COOP campaign, can't wait!
Coop campaign, alright. Now all I need is someone to play it with...
Sigh, the C&C games have a storyline rapidly approaching Zelda-like complexity.
To my best understanding: Kane goes back in time (RA1), messes with the timeline, and the C&C alternate WW2 takes place, eventually leading to the creation of GDI, leading to that version of WW3 between GDI and Nod (TD). That universe then continues on in future games (TS, TW).
RA2 completely branches off after RA1, replacing the Red Alert/Tiberian Dawn storyline with a new alternate one.
Now in RA3, they're going to go back in time, mess with things again, and create some sort of third alternative timeline where neither the RA2, nor the RA1/TD versions of WW3 happened, but an entirely new version.
WTF. Would it kill them to get some continuity here? It was bad enough where we had TWO timelines diverging from a single timeline. Now we have one timeline splitting into THREE, and causing even more paradoxes.
@belger0g: I will now! Thanks belger0g.
I do agree with some of the above sentiment, the time travel thing is getting a bit out of hand. Maybe if they make the plot more self-contained?
"What if the Japanese Empire had never fallen and instead became the ultimate high-tech military superpower?"
Whilst I always approve of high-tech, isn't this role sort of already filled by the Allies?
I feel so so happy. Please bring back the Prism Tanks!! They were the best mass-produced vehicle on the Allies side.
i would laugh if they made the third faction NOD. all hail Kain!
first co-op RTS ever? they've never heard of hegemonia? i mean playing up the positive aspects of a title in a press release is par for the course when you're dealing with EA but out and out lies?
Fo shiz. Can't wait for some moar RA. I think I see Tesla Boats...
I always thought Yuri said "Thoughts were thieved" rather than "thoughts received." I like my way better.
FAST, KOTAKU NEEDS A ROTATING K LOGO!
Guys,to your /gif/ photoshops!
co-op strategy game is edgy enough for the consoles,AND it has a storyline?!
its official...EA has won my heart......not really but still, they are on an epic-win streak right now.
I just want to send my conscripts in with the cry "For mother Russia!" bellowing from their mouths
Why do the units look so cartoonish?
So EA, we have hated each other for so long. These past 18months have been hard on me. My normal rabid hate has begun to subside and the feeling is foreign to me. But wow, you do know how to make ole scazza tickle in all the right places lately. Please keep it up...
"its official...EA has won my heart......not really but still, they are on an epic-win streak right now."
woa wait a minute, what have they done thats been actually any good lately? i dont count reviving old franchises and pretty much ruining them a good thing..
