That chilly breeze I'm feeling on the back of my neck may just be hell freezing over. While Spore will be released in the US on September 7, EA have announced that the game will be released in Europe on September 5. That's all four versions - PC, Mac, Mobile & DS - as well. Hardly recompense for years of suffering, but it's nice to catch a break sometimes.

BRB, gonna check Hell for snow.
Anyone need an ice cone while I'm there?
I'm predicting delays anyway. Those release dates did nothing but get Spore in the headlines again.
More like it, I am pleased with this....
BUAHAHHAA
First game I read about that has release date for Europe scheudled prior to the US release...
I guess Spore is so different it will change the world!
*prepares for a new age*
Nice, EA. Glad to hear, you finally come to your senses. Now release Rock Band, god dammit!
Sorry for my cursing... But in this case it just has to be...
@elevenoverzero: To be honest, after the journobiz people getting their hands on the game and posting impressions, as well as the glut of new screenshots and the like, I'm starting to think the release date is a real possibility. If not as a definite day of release, then possibly as a rough estimate.
This is fantastic news for us UK peeps and stuff, but... I still can't find any info on whether the Mac version is Intel only! I don't wanna haveta buy a whole new comp for this thing.
@E-lai-e: Well, Kengo 2 (Sword of the Samurai in the EU) didn't make it to the US AT ALL. YARRR!
@E-lai-e: LocoRoco hit EU shelves a fair amount of time before Japan and the US got their grubby little mittens on it. But the games that do this are still few and far between, and it looks like Wright is really going the extra mile this time to please the usually shunted crowds - thus the simultaneous Mac release.
Wow.. 2 days really makes up for 28483483 days waiting on Rock Band
Bloody EA!
In your face everywhere else!
@FranUnFine: Sweet :) Altho it should be easier to launch it in US than Europe, here, you need to translate to German, Spanish, French...
@Pombar: Yeah, but rarely the big titles, I just realized that I read about some PS3 demos and other candy released in Europe prior to US as well. And now that I think of it, I bought Singstar for my girlfriend as a christmas present, and I'm quite sure it's not out in US yet...
@Iceman B.: Ill take a snowcone if they have them.
seriously wow 2 days isn't much but its weird seeing our UK friends get a game BEFORE us. any of you EU guys pysched?
Well, from what I know of the way Europe (and Australia...) are treated by the game manufacturers, it's about time they got their due.
why aren't they just having a worldwide launch on the same day?
@E-lai-e: It was English only. Granted, AAA titles ususally get a DDD translation (KotOR, FF X - the two examples for worst case scenarios regarding localisation) in Europe, but most smaller games don't.
@Deadeyereborn: *puts his hand up* I know it's small, and I know it's petty, but I totally am. I would've been very happy just knowing it was coming out on the same day, but before? It's made my day.
I'm only going to put my "smug come-uppance" hat on if it's then delayed in the US by something on the order of the Rock Band delay. Then I'll be happy. Have fun importing at equivalent Euro prices ($80 + lots for shipping)!
@FranUnFine: Wow, didn't know that. I'm probably in the minority here, but I loved that game. It could do with a more polished, current-gen installment. Kengo Zero does not count.
@Pombar: Sweet I cant wait for this game to come out I am so psyched!
Whoopde freaking doo. Two days early. Wow, its a sad day when this is supposed to be good news for us. This totally makes up for Rock Band. I just hope to god we get Littlebigplanet first, given that the devs are in the UK. If not, theres a problem with the world.
@Pombar: "... if the Mac version is Intel only..."
Likely; most older Mac platforms possess such a profound lack of RAM as to possibly render the game unplayable... not to mention Apple's habit of discontinuing service and support of older platforms.
Simultaneous Release.
Get it, learn it, do it.
For God's sake (no pun intended) if you delayed it this much and made us all wait this long the least you could do is release it to EVERYONE at once! (This includes Australia too along with us Americans and those crazy Europeans and so on!)
@PaddyStardust: Ah, ya killjoy. This isn't meant as an apology by Will Wright on the part of Rock Band and other games' delays (I seem to remember FF12 and KH2 had massive delays) - what's he got to apologise for? It's just nice to see this on its own, and for what it is; a triple A dev team deciding to defy the custom and treat the European market with a little more respect and dignity.
Though looking at the last few weeks' British Sales charts, perhaps we don't deserve all that respect and dignified stuff...
they dont do a two-stage release for nothing. give them a break!
Oh, and what's all this about there being FOUR versions, and omitting the Wii? Has that fallen by the wayside?
Geh, of all releases for euope to get early, why this one?
Europe, consider yourselves paid in full.
Awsome! Finally some good news lol
And no, we ain't paid in full, not by a longshot but this is a start :)
@PlayerX: I suspected as much. Poo. Ah well, guess it is about time for a new comp, seeing as I'm using an ancient relic ever since the laptop I bought when WoW came out burnt out a couple of months ago. More money down the drain.
@PlayerX: The Wii version is coming later because development on it started later, iirc. It'll also be somewhat different to the other versions, ala the DS and Mobile releases, so maybe they need extra time to finish it.
@The Amazing Exploding-Man: This does not make up for the near 6 month waits for Rock Band, FF12, Kingdom Hearts 2, and Okami.
@FranUnFine: I see Sword of the Samurai is an "older" game, nowdays, I don't think I have seen a single game release that only supports English in Europe. At least one of German, Spanish, French and Italian are supported as well.
@Pombar: You also have Mass Effect, another reason for me to upgrade my vaccum-cleaner, I mean my old, loud computer.
@Pombar: Ah I know, I'm just bitter...
@E-lai-e: The "big" games usually have only the voice track of the country it's for, even. See Mass Effect. Boy, was I pissed when I found out.
I hate localisations, especially when they include synchros, with a passion.
But then again, ME actually has the first good localisation since the days of the old LucasArts adventures.
P.S.: Want to buy UK Mass Effect Limited Edition.^^
Finally, they acknowledge how much higher PC sales are in Europe. America is probably one of the world PC markets right now with Europe and Asia leading the way. Remember the US PC software sales? Very, very bad.
Do you usually have games released in the US on a Sunday?
Isn't this more to do with the day of the week that games are traditionally released in each territory? Europe always do Friday releases, America... don't. This is a simultaneous release. That is good.
Oh, link=broke.
It's a fair way off, Left4Dead will be released before then there should be more hype for that....it will be released before then won't it? won't it!?
5th of September is a Friday. No shops are open on Sunday the 7th and a game release on a Monday is also unheard of. This press release is a steaming pile of dookey.
@Estel: I think American games release on tuesdays, usually. But they're not as set as Euro releases are.
It's be good to see how the DS version of this fairs. I'll be picking up a copy no matter when it comes out, this side of sometime soon
My American-ness has been insulted...
I will not buy the game, no matter how well it reviews.
=)
What's a Europe anyway?
@FranUnFine: Ahh, you're talking about voice track. Yeah that I can imagine, but there are usually subtitles in all the other languages anyway. At least here in Sweden, we always seem to have lots of subtitles, even on movie releases, but sometimes only english voice track.
I can imagine that putting all the voice tracks is not such an issue on PS3 as it is on Xbox360 or PC because of the limited DVD/CD storage space. Usually all my PC games have english voice only, but the PS3 ones, I think all of them are multi-language. As for in-game language, all the games I can think of come with a language choice.
But...but...but...They are not American! I call shinanighins! ;)
@E-lai-e: Yes, sorry. I think I have a rather unspecific day today.
Keep it up EA
I'm starting to like you.
Doesn't make up for the Brawl delay.
Spore on 360? Please? PLEASE?
2 days less waiting! Fucking whoot!
No wait, that's not what's important.
2 days more playing! Mother-fucking whoot!
:D
We also had Endless Ocean first. Now, if only I realized that when it was actually in stores...
@Zsinj: The game is made in the US. Why would it be delayed?
My ass just tightened in glee... And no, sadly that's not a joke.
@FranUnFine: Thats ok today, it's Feb 13 you know :D
"Hardly recompense for years of suffering."
I don't understand this part. Spore was unveiled at GDC, in AMERICA. T
