Recent filings at the US Patent and Trademark Office may give us some insight into upcoming plans for a number of publishers. While not all filings eventually make it to actual product, there are a few interesting unknowns within. Leading the pack is Capcom's Wolf of the Battlefield which, while unannounced, may be the final name or part of the name of the company's top-down shooter Commando 3.
Sony Computer Entertainment has just registered In The Beginning There Was Darkness, a game we don't believe is based on the book of the same name, chronicling a blind man's life journey while reading the Bible. [Update: As commenter CONFUSEDGAM3R points out, this is part of the God of War: Chains of Olympus ad campaign. Thanks!] Square-Enix has two new filings with Sigma Harmonics and My Life As A King, the latter of which may be a spin on the name of its announced WiiWare game.
Finally, it looks like Ubisoft has two new properties in the works, Aftershock and Strike Hawk. Why do both of those instantly sound like Tom Clancy branded games to me? Regardless, the first may simply be the post-earthquake survival game previously known as Alive. Go ahead, speculate!

These announcements are lame. Just no meat to them. Also the dev and publisher can pull a bait and switch
Mr. McWhertor you win for that marvelous picture of the original Riddler!
Darkness Prequel!1
yeah any time the riddler can be posted is a good one
"In The Beginning There Was Darkness" This is the new ad campaign for GoW: CoO, see this blog post: [Playstation.Blog]
I wish it was a new game though, it sounds cool. LOL
Sony's is for GOW related stuff.
@sUKi: Beatened ;(
That Sony title could be the ICO sequel.
@CONFUSEDgam3r: Hey! Good eye! The post will be updated in a second. :)
I got five bucks down on that Sigma Harmonics is another damn VII spin-off. Any takers?
Dammit I really want Chains of Olympus ported to PS2! I'd rather spend 20 to 40 bucks on that then to buy a PSP just to play it. Although, I should get a PSP for other reasons... Hmm... maybe I don't really care if it goes to PS2 after all.
Unless Jean D'Arc (sp?) get sported to PS2. That's the only other game I can think of I really want to play on PSP.
@baked ham: i just beat jeane D'arc today. it was really fun. it was a quality SRPG. the story gets a little ridiculous near the end but it was a lot of fun other then that
@baked ham: No Patapon? Crisis Core? Etc.? :(
@latinogamer: Thanks. We needed that kind of commentary.
Some of those are interesting titles.
@Robbotron: Heh, I'm with you on that. No bet.
@Sollus: I certainly hope so.
ZOMG my life as a king sounds like it can be a great game. With the right ideas. Being able to work as a conqueror of land but at the same time you can either have your people like you or hate for what you can do. You will go to battle and with the people helping you your morale can be boosted to do special things ala Suikoden. Sigh i should put my ideas on paper and try to create a game.
Holy Patent Info Batman!
Only the Riddler is cunning enough to let this slip through.
Or maybe Adam Wii... Bam! Kapow!!!
(End of lame Batman jokes.)
It surprises me that Aftershock wasn't already taken.
@ SAINT ANIMA: KOTAKU'S POETIC MASSACRE
Yeah Crisis Core... I dunno about that one. I'll have to see more of it before I determine if I'm interested. I've been pretty vocal in the past about my distaste for what they did with Final Fantasy XII. I haven't looked into Crisis Core enough to even know if it's more like FF VII or more like their recent outings which I haven't been much a fan of. If I had a PSP, I'd look into it, but as of this moment, I haven't paid it any attention.
Patapon... I saw a video of it, and the tunes were catchy enough, but I couldn't figure out what I was watching, so that's another I don't know enough about to be excited over at this moment.
I guess I'm somewhat interested in playing Metal Gear PO though, because it is considered canon.
Aftershock: You play as a survivor of a major earthquake so intense the the aftershocks never end. All around the planet cities are crumbling. The landscape is constantly changing, cracking around you. The public is in panic, Riots fill the streets. You must find your way from L.A. to San Francisco to find your Son at his grandparents house.
I dunno if thats the game but thats what I thought of.
Meh, they all sound like there trying to be something deep and meaningful, well except for "strike hawk" and "wolf of the battlefield". Those names just sound really lame and cheesy.
Riddler: Riddle me this, Batman! In my hands, a potent substance! So powerful, it will fuel the creation of artistic works of musics and artists into the next two decades, and simultaneously destroy them. What... could it be?
Robin: The next two decades? He must mean, the 70's and 80's.
Batman: 80's you say? *pounds fist against palm* Cocaine! Riddler, you dastardly deviant!
Insert Zaps. Pows. Kablammos.
No really, I swear that was the episode. Really!
@baked ham: Ah, understandable. Portable Ops is a good PSP game though. It works well with the PSP, and the story is good.
Anyway, what's up with the reply thing? How come lately whenever someone rarely replies to me, it's not the normal method?! I must be cursed on this site. :(
@Michael McWhertor: You still had me excited. LOL. I was really hoping for a game with that title. At first, I thought it was like the earlier "Island of Rhodes" viral campaign they had to announce the demo.
Frank Gorshen (R.I.P.) FTMFW!
@Rurik: oh and its a sandbox game where at random intervals the world shakes and warps.
@Rurik: And there are no missions other than get to San Fran. and the map is full scale.
@ SAINT ANIMA: KOTAKU'S POETIC MASSACRE
I was thinking the same thing! Everytime I click the reply button by your name, and your name only, it sends me to the top of the page. Unable to reply the standard way. Very strange.
Riddle me this, Batman!
@baked ham: Its probably because Saint has a ":" in the name and the reply tries to add a ":" and it gets confused
@Witzbold: May he rest in peace.
What if Aftershock is Bioshock 2??? Anyone else think of that?
@CONFUSEDgam3r: I appreciate you pointing it out. I too was excited about a "game" that had such an interesting title! Alas...
@hawk3r: Sure, but Ubi has nothing to do with it. :)
Don't we want anything to be a surprise?
oh yeah....thats 2k....i lose
I hope it's a Batman game.
Batman + AC + R&C * FF = PERFECT GAME EVER!
No Beyond Good & Evil 2 on Ubi's side? Shame.
Aw crap @hawk3r: Aw crap you beat me to it. Aftershock would sound so much better than Bioshock II.
Best.Batman Movie.Ever.
(until TDK of course)
this article reminds me, ps2 was awesome for releasing new games, if they can keep that up hopefully i can get some use out of ps3. i say enough with sequels and more new games!
Oh god, I remember that movie.
I couldn't help but laugh.
