With the Game Developers Conference just a week away, we're expecting a few megaton bombs to drop, most likely in the form of big shooter announcements and hands-on time with games previously kept away from middling press types. Amid hints from Microsoft that it has one or two reveals still up its corporate sleeve has come chatter that Resident Evil 5 may become an Xbox 360 exclusive. The source? A GameStop listing that shows the title for the 360, but not for its other announced platform, the PlayStation 3. Not much to go on, considering the game has been announced as a multi-platform title months ago, but not out of the realm of possibility.
Curious, we asked Capcom Senior Director of Communications Chris Kramer about the speculation, who responded "Resident Evil 5 is coming for PS3 and 360."
We pointed out that online retailer Amazon has a similar hitch in the listing of the games, with the Xbox 360 version having a release date scheduled for October, but nothing for its PS3 counterpart. "We haven't given either retailer any new information on the game, so it's most likely hiccups in the system," he said "The goal is for both products to ship simultaneously, as [Devil May Cry] 4 just did."
It sounds a bit off the wall to us, but Microsoft has done an admirable job of securing exclusive content from Capcom in the past. Given Devil May Cry 4's impressive PlayStation 3 sales in Japan, it doesn't seem to make much financial sense, especially in light of the company's multi-platform focus. We're not quite ready to believe that Resident Evil 5 is dropping PS3 support, but we're certainly going to keep an eye on it.

Over rated series, you can't even shoot while moving.
It really depends. Did Gamespot and Amazon previously have listings for a PS3 version of the game and now don't or did they just add a 360 one. Because then the rumors have a bit more credibility.
Either way this game is at the top of my list. I have high expectations for it.
why would people even think so after dmc4? -.-
@TheEnd: And I hope they keep it that way.
Capcom screwing over the PS3? They'd never do such a thing!
@TheEnd: ok... Troll?
I hope they don't can it on the PS3.
It really doesnt make sense to make it 360 exclusive especially considering DMC4 on PS3 has so far outsold the 360 version 2:1
Non-story.
*sniff* Wii please.
Don't lie, you're gonna start boycotting Sony products aren't you?
If this becomes a 360 exclusive, I will freak out.
Capcom would be destroyed.
Even if it is a gimped version. I'm an RE whore :(
I don't believe it. It's just another stupid rumor.
Would you consider it "Admirable," or downright "Imperialistic?" Since when has it been "good" when large companies pay gobbs of money to secure content for a segment of a population?
boy with all this exclusive news happening i wonder what microsofts announcement will be.
merely speculative but man this hype machine is making me crazy
Just for those wondering. if you search Resident Evil 5 on Amazon, the first hit is the PS3 game. It just doesn't have pre-order info: [www.amazon.com]
Yeah, this one is a silly rumor, an Xbot's wet dream.
Where does Gamestop get this crap anyway? Seriously.
I really doubt this. Capcom doesn't seem interested in exclusivity at this point. Past 360 exclusives were mostly just because Sony took so long to get their PS3 shit together.
Makes no sense. If anything, it'll be a timed-exclusive, but even that's far-fetched. I mean look at DMC 4.
@DigitalHero:
anyone who uses the term "xbot" especially on a more "mature" based site like this, deserves to be smacked.
@TheEnd: That actually helps the tension, and I'm sure the reduced accuracy is far from worth it. It's a paced style of play, not Halo.
360 exclusive or not, I can't wait.
Well you have to think about Japan as well and how PS3 dominates the 360 there. RE has a large fanbase in Japan and it would basically screw all of them over.
Translation: "Seems like DMC4 is selling on PS3. We can make money there. Poo poo on you fanboy wars."
@REZBLUE:
Really. I'd like to see your source

Also more info:
Gamestop shows a shipment date of: May 5th 2009
Amazon: October 1st 2008
These retailers don't know shit as the release is a long time away. While I believe Capcom does have it out for the PS3, I don't think Microsoft is getting RE5 exclusively.
No way this would happen. Capcom you do this, there is no way i am buying another capcom product again!
if Capcom doesn't make it for PS3, i will shit bricks.
Clearly it's not true or Microsoft would have "accidentally" leaked it already.
@gamadaya:
Oh, didn't see the UK there. Still, I'd like to see your source.
I would rather get this on my PS3, but if it only comes out on xbox I'll get it on my 360 and have to block out the sound of jet plane sitting next to me during the suspenseful quiet moments.
@TheEnd: What a fitting name for your account.
Ok, just why on earth would they even consider canning the PS3 version. Especially after Resident Evil: Degeneration, the closest thing to a prequel of the RE5, is a Blu-ray exclusive. If anything people should be praying the 360 version isn't canned at the last minute.
@Lot krotan (wut?): very good call on putting mature in quotes ;)
"anyone who uses the term "xbot" especially on a more "mature" based site like this, deserves to be smacked."
@Lot krotan (wut?):
Threatening to smack someone doesn't make you sound any better tough guy. Don't bother posting here.
Capcom won't let it happen, DMC4 sold better on the PS3 than the 360 version in Japan, and RE5 will most likely sell better on the PS3 in Japan too... just saying.
I wouldn't be surprised if one or the other version got bumped off the main release date, but I think its crazy to think they would cancel the PS3 version, unless they just got back from the future and the PS3 crashes and burns later this year or something...;)
@Witzbold:
Dude, really? Good burn, but still... I love RE4, but I still agree that it would be much better if you could move while shooting.
@gamadaya:
I don't have any data on overall sales, but usually Amazon's betseller's list is a good indication of sales and the PS3 version is outselling the 360 version. The PS3 version is #36 on the chart, and the 360 version is #50.
Then you factor in Japan where it's definitely kicking the 360's ass and it wouldn't be shocking if it were outselling it. The UK is the 360's strongest area in PAL regions so that statistic doesn't surprise me. I bet more PS3 copies are being purchased in other regions of Europe though...
(again, no solid data)
Folks in Japan would be PISSED if it wasnt on the PS3 also.
@Lot krotan (wut?):
I'd also like to smack people who use M$. Yes, they make lots of money and that's all they care about. I get it.
OK, I don“t believe much in official announcements, but why should I believe in Amazon and Gamestop online stores "prerelease" lists more than the "Capcom Senior Director of Communications Chris Kramer"?
Aaah gamestop is clearly biased towards the 360. If you want proof, I'll do my best to provide my fake proof in the form of logic. 360 has achievements. With those, come the achievement whores. And the achievement whores will trade in games like their life depended on it because once they get all the achievements, they're done with the game (regardless of how much potential fun is left in it), and they trade in and get another game *used* (of course) so they can get another set of achievements. Continue this flipping into infinity. Trade in for used. Trade in for used. Gamestop likes this.
@gamadaya:
Don't piss off the internet tyrants. They bite. =P
Any chance this thing is shipping this year? I know 2009 was tossed around, but c'mon!
@ssjmichael:
Japan is at a 5:1 ration, with over 400000 for the PS3. I'd say that puts the PS3 version in the lead, but I don't know if it's 2:1. US hasn't released their chart yet, but I don't think the PS3 version will sell better than the 360 version here.
Over rated series, you can't even shoot while moving.
Dumbest Comment Ever?
@gamadaya:
/agree
@Witzbold: Yup, and Capcom would prett
