Lost Odyssey will be here in the States soon and GameTrailers has an exclusive trailer featuring some of the city environments. The graphics really look sharp and the city architecture is beautiful, but unfortunately it looks like they've at least partially stuck to that hideous beige and brown color scheme we see so much of in games these days. Hopefully this isn't a choice they've decided to stick with it for the better part of the game.

some parts are kinda choppy
I'm afraid of performance drops in this game
That's all CG =/
Also, why are they sailing away in a big shoe?
The big building in the middle of the city reminds me of the Iron shaped building in FLCL. Also I second the hopes that the other locales in the game are a little more colorful.
The part with the floating shoe looked a little more normal.
@Winterbringer: Good question. I'd choose a bowling pin, myself.
The giggling children and random crazy hobo mumblings were kind of creepy.
Do they speak Thai in that country?
At least the writing that appeared in the big screen looked pretty much like Thai language.
@Dudemeister: I too thought of FLCL.
I'd like to know just how much of those environments you can actually explore and interact with.
For me, interesting environments are an excellent part of a good rpg experience, but so often they are just pretty backgrounds with no interactivity blighted with stationary cameras that don't allow you to really look around. Eternal Sonata really comes to mind there.
I'm not sure why people are so quick to dismiss this game. Personally, it was one of the reasons I bought a 360, and I still think it looks amazing.
@Winterbringer: I thought so, too.
Ooh.. that building looked sidewides..
I wonder what language it was in the news report..
@Dudemeister: You know, I noticed that too.
CG, CG, CG. I'd love these to be ingame graphics.
What scares me is that there's no demo out yet.
@Dudemeister: Looks like everyone thought FLCL, 'cause I know I did.
BTW, isn't it a little late in the game to be releasing new trailers? I mean, the game comes out on Tuesday.
@CaptCaveman:
To me, demos are pointless for role playing games ... seeing as how they usually take up to 2 hours to even get good. I heard a rumor that this game doesn't even have 1 fight sequence in it, until 2 hours into the game.
@dead_red_eyes:
I'd have to disagree. Any good RPG demo is going to give the player a taste of the battle system and, honestly, if you don't enjoy the battle system, how are you going to be able to force yourself to play the game?
I'm looking forward to trying this game, and have been, since I first heard about it.
It will be in my grubby little paws a day or so after release. Thank you, Gamefly.
I'm excited about this game, but then again, I loved Blue Dragon. In BD, fun graphics, decent JRPG standard battles, and great character design (I love all of the robots) made up for a pretty basic storyline.
Without playing a really standout Final Fantasy since FFX, I'm looking forward to this. Though, Mistwalker seems very content to rest on the basis of all JRPG without trying to really break the mold.
@RandalGraves: Not EVERYONE thought of FLCL. I didn't... because I have no idea what FLCL is!
Lost Odyssey looks pretty cool. It'll be a good change of pace from all the JRPGs that feature children as the main characters.
Well that was a whole a lot of nothing, wasn't all that footage used in previous trailers? I certainly hope that they can afford someone with even the slightest skills of camera work and editing for their next project.
@iamnotdryad: Yes, battle system is huge part of those games, but it's not the reason people, or at least me, play those games. At least I have played through games that are practically half broken simply because other parts are excellent and enjoyable. Be it graphics, music, gameplay, story, characters, whatever. Excellency in any one of those can outweight flaws in others.
I wish I could play Japanese RPGs. I want the story but I just cant handle the battle system. Then again, the last japanese RPG i played was Pokemon Yellow. A friend gave me FFX so I may give that a go and see if I can handle it. If I can then I may have to play LO
I hope this game sells well over here. It looks like a good game, and so far the reviews here have been okay. I'm pretty sure I would enjoy it.
I don't care about a lot of the cynicism. I enjoyed this "trailer".
@ara: That's correct. I've played most of my RPGs just because of the story and/or characters. I'm not much of a grinder, so rarely do I enjoy battles (except for FFXII and FFT for the bounties and whatsoever).
Those citizens look like FFX citizens.
@MaximoSupino: Those are all definitely Hindi letters but it seems to be gibberish from what I can make of it. The giant shoe did look awesome though...
@ArmiMaan:

Fooly Cooly is a Japanese show on the Adult Swim lineup that features crazy nonsensical plot lines and sexually explicit humor about 14 year olds.
Its great. You should watch it some time.
You're all right: It makes one miss FLCL. *sigh*
It looked nice, but I share concerns that it looks pre-rendered and a little drab.
If this isn't GG, I don't know what I'll do.
It's going to be awesome.
@CaptCaveman:
There isn't going to be a demo. The only way you could get the japanese demo was via famitsu or some such nonsense. It wasn't released on the Live marketplace... ever I believe. Might be mistaken on this, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
Besides, the Blue Dragon demo was terrible, though the game was not. If they fracked up a demo for this one too it could easily hurt the game's sales, not help them.
@ara: Well if you can enjoy a good story the game is for you and hopefully will overset the oldschool tone it will give off with the other parts of the game itself.
Wow. Lost Odyssey, taking Brown, Beige, and Bloom to new heights!
I kid. I kid. It looks interesting, I'll probably pick it up when I finally cave and pay MS (again) to fix my 360.
Good stories are what Judas is all about.
Also: bewbs.
Don't you guys know? The future is brown.
@Aethyr: And bloom.
Hmm...
I hope this can get mistwalker a decent handhold in America.
Other than that, I'm not too sure about what I think about this game.
FFXII had an awesome battle system but the characters just didn't do it for me...I lost interest after a few hours which hasn't happened since FFIX. I forced myself to finish that one, but didn't care to do the same for FFXII.
I'm hoping that the story and characters will be engaging in LO. I'll even take a hit on the battle system if necessary.
@TheCleaningGuy: or is it foothold? eh, whatever.
I hope I'm wrong, but I can't see this game really selling well here.
I rather read a book, as suppose to reading a game. Thats my 2cent on this boring rpg.
@Gutzman: Wait until you experience the combat on random battles with long loadtimes before you call it awsome :)
Looks like a good game from the review gametrailers did of it, 5 different language options for voice overs 40 hours of gameplay spanning 4 dvd's. Makes me wish I had a 360.
@Irenicus-the one and only:
Good for you.
Perhaps, while you're reading, you might brush up on syntax, grammar and homonyms?
@LaserJudas: "Since you're so good at homonyms, what sounds almost like a dozen eggs?"
On a scale from 1 to "That trailer was totally awesome up until the scene with the boat that looked EXACTLY like a giant shoe", that trailer was totally awesome up until the scene with the boat that looked EXACTLY like a giant shoe.
DQVIII being my last full 3d JRPG run, I can't wait to smack this biznatch with a stick of ATB.
I'll see you guys in two weeks or so .
@Irenicus-the one and only:
Seems to me like you might not understand what a homonym is...
@MistryMan:
Agreed that's got to be Hindi.
@LaserJudas: "Might! is a 1995 album of Boyd Rice's NON."
@Irenicus-the one and only:
It's like talking to a bag of hair with you.
