Can you just not wait to play Grand Theft Auto IV? Well then we have just the thing for you. The game? No, no. Even better. The website about the game. Oh yes, my friends. The GTAIV website is up and running. The interactive Flash map of Liberty City looks like an interesting interface, but from my 3 minutes of hands-on, I'm not so sure all the bugs have been ironed out just yet. I tried slapping that bitch around but it didn't help...and now our monitor is all flickery.
Welcome to Liberty City [Rockstar]

My hype meter for this is so subdued. I'm still anticipating the game and will buy it day 1, but it's like the game has gone dark in comparison to the other releases they've done.
I have not for a game since phantasy star 2. everything about this is so exciting, and I amn not entirely sure why.
@Belain: I have not been so excited for a game since phatasy star 2, is what i meant to say.
Fandelicious! (trademark)
I shall check it out inmediately!
Is it just me or do the characters look really ugly?
I think the GTA IV delay from last year to this one is actually working in rockstar's favor.
Almost no competition at launch, more time to polish, and more time to build anticipation for the title. I can't wait to take on Liberty City all over again :-)
GTA, now with double the age verification.
"At least were not as racist as the midwest" Man, so many people will get pissed but its hilarious.
Flashtastic!
Seriously? I hate these sort of flash sites. And the site itself is so mellow it could be packaged along with the next Enya CD.
Everything is either failing to load or blanked out for Coming Soon. Damn the masses and their simultaneous connection!
For some reason there was something about the past GTA games that could never really hold me and I could never figure it out. My friend is a big fan and owns every GTA game they've made and I always try to play them at his house, or I'll borrow one and try to play it, but it was never something that pulled me in and made me want to continue playing, I always ended up quitting after about 5-7 hours or so.
Now with GTAIV though I'm really looking forward to playing it. I think it's more the graphics whore inside me is really excited about how good the game will look, but I think because of all the enhancements they'll be making due to the power of the new consoles it's really making me interested. Going in and out of buildings with no loads, the driving, the flying...everything just seems enhanced and I really want to give this game a spin. From what Rockstar has shown us so far, I'm excited, I really hope I can enjoy this game.
Love the headline ^_^
Sweet... I am hammering it now!
lol @ Sprunk.
Heavy duty soda. EXTREME Hydration.
Listening to the 360.ign Three Red Lights podcast, Hillary Goldstein talks a lot about how cinematic the game is. The main character shot someone, and it was a big deal. In a GTA GAME. That's hard to accomplish.
Apparently it also uses the Euphoria engine most recently demonstrated in that Force Unleashed video. At one point, your character rolls out of a car and right into oncoming traffic. He instinctively puts his hands up in anticipation of being hit. It's the little stuff like that that I'm looking forward to.
@Zhabin:
I keep feeling the same way, but I know I'll still end up quitting 5-7 hours in. I can't get into these sandbox games (unless you count Dead Rising -- which is my favorite game on the 360). I bought Crackdown about 2 months ago on some super-sale for $17.99, played for about 2 hours and have never put it back into my 360 again. I understand the appeal of these games completely. But the appeal just isn't appealing to me.
It's not interactive for me. All I see is just a skyline, but nothing else to do. Am I missing something?
Um, yeah the site is all dicked up. :/
This is the most excited i have been about a game. I literally know everything that they have released about the game. They better keep more tidbits coming out or ill die!
Finally, a true sequel. How many spin-offs had we faced since GTA3?
I found a fun "bug". Turn the bass up on your sub woofer, then hover the mouse courser over "Information" in the bottom left corner. Quickly move it to "Music" while hitting the rest of the options and back again. The sound overlaps and creates one heck of a vibration.
Yes, I'm totally bored.
Undefined? What?
I need some Hot Coffee...
I guess i will buy only to play online co op with people. Honestly i've been lying to myself and this game does look fun. I hope it doesn't fail in anyway especially with all the delays this game has had. hey but its no DNF.
Clicking on the skyline for me has a new screen appear.
Nothing much there though, but there are, I think, a few new screenshots.
Yeah, I'm getting so hyped on this game.
Can any of you guys see the dots on the map? All I get is Udefined and a blank map...
@Sloopydrew:
Yeah, that sucks. I was thinking of buying Crackdown too, my friend said it was a good game, but I played the demo and I just could not get into it. The weird thing is I think my brain just can't get into sandbox games, but I played The Godfather (Don's edition on PS3), and I played through that entire game (took 45 hours) and loved the motion controls they gave the game, so that makes me think my brain can get into sandbox games, but for some reason GTA and Crackdown just haven't appealed to me yet either. Sucks because I want to play them and enjoy them... =/
Tried it in firefox and only got an outline of the city, no images. Loaded it in IE and the interactive features sprung to life, pictures of characters and places and even a video advert for whizz wireless.
So I'm assuming that
Alderney = New Jersey
Algonquin = Manhatten
Broker = Brooklyn
Dukes = Queens
Bohan = Bronx
roughly
@Evilgeoff: Why? Is that part of the 50 Million that MS gave them? Do they really think that such a popular game could actually oust the supreme position of Firefox?!?!
(Clever bastards...)
The site doesn't work to well in firefox, but safari seems to do fine.
@Evilgeoff: To me, the dots fade out in IE too...
Multiplayer?
As someone said I think the delay did wonders :)
I just hope that the 360 and PS3 versions are the same in quality. Multiplats have been excellent lately in that respect, so maybe we've moved beyond that. The devs claim the two versions are on par, but why don't they ever throw in a PS3 version for preview?
The cynic in me is suspicious of the money MS gave Rockstar, I can imagine them putting an "exclusive previews" clause in there... a pretty smart move actually.
I don't care if either version has a slight graphical tweak, just as long as the core of the engine and framerate is optimum on both.
Oh and I am really excited about this game!
Overall map reminds me of Vice City, with a third island in the middle.
The map is nice and all, but none of the links on the left work. They all come up "undefined."
@havoks: Ah you want a game with beautiful people! People who say that beauty is only skin deep are usually ugly people.
"At least were not as racist as the Midwest" That was the first quote i see on the site. Wow this is going to be good. The site's music is beautiful.
lol. the site is cool. i'm going to pester my friend to latch the Manny video. Raggaeton for life <3
I really like how the game is looking now. Last year It was like "meh okay" now it's awesome.
Multiplayer 'Coming soon'?
I got the same quote, the official Seal of "Please Sue Me JT, I need free press"
Got it, fixed
GTAIV site is certainly up, but ain't running at top speed, not with these road blocks of UNDEFINED and all at every street corner.
It's not a stop sign, it's an undefined traffic sign. Utter chaos.
"At least were not as racist as the midwest". Its funny becouse its true. (At least here in Idaho.)
@sauvage: Are you calling me beautiful?
@elranchero69: Idaho isn't midwest.
@ sloner: your right but its close enough.
@Zhabin: Give Crackdown a try. I hated the demo as well but rented it on a whim and after a few hours of play, my life (outside of the game) seemed to dip to silence as I became obsessed with collecting those little orbs. The power-ups from the orbs made the game play so much more enjoyable. But I became a maniac trying to collect them all. Damn you, little orbs. God damn you!
Quite impressive content...
There are 3 new GTA4 videos on IGN today.
Doesn't work on Firefox for me either. (And I just found out that Adobe Flash doesn't work on 64-bit browsers O_o)
Wow, hope the game isn't as underwhelming as the website.
