I kind of like it. It has a Portal-esque feeling to it, mixed with Super Paper Mario or Crush's gameplay mechanics.

I played this game just yesterday!

It reminded me very much of a series of articles I remember seeing months ago... probably linked to from this website... about simple game ideas that the author decided to just put up for grabs. A few of those ideas all dealt with negative space, the way this game does.

I wish I could find those articles. Oh well. Cool game!

Wow, this is a great game. I love the primary game mechanic here. I hope they do more of this. "Shift-Esc" maybe.

Nice little game, although it took me an appalling 530 seconds to beat. It's certainly not the first to do the black and white areas thing, but a 'hot flash' all the same. Cheers Mark.

Hello, I made this game last week, and I'd really prefer if the link went to the game on the Armor Games homepage, since thats the site I actually work for/get paid by. And when you're pay is heavily dependent on Ad Revenue, it's disheartening to see another site get the visitors sent to them just for hosting the game, if the article could please be edited, that would be swell - cheers.

Without posting a website link, it is called squidi.net and according to his most recent journal entries his idea for Negative Space have been ripped off a total of three times now, Armor Games just decided to do it twice.

All times he has been given no credit for anything, even though it is related heavily to his idea.

@monkhino: Awfully vain the assume that, just because you posted something, you've been ripped off.

I just played this game 5 hours ago. I had to finish it before eating dinner. lol. Sure is fun.

@Moonshadow101: My apologies, it is only twice now, the first was done by Nitrome and many people come up with ideas, some take those ideas and make them into games first, like he wanted to do.

I am no master of judging whether he was ripped off, but he seems to think so. *shrugs* Still a good game, was a fun time to play and I am glad it was made.

I was having a good time but got stuck when I grabbed a key and a platform trapped me. No option to restart the level. Bleh!

Though I admit I played through it a second time to see if I could trick the last stage. Unfortunately the sidewall of the hole is impassable. D:

Squidi has definitely been taking the shaft, but honestly I don't know what he expects just putting out all his ideas and not trying to make any of them.

I came up with the idea for portal a few years back, so does that mean I should run around telling people that I should get credit for it? It sucks that they made it and did it right, sucks even more that Valve did it, with their crappy graphics engine. Of course, when I thought of it, I don't think it was possible to physically connect 2 spaces. Actually, come to think of it, Portal uses some trickery to make things work.

@monkhino: Well honestly, I've had an idea pretty close to this before, too. It's just that I'm not a programmer and I probably wouldn't be able to design a game even if I was. Although it didn't have the level-flipping thing, it just had the black-white dichotomy.

And of course, it wasn't original for me, either. I got the idea from that awesome episode of Samurai Jack. Anyone seen it?

What a horrible mashup of Portal and Art of Theft. The visual and game design is amazing, but the writing ruined it for me.

Awesome game, tons of fun. My time was like 700 seconds though. >.<;

I discovered a couple of bugs, both to do with platforms.

On my second time through, I hit a moving platform, and it stuck me inside another platform, and froze the game.

The third time, I landed on a platform immediately after it fell, and I died.

Pretty fun, but it seemed like the writers were trying too hard to be hip.

Interesting game. It was cool for a few minutes.

If you weren't involved in the concept, then there's no blame to be put on you--but Armor seems like a bunch of dicks considering what they did to him (almost hiring him).

I assure you, I was involved with every aspect of the concept, so all blame WOULD be on me, had I known anything to do with Sean or his hiring by Armor. The fact of the matter is, in the concept stage there was no influence on me by either Armor OR Sean. This could very quickly turn into a your word vs mine debate but you're not the person who I should be having that debate with - that person Sean, and I already have. If you'd be so kind as to visit his blog you'd find we have already discussed and resolved the issue, please keep up to date with the facts before throwing around accusations that are potentially damaging to my personal reputation.

Yes, I have recently learned (through his forums--not his blog, which has not been updated since the incident occurred) the circumstances of the incident and I personally apologize for my uninformed remarks. Having learned now that you intend to clarify the circumstances in your sequel, I think that's great, and look forward to seeing what you do with the concept.

So--just so we're good--I sincerely apologize for making an uninformed comment towards you, and believe that you shoulder no blame in the entire incident. I applaud you for (if you choose to follow his advice) both planning to innovate the concept in your sequel and for attempting to provide clarity to the situation. But anyway, I jumped to a conclusion, and that was not right of me. We good? :)

@the-exp: Wow, that's some potential drama. It is also immediately what I thought of when I saw the game (his game concept being similar to it), but I'm happy to see that (apparently) it is not as it seems!
