The latest issue of Famitsu, scheduled to hit newsstands on Friday, will scoop the official Street Fighter IV web site in revealing additions to the fighting game's cast of characters. Leaked scans of the newest issue have already hit 2ch, by way of Korean gaming site Ruliweb, showing off the original eight from Street Fighter II will return. Guile, Blanka, Zangief, Dhalsim, E. Honda and Chun-Li join Ken and Ryu, all of whom look very familiar—perhaps a bit too familiar.
While the gameplay shots are tiny, we get a look at Street Fighter IV's attention to detail. Touches like Dhalsim's bandages and bracelets spreading over the Indian fighter's stretched arms make 3D more welcome. We also get a chance to see newcomer Crimson Viper in-game, plus a peek at some familiar Street Fighter moves.
Four pages of pics are in the gallery below. Be sure to check them out full-sized.

I like the fact they keep it old-school.
Let's just hope it's innovative too.
<3 Chun Li's thighs!
Awesome! I believe that they will actually pull this off and deliver an awesome Street game. It's too bad Mortal Kombat when down the drains after 4... Maybe Mortal Kombat will make a comeback?
Nah!
@animation-imp: "Innovative" is absolutely a must at this point. The SF2 roster isn't going to be all that interesting if it's just SF2 in 3D. I'm pretty down about the game's place in the timeline and the way Ono seems to be banking on nostalgia to sell a thrillion (a very exciting number, I might add) copies. However, even from those tiny shots, it's easy to see that the game looks a lot better from the proper perspective.
I haven't seen enough to make me really enthusiastic about this yet, but I'm still hoping for the best. Something interesting. Crimson Viper sure as hell isn't that thing, but hey, we've got a long way to go before we see the final product.
Dhalsim returns! But so do the turkey legs that haunt me so.
(heh, the spell check thought I meant "Falsies" for Dhalsim)
Will they make another 2D sprite-based game after III, though? :[ (in terms of storyline)
It's nice to see the classics are back, I hope they updated their moves a little.
P.S. Where's my Cammy?
@Giolon:
I hate them :(
She's so unsexy
PLEASE BRING BACK Q!!!
good to have classic fighters. i dont care for sagat/balrog(us) but would like bison and vega.
i wont mind cammy, fei long, and if i had to pick some from SF3, it would be Yun/Yang, Hugo and Urien (just because of his name).
@Giolon: Oh sweet baby jesus. Those thighs are what Wet Nightmares are made of. =p~
Yay! Pre-liposuction imposter Ryu is back!
I really like the look of this game.
Welcome back guys, welcome back!
woo-hoo! the original elite eight are back!!!
@leblackdragon: I wish. But since the game takes place between 2 and 3, chances are good that we won't see many, if any SF3 characters. And if they did put Q in, they'd probably try to give him a story and... well, that's just not right!
I guess the majority of comments people are making all over prove that Capcom made the right decision, though. Everybody just wants to play the same shit over again, so why bother with a dramatic new roster anyway? :\
@animation-imp: I absolutely agree. Although I liked the idea of a SF2.5, it'd be nice to have some really new stuff in it.
And Chun Li looks as hot as ever. Watch her doing the KiKoKen.
One of the beautiful about main Street Fighter games (1,2,3) is we DON'T see many familiar faces throughout each iteration. But since the dramatic roster overhaul in SF3 was panned by many fans during its initial release, it's no surprise Capcom is staying with good old reliables. I just hope the amount of new fighters outweigh the old in SF4. Don't hate seeing old favorites, but I want to have new favorites as well.
Other than that, I'm liking the progress being made; even if those shots are small. Also, Ikeno's artwork of the classic fighters is cool.
@shrewd: Story...Street Fighter..? Wut.
Dang Chun, someone needs to go to Lane Bryant.
@leblackdragon: Very unlikely to happen, considering the game takes place between II and III - and there's no word if any Street Fighter III characters will even make the cut.
So the question is, what about the characters from Turbo? Are Balrog, Vega, Bison and Sagat showing up?
Aghh..wth is honda wearing shorts??
wow, amazing the in-game shots look like still paintings @___@
What the
[kotaku.com]
Bottom panels - Ryu STOLE Ryo Sakazaki's Tenchi Ha Oh Ken!
Those thighs! Those THIGHS!
So Street Fighter IV takes place between 2 and 3 and also is a mix of 2D and 3D...
Wut.
Also is anyone else surprised at how freakin huge Zangief is?! Maybe it's just the 3D but... goddam.
@Dave Silva:
The flash from the punch also makes it look like a Zanretsuken. The posture's all wrong though. :x
@Dudemeister: Hey, you try having good posture when you're built like these guys. But no, this appears to be the "saving" attack they were talking about.
as long as i get at least a dozen new characters they can go ahead and fetishize SFII characters all they want!
@Dave Silva: Yuri Sakazaki parodies Ryu's Shin Shoryuken with her Shin Chou Upper. SNK and Capcom have borrowed character moves from each other for years. Not sure if this is the case, but it damn sure looks like it.
Hmm, I like the tiny pictures of the character models, but I feel a strong desire to hurt whoever drew that picture of Chun-Li.
We definately need some SF III or even Alpha Characters in IV...
COME BACK DAN!
Must...see...high-res in game shot of Chun Li
Chun-li's thighs are hot, anyway, who's that person that she's fighting against her screen. Does not look like Crimson Viper. Is that the "other" person Capcom was talking about they were going to reveal this Friday?
Gee. Big whoop. This is ending up more like a new "Street Fighter II". Not what I would expect from a "4". The 8 original characters? They look exactly the same. Mind you, the graphics are beautiful, and the 3D looks great, but the character design is identical. I decry weak sauce.
Let's see some character development. Age these fighters. We're 17 years older, they should be, too. And I'm hoping for more, original characters. With better names than "Crimson Viper". Stooopid.
@rzac30: In the top picture on the page her art is on? That's definitely Crimson Viper.
@HighlanderWolf: Go play Street Fighter III then. I'll gladly take these fighters.
"Leaked scans of the newest issue have already hit 2ch, by way of Korean gaming site Ruliweb..."
Just a note, you got that backwards. Ruliweb got the scans from the Street Fighter IV 2ch thread.
@diablofreak: M. Bison (Vega) won't be back, I'm pretty sure, canonically, he was officially killed off at the end of SFII by Akuma (Gouki). Vega (Balrog), Sagat, and Balrog (M.Bison) all seem like good bets. I'll be happy with just Vega, though, he's always been a favorite.
I'd love to see some of the SFI characters pop up, too.
@HighlanderWolf: C. Viper fits right in with E. Honda, T. Hawk, M. Bison, and R. Mika, if you ask me.
Holy crap, I thought those huge pants she was wearing were just baggy, but it turns out they're literally bulging with leg blubber!
Right, judging from the katakana written for E. Honda's name it is "Edmund", or 'edomundo'. I never knew that!
I assume when they say it's "2.5D" or whatever that this is going to be like the original DOA? You can't sidestep and the fighting is essentially the same as a 2D fighter except sometimes when you throw someone you throw them to the side and the perspective shifts so you're at a different angle but still fighting in 2D?
I guess if Smash Bros, Tekken and Soul Calibur can get away with recycling/slightly updating a lot of their rosters, so can SF2. Making them look EXACTLY like 3D versions of how they were in SF2, though? That's lazy. I mean, the illustrations at least show a different style, but then they seem to disregard that for the actual game. Look at Zangief's illustration compared to his in-game sprite.
Not that it doesn't all look GOOD. 'Cause it does. I guess there's still the possibility that different costumes will be actually-different costumes instead of just color changes.
Chun-Li's thighs...in 2.5 or 3d, I don't care...I WANTS IT!!!!!!
Still doesn't look anywhere near as good as SFIII. Does anyone know if you can play SFIII:3rd Strike for Xbox1 on the Xbox360 over XBLive?
man, im starting to come to grips with the new look and all.. .i mean it is the epic "4." but really.. i think 4 shouldnt take place in between games.. thats really starting to bug me being someone thats a big fan of the story. i mean, i just dont see them pulling this off without messing up some of the facts from III. i think they should have made a 2d game that was in between 2 and 3 called street fighter omega or something, and also worked on a street fighter IV that was a continuation. ah well....
@ cybereality:
Yeah, you still can. Anyway, no one seems to mention how uninspiring the fighting system is. That's my biggest complaint. WTF, No Air Blocking and No type of counter system....Damn, Capcom, put more thought into the engine. Not asking for 3rd Strike, just asking for something good.
In other classic fighter news, SNK and Taito will be (finally) unveiling a video of The King of Fighters XII at the AOU Show next week.
What am sick of, when it comes to SF, is the retro peeps, which doesn't mean every retro person..., that complain about SF4s grafiks and that they look "to new", or whatever. Its like they cant handle that it doesn't look just like SF3 Third Strike...
It would not be SF4 if it looked and played like a SF3 TS clone "you" morons. Be happy something -fresh- is coming to 1on1 2d fighting games.
