Want to see what Wii owners in Europe and Japan are missing out on, in terms of flowing rivers of blood, decapitations and amputations? Then watch xserothx's No More Heroes Death Scene Comparison clips for a study in regional censorship. This is grisly stuff, folks, and not for the faint of heart of virtual murder. Anyone wary of spoilers should skip 'em, as they're essentially every boss fight in the game.

I find this ironic, since AoC just received its censorship [ratings] ... and they are allowing full gore in all of Europe, accept Germany of course!
[forums.ageofconan.com]
Man...those cinematic bits loose a lot without anything happening. They were MEANT to have blood fountains.
Its a shame they have to censor some of the gruesome and possibly best portions of the game. The graphics are quite unique for the wii. I can't wait to get my hands on No more heroes....wish i had the cash for it.
:(
...Holy shit, I'm going out to buy this game once I get the money. That was friggin awesome.
Dude that sucks. The country of origin doesn't even the unneutered version? Damn. I hate censorship.
Do the Euros still have the mountain of coins that follow every henchmen death?
That kind of reminded me of Mortal Kombat's Fatalities.
SO MUCH BLOOD
There are no words to describe how pissed off excessive gore and excessive censoring makes me feel.
Spoilers?
I'm gonna get the game and live blogging my first playthrough of it from start to finish one of these days if anyone's interested in watching.
@Green-clad Gamer Dude: It's actually the very first boss fight, and it happens within 20 minutes of the games beginning.
I heard tell that the Euro and Japanese version has sex in it though. Can anyone confirm?
The worst offenders are Holly Summers and Destroyman.
@Furious_Liver:
I had the exact same reaction. Nothing has sold me on the game thus far and the somewhat mixed reviews didn't help. Then I watch that video and the blood lust begins. Gonna definitely be picking this one up.
Now you folks know the kind of bullshit I had to put up with while playing the neutered version of the game.
Wonder if it will piss Lucas Arts off for the lightsaber look and sound ... lol
I blame the drought of blood donors for this censorship!
Don't get me wrong I'll get the game, but I'll shead a tear each time i kill something, and cry each time i see a cutscene.
@benjaminby:
Japan have a weird culture. With all their weird fetishes and hobby japanese have, but they are culturely repressed as a whole.
They have censorship on porn and violence more than most of other countries in Asia.
I guess when you suppress something long enough, it just erupts that's probably what caused all those weird sex fetishes and weird porno...
@Witzbold: I strongly salute you. A censored NMH is a bad NMH.
@JeffPaine: DESTROY CANNON!
@Witzbold: yea that s_cks so much...
Wow, a Wii game without bunnies and cooking muffins :O
This game does indeed demand blood. It was made for it, and shying away from it really detracts from the game's impact.
I do find it a fascinating example of cultural oddities, though. As per the usual generalizations, it's fine for American media to have copious amounts of gore, but if there's any naughty bits, Jesus will come to your house and eat your kneecaps. Anywhere else, it's fine, though.
Granted, there is a bit of sexuality in all releases of No More Heroes, but nothing outside of the norm for these kind of games.
It *is* a fun game, though. I've loved it, so far. Nothing like mowing a lawn for cash and then vertically bisecting a random enemy afterwards.
After watching the Speed Buster censored death for the first time, I can honestly say the censored version is better, with it going slow-motion and following the pair of glasses falling. It just looks stupid in the US version with the camera angle moving for no apparent reason.
@Green-clad Gamer Dude: if it helps, that's the first level boss.
man, the rest of you guys got gypped.
I cannot WAIT for this game to show up here (thanks Canada!).
@Furious_Liver: @Sloopydrew: that's what got you two to give it a go? you guys are so weird.
Im still sad that holly summers dies. She has got to be one of my fav vid game chicks ever. D:::::::
I have weird tastes in women you must excuse me.

@elocanth: Exactly. The impact is robbed from the game without the blood. Its part of the whole package and what makes it memorable. Imagine the kill bill restaurant fight scene with 0 blood.
No wonder this game didn't sell in Japan. This doesn't make any sense. I recently watched the anime "Elfen Lied" whose opening scene includes a floating naked woman telekinetically decapitating and dismembering hordes of armed guards for like 5 minutes straight, and that was shown on TV in japan, probably in a primetime slot no less. How is this game any different? Are there different standards for TV and Video Games in Japan?
@TheIrishNinja: Nono, it was that PLUS the dialogue.
"Extraordinary...The moment I've been waiting for...The name...Holy Sword...is now yours..."
"You're joking right? I don't care about titles or power, I just want to be number one" (LOL!)
"Then master the ways of the Assassin-"
"HERES YOUR TICKET TO PARADISE YOU *chopsoffhead* OLD MAN."
FUCKING
AWESOME.
@Witzbold: ...YOU BASTARD, I WAS JUST ABOUT TO BUY THIS GAME. T__T DON'T READ THAT COMMENT! >:O
@WallaJoy- I has a bucket.:
@TheIrishNinja:
Ok, thx. Had seen this part on Youtube.
I almost like it without the blood... Too bad it's censored, that I'm not ok with. It's like saying this game isn't good enough for our console, or saying our buyers are pussy's.
How the hell is something like this suppost to look good?
(spoiler) [www.youtube.com] (spoiler)
So ... one sucks, one's awesome? I would never, ever buy the censored version.
@Maniclysane:
I'd agree with the no blood statement if they replaced it with something else. I think it'd be awesome if a Royal Rainbow spouted out of someone's neck stump after a decapitation.
@Green-clad Gamer Dude: "Anyone wary of spoilers should skip 'em, as they're essentially every boss fight in the game."

I still really don't understand why these versions were cropped. The gore is SO over the top, fake, and stylized that it really isn't more offensive than your run of the mill military shooter. The language, on the other hand, is a bit risque...but THAT wasn't censored.
I try, but I can't get over how shitty the graphics are in this game.
This game is great. Witz it's funny you should mention Kill Bill. Because when playing this game I could definitly see a Kill Bill influence. I of course have the uncensored version. And the blood just adds a different dimension to it. Mainly in the cut scenes, when hack away at a boss and there' blood going which way. Or pouring out of their stomaches for their last dialogue.
All in all I'd encourage, most gamers to at least PLAY or try the game. It was a no brain purchase for me. And right up there with one of my most memorable Wii experiences.
Wii-mote cell phone calls FTW!!!
Travis Touchdown is the @#%ing man!
@elocanth: Or a flock of pink butterflies!
@ThisCharmingMan: Seriously eh? Its about the same as the stuff in the movie battle royale here. So I dont see why they felt the need to censor it for here. :x
@Furious_Liver:
"If challenge was a taste, you'd be quite delicious."
The quote from the game I've heard going around...
@argh:
Wow I really dug the graphics. I like the style approach they took. It looks a lot better in the first person I think than on youtube. I'm assuming if you've never seen it running for yourself.
My only gripes is the game IS DARK AS ISHT!!! But it's solid. Good beat em up for the Wii.
Could this be why the game didn't sell well in Japan? Who wanted to see a artist's castrated vision?
Oh, and I wonder how the CHILDREN will grow up when they play this on their toy Wii...
I love this game. I just finished the Holly Summers fight.
Seriously, I love this game.
Well, at least every portion that isn't free-roaming. That freaking motorcycle may look awesome, but it controls like ass.
Not gonna watch this as I'm still working through the game (I'm #8 right now) and I don't want spoilers, but its been nothing but awesome so far. I think the blood isn't probably needed to enjoy it, but it does suck that they took it out.
@Green-clad Gamer Dude:
This game has numerous quotes. You have to see the cutscenes and get the context for what's beeing said.
There's every boss fight brings it's unique dialogue, flavor. But the last boss interaction is just nutso.
@ idrisz: @ elocanth: In porn? Hah, not at all. Though other countries ofen think Americas perverted, it's not true. Japans almost as perverse as France!
@JeffPaine: The odd camera angle movement you saw in Speed Busters death was actually the viewpoint she sees during her death. It's was a popular cinematic technique used in samurai films.
