Capcom's Lost Planet Colonies, trademarked by the publisher last Spring, has just been rated by the ESRB with a T rating for the Xbox 360 and PC. That's right, PlayStation 3 owners, you may have to settle for the port of the former 360 exclusive for the time being. Even though Capcom has made no definitive announcements about a follow up to the original Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, execs have said "there will be more on Lost Planet for sure."
When contacted for comment, Capcom reps simply replied "Stay Tuned." Well, to be perfectly precise, they replied "stay_tuned.jpg." With GDC and a Capcom Gamers Day coming soon, we won't be surprised when Capcom announces something about Colonies.

Ugh, PS3 gets shafted again. =( Stop it, developers.
I wish the PS3 could get more notice... It has so much more potential then the other consoles.
Im still curious as to what this game is going to be about.
Capcom Gamer Day? Mr. McWhertor when is that going down / where?
I know I could use the almightly google but Id rather ask my good friend. :D
@Maniclysane: Give it time. Since blu-ray seems to be on top for the time being more devs will slowly start comming back to the PS3. But its going to take a while to get used to working with it in terms of coding and such. Kinda like with the PS2 at start.
Granted its been a little over a year since its been released, but back then devs still didnt know what to make of the systems rocky start.
Looks like another 360 exclusive. Get both systems people.
@DigitalHero: Lets always ignore the PC huh?
@DigitalHero: Already own both, but I'd like it for PS3 since I know my PS3 most likely won't kick the bucket.
Well luckily my psii 360 vista can play all games
Capcom screwing over the PS3? Well that's new..............
@DigitalHero: Getting both core consoles costs 700 bucks. That's a lot, not to mention getting games for both, seeing as some games could be shared.
@Witzbold: Yeah, the next Console Sony makes might fill in the gap, since people notice the strength of Blu ray. On top of that, Blu Ray won't cost as much, and they could sell it at a more competetive price.
Doesn't the ESRB have to actually play the game to rate it? I thought these days they have to be given access to the whole game including secrets to ensure there's no hot coffee hidden in there. So does that mean the game is mostly written or just that I'm wrong about how ESRB rate games?
Also: FUCK CAPCOM
yeah right like i'm gonna waste time on a console that is 90% guns. maybe i'll get it for ps3... maybe.
@Maniclysane: Im a PS3 owner too so I really would like more devs to get back on the wagon and make us games.
@Kyle81: Its funny how the PC version of LP had cooler stuff than the 360 one. Then again if they had not done that I dont think many folks would have bought the PC one anyways.
@DigitalHero: Not everyone likes to spend $1000 for a couple of game systems, but I'm sure there's no trouble in spending about $700 for a computer that plays most every game this gen and more.
Also, I've considered getting Lost Planet for my PC ( actually a Mac :O ), but I'm not so sure how it is. Can anyone tell me whether it's better or worse than the 360 version?
Meh. I thought Lost Planet was mediocre at best, so I'm not that interested on this one either. And anyone who only owns a PS3, I don't think you'd be missing much if this game wouldn't have made it to the PS3.
Im tired of capcom's endless shafting of the ps3. They take away monster hunter to put it on the wii and then when everyone gets pissed off one of the execs smugly says "Wait till they here our announcement next week." As if it was going to be something mind blowing. Oh guess what youre getting a crapppy port of a crappy 360 game! IS YOUR MIND BLOWN! LOST PLANET FOOLS! Thanks capcom you suck.
For some reason, I'm picturing a combination of Lost Planet and Mass Effect just from the title of the game.
@photoboy: From what I gather, they only need a video showing the game's content. All of it.
@Yeux de nouilles: The PC version is a bit of a performance hog, but it plays fine if you have a high spec rig. The 360 version runs near perfectly though, except for some quite noticable visual tearing. =(
Interesting how the tides are turning - I'd have expected this thread to already be full of "PS3 SUX" comments. Looks like a ton of people getting one for Xmas has changed things for the better a bit.
@Yeux de nouilles: Mon Dieu! Thats some goddamned fine photoshopping there!
@sycodude:
Amen
@DigitalHero: PS3 + PC > PS3 + 360
That being said, I was pretty underwhelmed by the first game (but maybe I'm just getting tired of killing generic space grunts and generic space bugs).
Lost planet is easily the worst game i've played on my 360 yet. Great graphics, but the gameplay was just terrible.
@Yeux de nouilles:
"but I'm sure there's no trouble in spending about $700 for a computer that plays most every game this gen and more."
I love the PC platform but you cannot say "every game this gen". There are a ton of games that will never go PC justifying the purchase of a console platform.
Ace Combat 6
Eternal Sonata
Genji
LAIR
Folklore
Ratchet and Clank: Future - Tools of Destruction
Uncharted
Burnout Paradise
Super Mario Galaxy
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Paper Mario
TUROK
Blue Dragon
Resistance: Fall of Man
No More Heroes
The list goes on and on.
Lost planet??for ps3
Better port it next year because this year with mgs4/resistance2/killzone2 it wont survive....
But i guess Capcom knows that :)
@smitty1123:
"PS3 + PC > PS3 + 360"
I own all those, what is your point?
@akwinters: I handle Bioshock fine at max settings (XP), so I suppose it'd be fine. I think Circuit City was selling it for about $24.99 the other week.
@Witzbold: Merci, monsieur.
@multimoog: While I'd love to say that, I'd hate for Gradius VI to be made for it and me someday buying a PS3 to play it. :(
@DigitalHero: Bingo. You want the most bang for your bucks, you need at least two platforms (and personally, I'd say the ideal setup would be PC, PS3 and Wii). Granted, it's not cheap, but that 's what they make Ramen Noodles for...
@photoboy: I believe I heard they do not play the games but documents covering all the content, gameplay, scenes, etc is submitted for them to review.
Hot Coffee as I recall was not included in the submitted evidence.
I could be completely wrong.
@DigitalHero: "Most every," meaning not all but a fairly large chunk.
Yeah, the Wii will have plenty of exclusives which is the only reason that I bought it. It's getting mostly PS2 ports and minigames for now, but there will be some games that take advantage of the control sceheme and can't easily be ported (if at all)... eventually.
But from what I'm seeing the 360 and PS3 don't really have any exclusives that appeal to me, and most of the great titles are available for $10 less on PC.
Also, Super Paper Mario is horrible. :(
I gotta finish the first game, I think i'm on mission 9, at the giant bug boss. Last time I remember playing it, I was just standing under the bug while it tried to kill me and I couldn't seem to hurt it. I stopped playing and never loaded it again.
@Yeux de nouilles: Yeah, you should be good to go if you can run BioShock. Might want to try the demo first, though. It's on Steam, and as a standalone file on a few of those file dumps like FilePlanet.
From what I gather, Capcom have made a few patches and optimized it a little bit, so you should get slightly better performance than what the demo gives you.
@Yeux de nouilles: True that. It had a couple perks, but when you turned 3d, the land was so barren. Some of the game seemed tedious too, and putting the Pure Hearts in the towers was god awful. I got lost most of the time, and it took me longer than you could imagine to find Flopside. The original Paper Mario was almost perfect. I could go on, but that probably wouldn't benefit what's going on for the topic.
@Yeux de nouilles:
The Kotaku motto (visible at the top of this page) is:
"Gossip, news and leaks for obsessive gamers."
To me, an obsessive gamer is someone that is going to get all the systems regardless of cost. I mean seriously, I know crack addicts that complain less about the cost of 8-ball on a Friday night...
Another win for the 360
Well, the 360 was the house that Capcom built. It's pretty much assumed that 360 owners are going to buy a Capcom game. Lost Planet Chronicles and Dead Rising 2 are pretty much a given for the 360.
@The Konamunist: obsessive, not wealthy
@DigitalHero: Yeah, LAIR!!!
@The Konamunist: Then again, the crackhead probably isn't going to be getting cocaine and pot as well. Now figure out which drug stands for which system!
@DigitalHero: As opposed to getting a PS3 and a 360 (as you suggested), I think a person would be better off just having a PC and a PS3.
Honest question for you though (since you have all three). Why did you get a 360 if you had a PC?
/really, I'm not being facetious or trying to be a dick, I'm genuinely curious.
@The Konamunist:
All the systems regardless of cost? Guess I'm not obsessive enough because I don't have $500 just lay around that can be spent on a PS3 instead of something more useful like food or gas to get to school each day.
I clearly fail.
@DigitalHero: really lair? i'm a sony fanboy and i can defend that game. the others on the other and are alllllriiiiight
@fragdurarsh: PSWii60 flows better IMO.
How is Capcom going to confirm the development on crappy Lost Planet 2 before Dead Rising 2?
@DigitalHero
Lair, seriously? Come on, man. I'm on your side in the argument but... come on :|
@smitty1123:
"Honest question for you though (since you have all three). Why did you get a 360 if you had a PC?
/really, I'm not being facetious or trying to be a dick, I'm genuinely curious. "
Reasons:
1. There are titles that will never go to PC. (Eternal Sonata, Ace Combat 6, Blue Dragon Lost Odyssey)
2. Xbox 360 gets titles much earlier than PC. (Gears of War is a good example. Halo 3 hasn't even been announced for PC same with Grand Theft Auto IV)
3. I own a PC due to exclusives it has that won't come to console (more than likely). (Starcraft II, WoW, Counterstrike: Source)
If you have the money to spend, why not own all the platforms?
Haha Lair. That game is a disgrace, factor 5 should be punished for creating that monstrosity (no pun intended)The worst part was instead of admitting the controls sucked and trying to implement dual analog controls through firmware they went on the attack even claiming their scheme was better than warhawk's because warhawk "forces" motion control down your throat! Which is inaccurate on plenty of levels.
they'll port it in a year just like the first. that way they don't have to get the shitty press of delays.
@iamnotdryad:
I clearly fail.
Well, at least you admit it :P
