Vroom vroom! Just on the heels of the Haruhi Suzumiya PS2 game, comes this: The Haruhi model Mazada RX-7. The car is an itasha (sticker-covered car) covered with Haruhi decals. Just on sale, the 1/24 scale model has already sold out at numerous Akihabara retailers. No surprises there!

haruhi is commercial gold, in japan anyway :D
I still dont understand this...is she from an anime or something? Why is this person so popular?
@PaddyStardust: It sure must be hard, not knowing how to use Google.
Come on, Ashcraft. You truly must get this Haruhi obcession of yours treated. It's cutting into your everyday work.
@SBB: why would he google when lots of people could just simply tell him, then get pissed at him for not knowing like everyone else does. at least, thats what i do >.>
@Ashurahori: I don't think you understand the significance of Haruhi: it is not an obsession, it is a religion!
@Ashurahori:
Hey man! This is the first Haruhi post I've done all week!!
Haruhi just rocks! I would buy that car if I could. But I don't really know why I like Haruhy that much..the Anime was....well...special.. Maybe because I like the Haruhy-Dance!
痛車!
Man, why don't they just stick a Haruhi stencil on a dildo, mass market the thing and get it over with? It's on the way, I know it is, and I just wan't to see it on sale so I can say "Yes, I called that."
A Haruhi model AE86 would sell more.
@SBB: Just think.. if you would have answered him correctly at the top you could of saved hundreds of people from going to google and wasting time... You get what you give congrats.
I was left wondering what the hell this had to do with games.
Here I am, thinking..."yeah, perhaps they've gone and done a decent Auto Modellista"...
...turns out, it's just one man's unhealthy obsession.
*goes back to a very lonesome Armored Core PSP session*
I ask myself "Does a Mazada has anything to do with Haruhi?" (besides slapping Haruhi stickers on it?) Does she drive? No... does she drive in the PS2 game? Maybe?? Anyway, couldn't you buy a sticker set and another itasha and get the same experience? It's all about the money I guess... ah, whatever, I give up. Oh, and I rather have 600 Haruhi posts than 1 IDOLM@STER post.
This is like you would report that there's a new model car that has "the bold and the beutiful" on it.
@Pylon_trooper: Got to be more than just one man if they already sold out (in akiba)...
@PaddyStardust: Ok here's the helpful, Google-free answer. (1) Yes she is from an anime. (2) Who knows? Why is anything popular? Maybe because it has a great, well-animated dance routine in the show's ending sequence... which for some reason ashcraft hasn't posted yet this week... I'm missing it. :(
@Brian Ashcraft: the week that just started?
@PaddyStardust: She's god. Or a temporal anomaly. Or the next leap in evolution. Or something else. Also, she's a complete tsundere who sexually harasses other girls and changes her clothes without a single care as to whether or not there are guys in the room. Oh, and then there's the bunny suit...
i lol at bashcraft's haruhi obsession ;o just wait till haruhi season 2 comes out. Watch him post recaps of each weekly episode :P
@quen: Aha, I see. I'm sorta at work, and you know how these things can get a bit NSFW sometimes, didn't wanna trap myself. Plus, Google is run by the Man, and the Man can feed you lies, wheras the friendly natives of Kotakuland are usually a bit more informed.
Microsoft should get a "Haruhi Bundle" for the 360. That will surely jump up the sales!
mmm.... I would like to see that model in GT5, I HOPE there is some kind of paint work in GT5, that would really rock.
Haruhiism?
A religion? NEVAR!
like people would worship such entity of written fiction by unknown individuals, you should try a REAL religion, like one that isn't from second-hand written accounts by mortals! like Chri...no wait. i meant like Isla...no. I mean Buddis.....er....Shint....
i give up.
ALL HAIL GODDESS HARUHI!!! And Saint YUKI!!!
...AND THE WII!!!
AWESOME!
Is everyone aware what the Japanese text on the cover means?
涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱
Enjoy the evening cool, shrine/temple/prince (sumiya)
haruhi's
despair (yuu-utsu)
And then at the top right:
痛車
Pain car
This is weird even for Japanese.
@JDavis: LOL, didnt know the show could be capped off in a paragraph.
@Atheist Jew: Wouldn't the Haruhi demographic be more interested in a Haruhi Fleshlight (with extra tight super happy funtime lolicon socket™)?
more and more, it looks like the solution to any console sales problem is to make a H-ism version.
Ditto for hoping this car makes it into GT5.
Err... It's Mazda?
@shikaningen: Its not weird, you just dont get the cultural references.
Time to make a replica of this in FM2 and re-enact some mad tyte JDM Intial Dorifutos.
Gah! I want it! Damn sellouts!
And it's 'Mazda' Bash, not Mazada :(
@JDavis: *adds Haruhi to top of Netflix queue*
They have Itasha model cars, now?
@shikaningen:
I would not try to literally translate 涼宮, it is just a name. (Possibly made up, but Suzumiya sounds pretty close to be a Japanese last name to me.)

I do not understand how our girl Haruhi could possibly be experiencing any 憂鬱 at all if she is driving the best RX-7 ever made :P I guess maybe her "depression" results from her car insurance rates? The fact I do not have such a car is 僕の憂鬱. Seeing RX-7s such as this and real MR-2s (not the MR-S) was one of the best parts of being in Japan.
The car is called "Pain car"...
Aside: Haruhi is porn for people too embarrassed to own porn.
Haruists unite! I wanna get one now
Takahashi Keisuke will try one of these... LOL
I just finished watching the anime. Now I know why people go nuts over this girl honestly. THat would be a sweet model to own, I wonder much it is
mmmm mazda
hm Pain car, why would they call it that?
RX-7?, hmm, .
They should just have gone with the iconic R34.
@zerokoolpsx: 'Cause alot of Otaku like to cover the outside and inside of their cars with aanime/manga merchandise stickers, models, plushies, even those life size blow up dolls, and, well they're just painful to look at.

Link to buy? I've already blown $200+ on only the two Limited Edition games, and that's not counting the LE American DVDs.
Oddly, I haven't bought any stand-alone toys and figures yet (sans the LE stuff), so this might be the first.

Never mind. Found a link, and it was hobbylinkjapan, silly me, should've done that in the first place.
Maybe not painful to look at, but just embarrassing... -ly painful. Oh well.
Man, its been a while since ive done a car kit (last one was the R32).
Im sure you got some Toyota and Nissan fans that are like "WAIT WHAT, WE WANT HARUHI ON OUR CARS, WHY DOES MAZDA GET EVERYTHING"
Dont get me wrong, i like mazdas. Shoot, my 323DX was my first car i bought. God i miss that thing...
@zerokoolpsx: Because its painful to look at.
RX7's for life, bitches!!!
FD's are nice, but I still love my FC >)
