This week has been a rocky road for those looking for an unspoiled Super Smash Bros. Brawl experience. Just prior to the game's official release in Japan, the full details of Brawl's roster, its bosses, its numerous stages were all revealed by those who got their hands on it early. Even on the official Brawl web site, the Smash Bros. Dojo, producer Masahiro Sakurai has begun to reveal the game's hidden fighters. If you're the least bit concerned about that, it's time to move into the bunker.
But for those looking to relish in every detail, every screen shot, every word from Sakurai, savor the Dojo Dump. We've only got two more months together.
Monday: The Vault is for obsessive collector types, like yours truly, who like to pore over their virtual stuff. Time in the Vault is time you'll want on your death bed!
Tuesday: For an exhaustive list of the initially available tunes in Brawl, check out First Song in My Music
Wednesday: For a straight up primer on the Brawl portion of the game, read up.
Thursday: Sakurai warns about Future Updates, which should last for the next two months and feature plenty of spoiler-filled info. An Intro Movie that helps explain the numerous game modes is added.
Friday: The first official unlockable character is profiled. If you want to know who that is, click the ?????.

OH MY GOD!
Ness is going to be a playable character?!?!!?
If I hadn't known that since SSB One, I would be stunned.
The dojo should just end now.
There's nothing left to say.
Oh Kirby, they tried so hard to make this Spoiler Free. Just because your heightened mind powers allowed you to deduce it, why spoil it for us lesser mammals?
Not even two months! Just a mere 37 days!
@Kirbytheslayer: The Dojo should've ended a long time ago, but Nintendo has a policy of beating dead horses and franchises until they've run out of milk and blood. Ok that was a terrible mixed metaphor(s), but I think it accurately describes the signs of our times.
ohhhh how I wish mega man was really playable... :'(
that guy as an unlockable character is pretty lame. It should be someone we never see coming.
@Islandkiwi: Oh, come on. If you're in a bunker, you can't read Kotaku. McWhertor advised people who don't want to be spoiled to enter a bunker.
@Kirbytheslayer: Thinks AAA is a great term: There was a reason there was a ???? censoring the name. You jagasp.
@Islandkiwi: Cmon' it's Ness.
Friggin' Ness. He's been a Staple Character of the series. It's like predicting that Mario is going to be a playable Character.
Who's stunned?
@Kirbytheslayer: Thinks AAA is a great term:
As a matter of fact that is a pretty big surprise seeing as Lucas was supposed to be the Ness replacement. Not many people thought he would return seeing as he was only in the game in the first place to promote Earthbound back in the day.
Dojo won't end. In fact I am glad it won't because it is going to tell you how to unlock the secret characters. I don't know about you, but I want all characters unlocked as soon as possible once I get it so I can start getting good for tournaments and such.
@Krytha: I like horses with milk inside.
@Ghede: I don't know what jagasp is, but that sounds insulting.
I think future posts showing unlockable characters here shouldn't do the ??? thingy, cuz theres no way anyone who checks out video game sites will be able to not find out the secret characters by march 9th, anyway.
@Kirbytheslayer: Thinks AAA is a great term:
Well, I've never played any of the other SSBB's before, it's all new to me. And I'm not personally offended because of that.
But when the story says hit the link if you want to know, what does that tell you? Tells me not to spoil it for others.
Hmm, guess it's cool that Ness made it in after all. Sakurai even described the main differences between him and Lucas for us. Now people can argue how different the clones are this time around and how they stay similar.
Did anyone else think NiGHTS might've been in it? I got that impression way back when Sakurai released the list of composers. It's kind of annoying that none of the hidden characters are third party.
It is kind of nice that they are going to continue the daily updates on the Dojo until the U.S. release.
Someone made a video of all the final smashes and they all look pretty neat or cool (pick an overused adjective) other than Peach's (hers is kind of sad...).
@Kirbytheslayer: Thinks AAA is a great term: The point is your post, especially being the first, contradicts the article's intention of keeping it spoiler free.
Micheal: "Click the ?????? if you want to know who the newly confirmed character is."
Kirby: "HEY EVERYBODY IT'S NESS, DURRRRR"
I don't really care, but I'm just pointing it out.
Not everyone reads the comments.
I don't know why someone would hit the jump for Dojo Dump updates and be surprised at seeing a new character revealed. I don't see anything wrong with what Kirby did. If someone doesn't want to see who the new character is then they shouldn't have gone past the main page, simple as that.
Hey, I thought it was nice how he went in-depth, told us how to unlock the character, and explained his differences from Lucas. Hopefully he'll tell how to unlock all the characters and go as in-depth as he did with Ness. Heck, he said he'd talk about hidden levels too, so maybe he'll be telling us how to unlock those too.
LOL @ Kirby!
@Krytha: God forbid they try to do something nice for us and post updates completely of their own accord. They should have stopped being nice and giving out 100% official info straight from the creator. I hate nice things.
I want the Dojo to end, not because I don't like it, but because I want Sakurai to get to work on his next game. CHOP CHOP BUDDY MAKE SOME GAMES
The guy created Kirby at age 22. I'm a failure :(
@Islandkiwi: If you don't mind my asking, how old are you? You musta still been quite young when Melee came out in 2001. Or it just goes to show us how poorly the GameCube sold...
Oh a little off topic, but I realized that Since SSBB uses different friends codes than the original Wii Friend's codes then shouldn't our profile have a "SSBB Friend Code" place?
Nowadays it has become really hard to avoid spoilers for a game, and even movies and other stuff. I really like to read magazines and look at internet sites that talk about video games, but for a while now I have decided to avoid any detailed info about a game I'm excited about.
One game I really want to play is Mario Galaxy, so I ended up avoiding all the reviews except for the scores it got, and took a look a just a few screenshots.
In a sense it is good that all this info is being provided for the people that want to see it, but for those that want to experience everything fresh and by themselves there is no other option than having some self control. So look away now, look away!
@NeoAkira: Heh, probably.
@Nintenboy01:
I'm 35, and I had a Gamecube....but I didn't get SSBB. My wife played on the Gamecube way more than I did, and for her it was Animal Crossing all the way. So let's call it a missed opportunity.
@Masterpain22: To be honest Mario Galaxy has no real spoilers at all. Just about all the story events are pretty cliche and expected. You really play that game for the experience and fun gameplay mainly. No spoiler can really interfere with that (except maybe boss battle strategies).
@Dr Mario: How was he put in the game to promote earthbound when earthbound came out years earlier?
@Islandkiwi: Good gravy! And I'm only 23. My apologies if I offended you in any way.
I am so damn excited for this game. I just now got a pc card for my laptop, so i've missed out on alot of videos. Wow...I just cant wait for this! it comes out 7 days before my bday...who's buying it for me?
@Sinnbox:
Because earth bound had absolutely no popularity, like Fire Emblem. And so having a character from the series in a super popular game made interest about the series peak.
@Nintenboy01:
No offense taken. And although I haven't played any of the earlier iterations, it does my heart good to see so much excitement about a game. I'll definitely be playing this one.
@NeoAkira: True, putting him in may have made inteest in the series peak, but I thin kthey put him in for the few earthbound fans. Why would they want interest to peak when they werent going to release any earthbound games at the time?
Earthbound has always had a cult following in the west, even before the first smash.
I have a feeling that the Dojo is going to be much more to my liking from now on. Not that I didn't like it before though.
ness=meh
Does anyone know if you can play as Ike in his Lord outfit instead of the Ranger costume?
I wonder how long it'll take to find and do absolutely everything in Brawl.
@Sinnbox:
Also a valid point. Where is my Earthbound game Nintendo?
@Krytha: I'll disagree with you, but from a business point of view. As far as marketing the game is concerned, the Dojo has been an absolute triumph. If you look at it's traffic ratings, it has to have one of the highest (if not the highest) rankings of any individual video game site to have existed. Even at its peak, Halo 3's website didn't even come close.
When a single game's website can garner more attention than either of its parent sites (Nintendo.com and Wii.com, in this case), that means that there is a lot of (relatively) inexpensive advertising going on, building a lot of excitement. And in an age where hype is key for sales, that is a good thing indeed.
@Krytha: As I see it, Sakurai is building a guide for the game, like an online strategy guide. Sure, he could reveal everything all at once, but that would just spoil everything all at once and that would suck (in my opinion). Plus, it is good for building up hype for those territories where the game has not yet been released, I guess.
So Lucas is a palette swap. Wonderful. Why even put him in the damn game. They should've just had him be an alternate costume for Ness.
I also LOVE Sakurai's:
"However, Smash won't come out in North America for a bit and sadly, Europe has an even longer wait until the game releases."
He just went and rubbed that shit right in. As if I wasn't already on the verge of doing a Britney Spears when I first heard about the European delay.
@Random J:
Becauae alternate costumes don't affect movesets. It's similar to making Luigi his on character instead of an alt.costume. The moves are similar but function differently. They even outline this in the dojo.
I think continuing the updates is excellent. A free online strategy guide including names of moves and fighting strategies.
If KIRBYTHESLAYER: THINKS AAA IS A GREAT TERM doesn't get banned than that's bull. Spoiled right off the bat.
They even have the same Final Smash? They should have had different final smashes for any clones. At least that...
@Kirbytheslayer: Thinks AAA is a great term: Mario is a playable character???
@Tzero7: Now now...you're spoiling the game! Gosh...thats major spoilage! I need a warning before reading that!
@Superstar90 lieks mudkipz: Well, the color of the storm is different. I guess that makes it TOTALLY different to them!
