Electronic Arts confirmed today that gamers who currently find themselves without a copy of Rock Band, due to either console allegiance or geography, finally have hope. The European market is scheduled to get the game in some form within the first quarter of EA's financial year, which translates to an April to June 2008 time frame. Execs said that the title would ship in the region "across all SKUs."
In addition to the European release of both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, a Wii version of Rock Band has been finally confirmed. While such a product has been discussed by EA and Harmonix in the past, official word that it should ship this year hadn't yet come.

Will it be stripped of world tour mode and character creation like the Ps2 version?
Really. this is a real question.
I'm sure no one saw that coming.
If only there was a clue of some kind...
EA is gonna delay Rock Band in Europe just like every other game they make or publish in eveyr corner of the world.
@Kirbytheslayer: Thinks AAA is a great term: it was? that sucks.
bad enough to be cut off from all the DLC, though i wonder if EA's interested in selling separate discs of it? i mean, once the wii has a HDD or something.
still, its cool to see more people get a chance at an awesome game.
YES! Although I'm on the fence between buying Rock Band or GH3, so I'll have to figure that out by the time this comes out.
Took them long enough to announce it. Although it doesn't matter to me, I already have it on 360.
Eh, I got sick of waiting for a Wii version so I bought a 360. Yay!
I totally saw this coming. Put your product out on more platforms = more money.
FUCK
THIS
Crap, i just sent this news to Kotaku. I finish sending the email and refresh the page and its already posted. too little too late i guess :-(
@Luke Plunkett:
Why?
I'm shocked. They'd honestly be foolish not to put it on Wii.
Finally, I've been waintin for a "Wii will rock you" pun in the posts for a while now, so where is it?
@NeoAkira: They're both good games, but given how the Wii remote works with GH3 I'm not sure Rock Band is going to do anything similar - so there's no saying that the GH3 controller will work with Rock Band, if that influences you at all.
Sounds good, now all the people that went crazy and spent 2X retail on the Wii at christmas can go out and buy a $200 on a game. Oh to have money to spend on stuff that will be woth half as much in a year....
Hopefully, in the future, Wii owners won't have to wait a few months after the official release of each game to actually get it - not that I'm complainin' or nuthin'.
I don't really care, no one to play with anyway =s
@Luke Plunkett: How mature of you.
Everyone should enjoy the awesomeness of this game. Even self centered allegiance whores.
The game is just that good!
@MidnightScott17: The game is still very fun single player, unlike many "party" games.
Ugh, why?
Rock Band's DLC is actually... desirable.
@NeoAkira: Easy choice. Rock Band. GH3 blows.
I'm just wondering if the Wii version of Rock Band will have the fully-featured version (360, PS3) or the inferior PS2 version.
Maybe Europe will get Rock Band on the Wii in 2009 then...
Is there a link to the confirmation?
*crossesfingers*
Here's to hoping that its compatible with the GH3 Les Paul. After playing Rock Band a friend's house, I have to say I'm not a fan of the Strat's strum bar. While quieter, it doesn't feel responsive enough for me.
Okay now I need a date, confirmation that the ION will be available for the Wii and the same DLC. I am very happy about this, but these questions worry me.
I think the GH3 guitar I have is the best so I want to get Rock Band on the Wii. Yet the ION drum kit and DLC make me think 360 is the way to go.
I cannot afford the 360 and Rock Band right now.
I have never owned a Guitar Hero or Rock Band game (since I don't own a PS or the 360), and decided to skip over GH III for the Wii for Rock Band...I'm glad it's coming.
Hmm, so to buy GH3 on the Wii now that the disks have been fixed, or wait for Rock Band?
@Lemming To The Sea:
I got bored of Guitar Hero III even by myself. Guess I just like Ouendan too much ;o
@Green-clad Gamer Dude:
Rock Band all the way.
As soon as I picked up Rock Band, the day it came out, I never wanted to play GH3 again. Got rid of GH3 since then.
@Kirbytheslayer: Thinks AAA is a great term:
I've got a bad feeling that it'll be the case ... But if it's not, it will be a guaranteed buy for me !
I suppose if you only have a Wii waiting for this is wise.
Link plz?
It would also be nice to know if it's going to be a port of the ps2 version or the 360 version, and if/how it will handle dlc.
@MidnightScott17: I get bored of GH3, too.
Not too much of a fan of Ouendan, though.
@Chucklestyle: They didn't release any details besides that it's coming.
I was really holding out for this announcement so that I'd have a reason not to get Guitar Hero 3. Since the delay has been so long Wii had better get some of the DLC of the past few months PREINSTALLED.
Sure, Jukebox Hero is an awesome song, I just don't wanna pay extra for it. Or wait 9 months until Nintendo has a viable 3rd party online format set up.
Shweet. As long as it's not TOO downgraded from the 360/PS3 version, I'm in.
@Kirbytheslayer: Thinks AAA is a great term: Yeah, that's my big question, too. I'd have already bought the PS2 version if not for that.
Any idea when Europe'll be getting the Wii version?
This is good news for European PS3/360 owners, or for American Wii owners. But I'm a European Wii owner (for now), so I'm feeling a little non-plussed by this otherwise fantastic news.
I'm praying this means that the DLC content will be on Wii, hell even just the songs up to this point pre-installed will be fine, but I doubt it.
Wii version is going to have character creation unfortunately it will be rocking out with your Mii's. Rock Band with out the DLC TLC seems kind of pointless to me.
@Kirbytheslayer: Thinks AAA is a great term: That would be my biggest concern. If, however, Activision wasn't blowing smoke about the whole downloadable content thing for GH3 on the Wii, I doubt EA would forfit all that potential profit solely to them and they'd at least come out with a decent version.
@EnigmaNemesis: Agreed, I haven't touched GH III since Rock Band has been released, although I have picked up the Red Octane controller. I'm in the can't stand the Rock Band guitar camp.
As I remember it from interviews, Harmonix didn't want to put Rock Band on the Wii until they had found a way to do downloadable content.
I'm thinking they have.
Wii + DLC + Online= DOES NOT COMPUTE!!! *Explodes*
Woohoo, Wii version! I hope the GH3 controller will be compatible ...
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LET THE CONTROLS BE WIRELESS!!!
You can't imagine the tangle mess of cables we have to connect and people have to avoid when we are playing Rock Band in my friends house...that is my main concern in all honesty, that the controls are all wireless and not connected via USB.
Then I can worry about DLC and still waiting for the promise that GH III would have them after 'new years'...still waiting :(
ive been waiting for this day for so long.....*sniff* and it has finally come?
YAAAAAAYYYY! LET US REJOYCE WII OWNERS! WE DONT SUCK AS MUCH AS WE USED T0!!!
@lolToasty: Hates his username: Me too. Expect I still have yet to buy Rock Band. Either way, the 360 Rock Band's online is obviously the best way to go, screw the Wii version and its lateness.
@daknight: Meh. Everything'll probably hook up to Wii remotes.
SSBB has given me hope for DLC on Rock Band Wii. You can save extras to an SD card and grab from it! Doesn't really need a HDD with functionality like that!

@eggmanimn,
I hope you're right.
Why all the GH3 hate? It's a good game minus some songs that aren't particularly fun, which is just the same as Rock Band. They're both good games. I'd especially recommend getting it if the GH controllers work with RB, as a Rock Band Guitar costs as much as freaking GH3 does with a guitar... almost.
Awesome, But Im planning to buy a Ps3 so I may get it for the Ps3 due to the fact that it has downloadeble content and the Wii version may be like the Ps2 version, I don't know now :(
@Saxboy: I don't hate GH3 really I don't, I think it's a good game for what it is, single player trying to beat your best high score. Something akin to the 80's arcades which I love. I will say though I think I would give Neversoft a B- on their first outing with it. I get a little bit of slow down with my star power and the difficulty curve at the end went from 0-60 faster than a Gizmondo executive.
I would like it more if DLC was inluded on-disk instead of having to be bought over Wii-fi. Just seems easier to me.
@TalKeaton: Well, that is cool with me since that will still make them wireless (like the GH III guitar, it uses the Wiimote and it does it prefectly)
Though that means is going to be one hell of an expensive game if EVERY control uses a wiimote...for someone that only has 2 or even 1 wiimote O_O Yeah, I don't think they'll go that route...I hope.
@Luke Plunkett: Indeed!
Our little backwards country means we'll never get to rock out...
@Saxboy: Wireless Strat is $10 less than the Les Paul. So, the Rock Band wireless guitar is actually cheaper.
Rock Band is awesome. Guitar Hero II is awesome. Guitar Hero 3 isn't awesome. It's merely OK.
@Moonshadow101:
i love Rock Band's DLC. I just downloaded "Wonderwall" and "all the small things" today.
they've got a pretty good variety of songs to choose from, which is nice. now please, can we get some old Green Day on there?
