Hey, is that Mario Kart Wii final box art? Maybe! It seems to have all of its facts straight, now that the Mario Kart Wii title has dropped its "tentative" moniker and that the ESRB has given it an "E" rating. The logo is certainly different than the one shown in Nintendo's own press room, but we're willing to let that slide in our evaluation of box art authenticity. Then again, it's box art, so who ultimately cares at this point if it's legit? Kidding, of course, as box art is serious business.
We're certainly down with the rumored look and feel, but that packaging to accomodate a Wii Wheel that we don't really want or need seems a bit excessive.
Fake or True? [Nintenerds]

I...can't...WAIT!
This should be fun
I really hope that steering whell decreases the number of snakers.
Even though I can do it myself, it's still an unfair advantage for those that can't. Regardless, that box looks sweet... if real.
Terrifying, truly...
In before "FIRST PARTY SUCKS!" or related comments with other words instead of "First Party."
Wonder Woman let the Mario Bros. borrow her Invisible car?
Remember PC game boxes from back in the day?
You don't see white dog shit any more etc.
umm isn't that the wheel that came with excitetruck?
I doubt it's real...it's seems too Wiiy. [I would italisice too, but don't know html...]. I think that the game will pack in a standard case, with separate wheel shell box. And kick some serious ass.
I'm sorry, but that is some ugly box art.
If it is authentic, then it's either a mock-up by Nintendo or a placeholder by same. I call bullocks, on the basis that:
1) It's not very indicitive of the gameplay, especially notable since Nintendo is mining new markets
2) It's old art
3) The game hasn't got a release date or (to my knowledge) an ESRB rating.
I hope the motion steering controls are good enough that they warrant the need for the steering wheel attatchment.
@featherblade360: there was a wheel with excite truck? not my version.
it's shopped.
Yay, more peripherals. I'm getting tired of the massive amounts of useless plastic that are being strapped onto the Wiimotes to 'enhance' the game.
This coming from a dude who stood out in the cold for launch day.
I can't believe this made Kotaku.. It's obviously fake...
I never played Excitetruck so I don't know what it feels like, but I have to say that I can't imagine completely motion controlled steering feeling too great. Am I worrying over nothing?
The wheel appears to have buttons on the back. Was this previously known?
I don't know why everybody's down on the Wii Wheel. Having played Excite Truck (which didn't come with a wheel, by the way), I'm glad they'll have something that'll make it a bit more comfortable to hold the Wii-mote. For some reason, my left hand was rubbed raw by the B-button area of the remote. Mostly from flicking the remote to do those air-spins.
@Torgen thinks AAA has lost all meaning: Scratch that, it looks like the B button poking through the frame.
Please, for collector's sake, make the game in a standard case and not a paper sleeve, like Wii sports and Link's Crossbow Training are...
@Torgen thinks AAA has lost all meaning: On _even_closer_ inspection it looks like a button that just presses the real B button, and not a 'new' button as such.
Oh Noes! Should have posted a spoilers warning! Nintendo Fanatics are gonna freak! =P haha
@Soralinkyuna: I picked up a box of 100 white DVD cases for exactly that reason. Most of 'em are gone - everyone needs a Wii Sports case, it seems. And I know a lotta people with Wiis.
I can't wait for this game! At least the wii wheel wil be good when I play against my family.
@featherblade360: Im not sure if Exite Truck had a wheel. Although GT Pro Series had one and so did some other games some were made of cheap plastic and others inflatable. I think the Nintendo one is gonna be way better quality then the other ones.
The free wheel thing has been on the EBgames site for at least a week. I bet the art changes, but the free wheel is legit.
@Torgen thinks AAA has lost all meaning:
I think the back is just cut away so the B button comes through. So, it still appears to be just a useless hunk of plastic.
Want the game, the wheel... not so much. :/
@Soralinkyuna:
seconded, my ocd kicks into overdrive and i can't see straight when i see those paper sleeves...nintendo, please respect us collector nerds ocd or i might have a lawsuit on my hands!
Hopefully the steering wheel doesn't suck ass. I can't use it for Excite Truck at all.
I wonder if we can buy the game WITHOUT the wheel? I really don't have any use for it.
Wow those wheel's make me not want to play!!! I'm guessing peoples arms wll tire quickly. Give me A GC controler
Is Mario cutting Luigi off? Why does Mario always have to be such a dick to Luigi?
@BauerStyle:
Well, if this box is to be believed, the game has a full case too. Check the upper right corner.
When you play Wii, rest your elbow or wrist on your knee. If your arms still get tired, maybe you need to buy Wii Fit.
@Archaotic: I Think that is a Disk going into a Wii.
@slacker164: The button on the back is a different shape from the wiimote's own B button.
@Sinnbox: Hum, if you play it with a GC controller, isn't it just Mario Kart Double Dash?
@notalkjustrock: I don't play wii yet. I have a 360. it just loks tiring.
@Tonx: Same here. I been making Wii Sport label on R1800 for my friends and co-workers.
Let's set the record straight. A wheel came bundled with GT Pro Series and Offroad 4x4 Extreme at or just after launch. The wheel and game in both cases were 49.99. The wheel is quite comfortable and does make it more enjoyable, after getting used to it I couldn't race without it on the remote, it is too bad bad GT Pro sucked. And can we stop complaining about something you are getting for FREE? if you don't want it, you don't have to use it.
@Torgen thinks AAA has lost all meaning: It is actually a toggle that hits the B button on the Wii-mote. Given the horrid design of the Wii Zapper I can only imagine how bad this button will work on it's own.
@interstate78: I wasn't a fan of Double Dash i do have it, but 64 is my all time fave Mario Kart. To mee all the cheap plastic things to stick my controller into seems lame, I would rather have a real wheel with force feedback. My walmart was trying to sell stearing wheels with mario kart and Lamburgini in teh 64 days, and no one wanted to use one.
@notalkjustrock: cuz he's older than luigi.....DUH!! :D
when is this coming out?!
If that is the box art then that is pretty crappy =s
@SINNBOX right on brother. i think they should go ssbb on this and make the controller business customizable. cause i really... just am not excited about the prospect of steering via wiimote.
that box shouts "im fake" !
If the Wheel pack-in causes the game to cost more, I'm not picking up a copy. That simple.
@Krondonian: Here's an ultimate Ninja secret. I don't share a lot of 'em. Treasure it.
To italicize words:
1. Hit <
2. Hit i
3. Hit >
Repeat, with a slash before the eye added in, afterwards.
see what I did there?
(See what I did there?-The Kotaku Catchprhase!)
Hmmm...if the controls are anything like excite truck I'm going to be immediately reaching for my gamecube controller. GC controls are going to be supported right?
@Archaotic: I would presume with the way Nintendo went with releasing Link's Crossbow Training, this is the only way the game will come. But then again, Link's Crossbow's gaming experience is very shallow compared to Mario Kart's playability factor. Anything is possible at this point. Thus far, major retailers are packaging the two together for the price of $50 (in the U.S. at least). Having the accessory packaged in with the game seems to have no real cost on the consumer unless the price is going to be upped before release...
@Kirbytheslayer: Has an Update button now!: sweet. now my head hurts. (scratches head in confusion)
