The latest Official Xbox Magazine lays out Rock Band's DLC for the month of March. Sadly, and this is getting more than a little annoying, there's still no album downloads. What we do get is a bunch of guitar-happy tracks from the likes of Metallica, Iron Maiden, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Black Sabbath. All of which are bands the game already features. And half of those are covers. Oh well.
March 4 - Thrash Pack
At The Gates: Blinded By Fear
Evile: Thrashes
The Haunted: Shadow World
March 11
Bad Company: Shooting Star (COVER)
Lynyrd Skynyrd: Simple Man
The Police: Message in a Bottle
March 18 - NIN Pack
Nine Inch Nails: March of the Pigs
Nine Inch Nails: The Collector
Nine Inch Nails: The Perfect Drug
March 25 - Metal Pack
Iron Maiden: Wrathchild (COVER)
Black Sabbath: Supernaut (COVER)
Metallica: Fuel
Look, metal is great, don't get me wrong. But "Fuel"? And more Iron Maiden and Sabbath covers? Some metal-based variety (Slayer, Mastodon, Anthrax) would be swell about now, thanks.
[thanks everyone who sent this in!]

oooh NIN.. i want those!
Fuel?! At least it wasn't St. Anger. No doubt that's coming in April *sigh*
Uh, At the Gates isn't thrash, either. And I'd much rather see some Testament than any Slayer in either of these games. Disciples of the Watch, plz.
I believe the metal variety you speak of is the March 4 pack, At the Gates and the Haunted are personal favorites of mine. Never heard of Evile though, those songs are probably more metal than some would be used to.
Needs more RUSH. But with the real RUSH and not the crappy cover guy who can't sing.
I'd have to admit I don't have a great grasp or knowledge of the tracks in Rock Band asides from the more commercial tracks from that 90's to now.
Rock Band is great and all.. But as a young professional whom doesn't have a great grasp of most of the music, catering to this more casual crowd of gamers looking for more pop music is great..
It'd be nostalgic and a great thing to do to keep things interesting for us.. I'd be looking for the more mainstream stuff for DLC.
I'm not a huge fan of either, but in terms of playability, music I am more familiar with serves a better purpose than music I am finding difficult to become accustomed too. Not sure if many others of you feel the same way.. But I'm certainly looking forward to more pussy-pop music from groups such as Third Eye Blind, Our Lady Peace, Green Day and such than more Black Sabbath, etc..
I say this with no disrespect to the classics.. Just merely a connection thing with the player, and I'm saying I'd feel more connected and would enjoy the game more with this stuff.
Wru Angel of Death? The Haunted (by Testament, you know, the good band), hell, any Testament. S.S.C by Anthrax maybe? And please, dear lord, no more covers; they are just awful.
These full albums are starting to smell more and more like vaporware as time goes on.
@Hedgemo: Agreed. Where the fuck is Who's Next?
it's almost like their trying to advoid "singles" from the albums which is more widely heard then other songs from the albums. I don't listen to NIN but i could easly name a single from them faster then i could these songs i've never heard. and yes @nimagraven: more Rush is needed hell they could go all hippie on us too like put up Abba songs :p or hell put up as many songs from bands that played at Woodstock
@Hedgemo: they aren't vaporware! they are coming like Duke Nukem Forever! they just need polish!...or maybe a UE3 License to get them b/c UE3 allows you to be god like Black and White
My girlfriend is going to absolutely love the fact that they have Bad Company. I know the song is going to be stupidly easy, but augh, women.
The Bowie covers were a real travesty.
Come on admit it, judging by a post xmas stroll through williamsburg brooklyn and seeing all the rock band boxes in trash cans there are some people out there dying for more indie rock up on this shit.
I say more classic rock, but good classic rock. the 60s and 70s are way too underrepresented in this. Mid 90s rock is far too overrepresented and i say that as someone who was a teen then. Variety is what we need.
I have a sad feeling that rock band 2 is going to be the game i really wanted.
Oohh... I love me some metal!
More variety is nice, but they have 3 new metal bands to go with the 3 they've done before, I'm happy.
NIN pack, awesome!
As for the Thrash pack... when are we going to get some Megadeth or Anthrax?
@Bleentastic:
Hahaha, so true.
Maybe they will come through somehow and put out a real "Thrash pack" of albums.
Anthrax - Spreading the Disease
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Testament - The Legacy
Metallica - Kill 'Em All
Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast
A guy can dream, can't he?
message in a bottle, fuel, and anything by nine inch nails. especially older shit, so im happy here: that's as close to pretty hate machine as weve gotten so far.
@Bleentastic: Two of those NIN songs were big hit singles. I don't know about The Collector, though.
Fuel is pumpin' engines! haha
People still play guitar hero?
I would like some mastadon, Against me, saves the day, more yeah yeah yeahs, Refused, maybe some AFI, the Cars, and maybe some heavy stuff as well.
I will buy the NIN pack though.
I'm going to be optimistic and hope the albums start in February.
Looks like the bulk of March is going to involve slamming the strum bar up and down really fast, which isn't fun at all. This weeks songs were all a blast to play; can we stick with the melodic songs?
@Hedgemo: The New Order and Practice What You Preach are better than the Legacy. The Gathering is too, but that isn't strictly thrash, so I'll let it slide.
Hey! I LOVE Fuel! That song rocks. Sure, it's probably about NASCAR, but I ask not for what the song rocks--it rocks for ME.
Also...is Just Like You Imagined in Rock Band?
What's the rush? I'm just happy they're still putting up songs.
March of the Pigs is going to break my frickin' wrists!
Neat! Totally purchasing that NIN pack once it comes out :)
How about a nice Rush pack
Xanadu
The Camera Eye
In the End
It'd be nice to see some other bands though. Demons & Wizards would be a nice addition. I'm still hoping that maybe Amon Amarth will make it in at some point... not going to wait on it though =(
Why oh why is this not out over here?! I want the NIN pack to play March of the Pigs on drums! :-(
Where is Feb list of DLC? Hopefully there will be some actual songs that I really want. More then likely we'll be getting the month of Covers......
How about instead of the already in-the DLC, and game baby-metal, and your recommended baby-metal, we get some REAL metal, black epic viking metal.
Falkenbach. Forefather. Something grand and great like that would be awesome.
Know what song would be fun? 'Beer' by Reel Big Fish. Fun guitar, fun drums, fun lyrics.
"Fuel?" is actually what came out when i read that. This always happens. Whne ever metallica songs are mentioned i expect a classic awesome song but i get fuel.....or some other bad songs i can't remember.
@otimus:
Lumsk would be sweet too. Any good death metal would be too finger blistering
i cant wait for march. that first week is absolutely amazing.
NINE INCH NAILS OH MY GOD YES.
All well and good, but I still can't buy the bastarding game yet. When is it being released in Europe??
"The Perfect Drug?" Really? Much as I like the song, I think "Head Like a Hole" would've been a better track for all four players.
(Of course, I haven't heard TPD in a while, but I don't remember it having too much in the way of guitar/bass.)
Meh, March 11th has the only content that interests me somewhat.
@LoopyChew: I agree that Head Like a Hole would be an excellent choice (as would many other NiN songs please Harmonix :D :D) but Perfect Drug is a fine choice for the game. The guitar/bass parts are repetitive but vocals and drums should be excellent. Then again, the song is very synth-heavy, I kinda hope they move some of that over to the instruments available.
Oh I am buying the NIN pack for sure. I will likely buy Fuel and maybe Message in a Bottle.
If I had Rock Band, I would so get Message in a Bottle.
Covers are gehy
the NIN pack looks cool... the rest of it not so much
@K-Squad! (Badass Edition): Everyone in Europe and Australia do seeing as Rock Band still isn't out yet.
NIN pack? Sold.
Sure the NIN pack is good, but I'm holding out for the Sunn 0))) pack. bwah ha ha
@Hedgemo:
I'd actually kill to get my hands on either 'The Legacy' or 'The Ritual'...or maybe just 'Return to Serenity' from The Ritual.
On topic...the March 11 pack seems interesting.
I'm a big NIN fan, and that download pack will be a must-buy (at least, once I get Rock Band, which should be by mid-March), but don't they edit all the songs to be T-rating friendly? Perfect Drug, not a problem. I'm pretty sure The Collector was relatively radio-friendly. But March of the Pigs? If I can't sing - and be told to sing - "I want to smash it up, I want to f*** it up," what's the point?
I want some punk, but I can't complain about these tracks. Message in a Bottle is my favorite song by The Police. Sweet that it won't be a cover like Guitar Hero 2.
Oh lawd is dat some Eddie?
did i miss something? why did we skip february?
Yeah at least Rock Band is coming through on half of it's promised download content unlike the whole Guitar Hero 2 debacle. No full albums if very annoyning since they were touting Nevermind from Nirvana and the Who album for release within in weeks of launch.
This is all fine and dandy I just wish there was a way to set a song list so you could avoid songs that people would not know how to sing. So many times I have run into songs that the person singing has never heard and they crash and burn.
I'm all over that NIN pack, at least. March of the Pigs has killer drums.
I really do wish Harmonix could stretch a little more for their band choices, though it's just a pipe dream. I just love that game so much that every time I'm listening to my own playlists I'm wishing I could be banging out the drums for it in the game.
Woohoo, finally message ina bottle. Yeah yeah yeah i know that was in GH2 but i really wanted it in RB.
