The first Saw movie was decent, until you realized that a tiny little clown puppet was supposed to be killing people, and then later, you realize that (SPOILER ALERT!!!!) some decrepit cancer patient is somehow setting up all these traps. And then the series gave up on any intelligence in lieu of more red dye and corn starch mixtures.
And then they started licensing the awesome concept for video games!! Due out on Halloween October 2009 for Xbox 360 and PS3, we CAN'T WAIT! Developed by Brash Entertainment with the Unreal Engine 3, supposedly the game will be the result of close movie to game studio collaboration.
Oh, and to all the Saw fans. I'm sorry. (Not about this post, but that you've been sucked into liking crappy movies.) Oh, I kid. I love you all and have already judged you as perfect for reading my ramblings.

This can't be good.
Three cheers for torture porn!
For the love of God...please let this be cancelled!
D:
please stop dev on this game now!
*Insert more Hatred for the crapfest that is Saw here*
The world is doomed.
@Cwolf267: youre thinking of Hostel!
Yay more cannon fodder for the conservatives.
actually this might not be so bad. mmm Like maybe the game will have you playing the jigsaw's "game". Like you have to get out from the traps the game puts you in.
interesting if they allow such a game to exist I wonder what everyone will say as compared to manhunt
yeah, i agree with Mark and the others, the first Saw movie was halfway ok and actually had some even if weird moral statement to it, from there it went downhill quickly (like with the rambo movies ;) )
Maybe in the next Saw movie (There must be a new one every year from now on) they'll torture somebody with this game.
Nah, too sadistic.
I bet it'll be a platformer where you play some random guy who has to fight a giant jigsaw monster and you have to jump over bats and ghouls and collect jigsaw pieces along the way. Oh and you either don't have weapons or the only weapon you have is throwable soda cans.
Or am i thinking too 80's there?
:'(
The only way this will be good, is if the game is designed like that all Sierra game the Amazing Machine (i think thats what it was called) where you built those Rube Goldbergian setups to complete the level.... sept with killing people.
They still have 2 more saw movies to go. How can they be making a video game about the movies. Jack is going to have a field day with this one methinks.
Oh boy, even more censorage I'm sure. I'm sure this is going to get related to Manhunt and all that, oi.
Despite what Mark Wilson believes, I love the Saw series and will so until the day I die.
Not to say I can't point out their obvious flaws and imperfections.
But disregarding this, there is no way in a million years that this movie to game situation is going to turn out good. No way in hell.
I loved the first, after seeing the second I wrote the franchise off. I loves me sum horror, horror games or games that flirt with horror - love em. I will not give Saw: The Videogame the chance though. How stupid do you thyink we are? or I am? or something.....
I am with the crowd that thought Saw I was ok, nothing amazing, but ok movie and then it was just try to cash in with crappy sequel after sequel *sigh*
Now is try to cash-in with videogames, which I doubt will end up being any good at all.
Make it an action game, and it's doomed.
Make it a puzzle/strategy game, and it has potential.
Tecmo's Deception style trap making puzzle-ish game FTW!
By the way, current gen installment of that lovely series, please.
The only way this can be good is if it's a done in the style of a modern point and click adventure game - like Farenheit or Dreamfall. But yeah, the Saw films are pretty terrible. The first was OK aside from some truly dreadful acting but the rest are just ellaborate death scenes, with nothing else going on.
quatermann was right...again
@y2julio:
No, just no...
There is not way this can be good.
Blech, who wants this?
God damn...sometimes I'm ashamed to be a gamer...
Once again, Mr. Wilson, I whole heartedly agree. I'm just going to wait a few more years and watch all the films in a marathon, as I haven't seen any since the sequel. I will have drinks and snacks and a pistol in case it becomes too unbearable.
You've the balls to condemn Saw fans for their special interest in what may be a mediocre series, yet a love for something as mediocre as Halo is laudable? The world hath no justice.
I'm putting the chance of this game actually being worthwhile at about .5%. And I'm being generous here.
It's due out Haloween 2009.
What's actually terrifying about this is that they plan for the Saw franchise to stay relevant until then.
Forget the movies,
Forget the games,
I'm waiting to see Saw: The Musical.
the game will suck but anyone who didnt like the ending in saw 1 hates movies. And anyone who thought the doll was killing people is a moron.
The game could be an interesting puzzle game of sorts where you have to figure out how to survive whatever trap you're in. But if they put as much work into it as they have the last two sequels (I thought Saw II was entertaining to a degree)I am not expecting much.
I'm with Exkon on this one. Stuff like this make our hobby look bad and lose respect in other peoples' eyes. I'm a little ashamed too, since a hobby I really enjoy has this kind of crap involved in it, especially when I'm sure this game will outsell good games like Beyond Good & Evil and Eternal Darkness.
Oh no! They're marketing this sort of thing to children! It has graphic rape scenes! Horrific violence! Sure, it's not out yet and I've never played it, but it's obviously a torture porn video game being marketed to children! Who else would they market video games towards besides children, anyways? That 'M' on the front must mean "Must-Have Game." Using diabolical tricks to entice children to buy their filth is so low! How can those video game maker guys sleep at night?!

My god its full of fail.
Because Manhunt 2 was so well received, amirite?
The game's gonna suck, that's almost guaranteed. But, Mark, WTF? The first Saw movie was not "decent", it was bloody awesome!!!
This game probably won't be good, but it's a movie that could make an easy transition into videogames.
@kefka666: Indeed. It's true that you can't really like the other movies if you haven't seen the first one, as well.
Of course the series isn't perfect, but I believe there is a genuine effort being made to give fans of the series what they want, as well as to provide a unique horror experience.
If the approached it as a "escape from the room" type game it could be good... At least the color-Room games were good.
I agree that the saw movies suck (ive only seen 1 & 2). Hostel 1 & 2 are much better.
It'll be ignored because it's not by Rockstar.
This sounds like a mature mini game collection.
you know what would be even better?
Meet the Spartans The Game
"connect random pop culture references into one of three scenarios:
sex
drugs
farts
get nudity for double points!"
I agree about Saw. The FIRST one was decent, but the other ones just turned into torture porn.
Love the SAW series. First was brilliant. Second had some very good ideas. Third had a great plot...but aweful acting and was borderline unwatchably gory. Still trying to work myself up for SAW 4. If its more gory than 3, I am not sure I can get through it...but story wise, I want to know what happens to the guy from 3! (no spoilers please)
@nissan288:
Well. how about REPO! The Genetic Opera
[www.youtube.com]
not a saw musical... but from the director of the sequels.
You want to play a game you say?
Well, I don't.
Go away please, Mr. Jigsaw.
How the shit will this even work!?
@ichiban1081: :( but ...but.. :(
@Tonx: Yeah, SAW V and VI have been greenlighted for quite awhile. Here's hoping we don't get a "Jigsaw Takes Manhattan" when they hit VIII.
But it'll be interesting to see where they go with the game. I like the idea of what Natpalm said about it being somewhat of a puzzle game and you have to get out of certain traps in a time limit.
this game is going to suck.. .seriously... just bomb horribly.
@surrealistgesture:
My thoughts exactly. Let the player play as Jigsaw, and you have to trap the shit outa places to catch the good guys.
Where is Deception 4, anyways? I'd kill to see it in modern graphics + physics gameplay.
But...I love Saw. What could be better than people being brutally tortured and killed? It's the kind of thing that wakes me up with a smile on my face in the morning. I hear its these kind of movies that get Jack Thompson through the day when he loses his legal license for the third or fourth time in a row. These kind of movies are valuable cultural pillars of our great modern society.
