Codemasters has finally pulled aside the velvet curtain that hid their mysterious new MMO from view, revealing NetDevil's Jumpgate Evolution, which obviously must be standing in front of Codemasters' awesome, all-new game, seeing as we've known about the new Jumpgate since June of last year, with NetDevil hinting at the new title as far back as December 2006. *peeks behind Jumpgate* Nope, that's it folks. I'd say that's an awfully crafty way to hide your brand new MMO, leaving it out in plain sight like that. Either way, Codemasters will be distributing the game throughout North America and Europe, with Codemasters Online handling the game's operation. Hit the jump for a press release that should have been titled "NetDevil Finds Publisher / European Partner For Jumpgate Evolution."

Developed by the US-based experienced MMOG developer NetDevil, Jumpgate is a space-based MMO incorporating all-new action style gameplay like never seen before in any previous online game.
'We are very pleased to be working with NetDevil to release this exciting project across North America & Europe. Jumpgate brings something new and fresh to the online persistent space," commented David Solari, Vice President, Codemasters Online. "The all-action approach and thrilling, twitch-based space combat really sets it apart from other MMOs in the market and we are very much looking forward to releasing this space epic in late 2008."

The game features both a rich and varied universe to explore and has been designed for experienced and novice MMO players alike.
"We're really excited about this relationship. Codemasters has already established themselves as a premium game developer and publisher; as well as one of the most successful MMO operators in the business. Very few companies have those kinds of credentials." commented Scott Brown, President of NetDevil. "This combination of experience and dedication is a perfect fit for NetDevil and we are thrilled to be working with such a great partner."
Codemasters Online have confirmed that they will be the exclusive publisher / operator of this next generation MMO across Europe and will be working along with NetDevil to bring the game to the North American market.

I see wat u did thar!
A bit more detail on the game about halfway down this story:

I've been kind of on the fence about this one for a while. NetDevil -has- done some good work, but they've also done some less-than-stellar work. I'm looking at you, Auto Assault.
Hopefully more like E&B and less like EO.
So wait. Is this another mmo where you just play as a ship? Thats what makes EVE a snore and this is waste of my time then as well.
No thanks. I want a game like SWG where I can play on the ground AND in space if I choose.
Is it wrong to be more excited about Lego Universe than about this?
SWG? So you want a crappy game that started out as crap and then revamped into more crap?
Nothing is secret anymore.
@nissan288: That's a whole lot of crap!
I like console-type MMOs. That's why FFXI consumed me for nearly four years. This seems pretty cool, but again I hate clicking mouse button one repeatedly to fight or auto attacking while I eat a sandwich.
Can't wait for the Agency :D
@WoodyNvincible: I've been drooling over The Agency since it was first announced.
Me want.
I wanna try this out I like codemasters.
I beta tested the first Jumpgate and it wasn't great. The huge (think assaulting the death star huge) space battles were pretty cool, but that was about it.
i've a great idea for an mmo
PLEASE tell me that this is a deep space game for my beloved console.
*reads site. I can't see a platform >:|
Those ships better hurry up. They have plasma swords right behind them.
@mariospants: Actually I was thinking about this very thing the other day, but then I realised that Apple seem to to a very good job of keeping their big announcements fairly quiet. Or maybe no one cares about Apple's announcements so no one tries to seek out the exclusive news.
@iameleveneight:
The difference between Jumpgate and EVE is that Jumpgate is not dice rolling. The combat is twitch based. In the end, what matters is your mastery of your ship and your aim, not some numbers.
An interesting dichtomy springs up now. Do I take the path of the Scholar and descend back into EVE or the path of the Warrior and blast headfirst into this...
Better get both. Just to be safe ^_^
I want a Babylon 5 ship-based MMO. I'd pay good money for that. =/
As I have previously stated, if this plays anything like Freelancer, im in.
Stargate worlds>Jumpgate.
Fall 2008 cant come soon enough...
codemaster always does crap
I just want a decent Star Wars space MMOShooter with X-Wing/Tie Fighter mechanics. I'd go out and buy a joystick and everything... I loved Tie Fighter. ;(
Might be good; the MMO part just seems unnecessary though. I've never played one where the combat was tighter or more precise than regular multiplayer.
And honestly, how much variety is an MMO going to provide to a space-flight game? EvE tries like hell, and it still gets pretty bland after a week or so.
@Alith: As an ex Tie Fighter Junkie I can relate, I love EVE but the pointing and combat are like old school naval combat in 3d and not fast paced space flight sim combat.
I'm really interested in this but I have high standards and I don't know if it's going to meet them.
Now we can grind in Space.
@iameleveneight: hooray! iameleveneight, the commenter whos posted on every eve related article ever to denounce it. its true, trust me, ive been watching. anyone would think it walked into his house and kicked his dog.
