Like Mike said, Nintendo have, via their financial reports, announced some release dates for the coming year. Scrolling down the list of first-party games due in the Japanese market sees familiar titles like Metroid Prime 3, Mario Kart Wii, Battallion Wars 2 and...oh. Animal Crossing! Yes, the mythical, maybe-MMO Animal Crossing. What's encouraging about this news is that Nintendo are at least trying to get it out this year, so we should be seeing/hearing something about the game soon. What's not encouraging is that the game only appears on Japan's schedule, not Europe's or America's.

I both gleefully anticipate and dread the next AC game. Maybe I'll actually play this one for a full year?
Nintendo will only stop with the utter subjugation... of the WORLD!
now im pumped! havnt played the wii in so long i gotta finish SMG ><
Seeing as I have no shame, I'm sure I'll become addicted to this one as well.
Oh god. I can't move. This is too much.
I can't freaking wait for this game! Hopefully Nintendo will make a 2008 release for US as well, unless they pull a Super Smash Bros. Brawl move and delay it... repeatedly.
Cool!! Now I Jsut need another Wii. I have to play Mario, Metroid, SSBB, and This!!
Can a game be delayed before it has a release date?
hell yeah! And Kirby too!? I thought they said they weren't making a kirby game...
Nintendo is so quiet. =( I want news on Kirby Wii, Mario Kart Wii and Animal Crossing Wii. WiiFit and SSBB will be awesome, but I'd like to know that there's more for the Wii in terms of quality first party support past April of this year.
Anyone have an idea of what Wii Music is?
How? No news at all and it's coming in '08?
You know what? They should release the top secret, finished game the day after Brawl arrives. It would be the combination to end all combinations.
@zerbrechen: GDC is next month. And the year doesn't end til December.
come on bring them out don't try to make us wait for you can 1st more than 3 rd part games.
Oh gawd. THIS this will sell up the wazoo and back.
I keep saying I will, but I never do. I'm absolutely horrible at maintaining these - I'm loathe to see what's happened to my ACWW town I haven't touched since January 2006.
Kirby isn't dead? :O I thought they had confirmed the title to be dead. Perhaps that was specifically the Gamecube title, and they stopped making it in favor of a unique Kirby game for Wii.
Also, horray for Animal Crossing! I've been seeing Brawl videos of them fighting on the Animal Crossing level, hearing Animal Crossing music, and it made me want to play Animal Crossing :\ Hopefully it makes it out this year, along with Disaster Day of Crisis. (that game better be sweet)
Don't I already have a copy of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption? How is that coming out in 2008?
oh man! After the news from tonight my legs are gonna be sore in the morning. :O
I managed to achieve nerdy pseudo-fame by compiling AC:WW fish/bug guides for three or four months over at the animalxing.com message boards. this month is your last chance to catch this fish! next month, this other fish will be new! joy of joys!
my mind is flooding with memories of high-stakes turnip markets, gamefaqs message boards, wi-fi trips to far-off towns, paying entrance fees and exorbitant "tips", just for the rare privilege of buying cheap-ass turnips.
and the precautions and fears of AC vandals. I had a "Circle of Trust" (marked with a custom-drawn sign) near the entrance of my town. If any visitors stepped outside the circle of trust, they were to be booted instantly. all transactions must take place inside the circle of trust.
really puts the "lol" in nostalolgia
*sigh* ... good times, good times.
@psychicfriend: Because, as I said in the post, that's the JAPANESE release schedule. Metroid's not out in Japan yet.
Nintendo IS, Nintendo IS, Nintendo IS!!!!!
For the love of god, stop using "are" for singular companies!! It's one company!
@teh_sideburns: Never seen that version of Nostalgia before. Still, a fantastic idea... a bit totalitarian, but it's understandable.
My question is what is "Super Mario Stadium Family Baseball"?
Oh sweet god! I cant wait to go wiimote fishing/bugging.
As much as I love Animal Crossing, I wouldn't mind trading it for some worthwhile virtual console games (HM 64, Chrono, etc.)
oh yeah, it would be Nintendo's best interests to get this out by xmas of 2008. Every single person I know who owns a Wii in my circle of friends also has kids in the 4-10 age bracket. That plus a Wii "Nintendogs" will cement Nintendo's fortunes for eternity.
OOO sweet i love AC...but first i need to get a ps3 and then a wii :P
Sweet Baby Jesus
with this my dream may near completion
where are my Wii DS connectivity dammit!
Sweet! Kirby, this, and Disaster: Day of Crisis too!
The title sounds funny! 'For' doesn't need to be there twice. :D
Good news. I'm also interested to see how Nintendo pulls off Wii Music to be anything more than a tech demo.
Yay, Animal Crossing for the Wii, I can't wait, I loved it on the GameCube and DS, and now, hopefully they use Mii's for this version.
@Ashkihyena: If it comes out for the states that is, since its only in Japan at the moment. *Crosses fingers.*
I'm realy looking foward to AC and Kirby. Two of my favorite games of all time.
I do hope they make a lot of feature online realted.
Who's looking forward to that hardcore butterfly net swinging, fishing rod casting, shovel digging Wiimote gestures! Woo!
/sarcasm
I don't think there's any where in the world Animal Crossing Wii is an MMO. First, Nintendo has no track record or experience with MMOs. Second, why would they sacrifice all the potential customers who have Wii but no internet connection?
man oh man, as long as this one's online, im on board. been looking forward to this one for a while now, cant wait for details.
i literally saved a million bucks last time. PRO TIP! fish when it rains, and then fish some more.
Strangelove-
You mean "any chance in the world" ?
Wow, I have to pick up a Wii REAL soon now. As if SSBB wasn't enough.
Finally! I was going to cry if AC:Wii got scrapped and Wild World was the last of the franchise.
More anticipated than Brawl for me. Anyone agree?
YES!!!!!!! I can't wait, that's one of the few games I'd actually camp outside for.
Great, now I want a Wii >.>
Not really a surprise...they need a "big" game for Christmas, and this is it.
They are already blowing their load with Mario Kart, Wii Fit and Smash Bros. in the early half of 2008...so it will be interesting to see how they end the year. And it will be interesting to see how they go into 2009 too...I want a Pikmin game soon!
ok, Now I that's a reason for me to finally pick up the Wii.
Unless, of course, in the event that the game gets delayed...
hopefully, It's not the same-old, same-old Animal Crossing with tacked-on waggle for tree chopping, digging, and the works...
@Strangelove: ...you make that sound more boring then it has to be.
I don't think it'll be pure MMO, but I think they'll let you go online for more things to do. Who doesn't have internet, anyway?
Thank the stars. I've been waiting for this forever. And there's no way it won't feature online... but I do doubt the MMO idea. I trust EDGE magazine, but it just sounds too insane to be true.
@Cloudizme: its honestly pretty close for me.
I want Peanut back. :D
HOW ABOUT SOME ORIGINAL TITLES NINTENDO?
Hopefully they'll be able to make an Animal Crossing that has substance, eh?
Uh oh.
@Mitch10: THAT'D BE NICE TOO.
THING IS, IF YOU PAY ATTENTION TO NINTENDO'S TRACK RECORD EACH GEN, THEY TEND TO...shit, uh, anyway, they tend to drop at least 1-2 new ones each time. Last time, we got AC and Pikmin that come to mind; i too am looking forward to seeing the new ones this gen, but not so much that it takes away from the first news of any kind about this title, so uh, why not yell about this in one of the thousand smash bros related threads instead...?
