If you just can't get enough of Super Smash Bros. footage, this is definitely the post for you. An SSBB fan in Japan has taken a video camera to his local gaming concern and started filming random battles between players on their SSBB demo station. Currently he has sixteen clips uploaded to YouTube and is updating them regularly for your viewing pleasure. He seems to be uploading them pretty quickly so by the time you read this there are likely to be a few more. Hopefully these demo stations will arrive in the states soon so we can experience it ourselves instead of enjoying it vicariously through overseas shaky cam footage.

NOICE. ILL BE WATCHING THEM ALL.
we'd almost be playing this had it not been delayed a 2ND time...
Because we all know watching other people play games is SOO much fun. Specially games with no story or anything entertaining to keep your attention.
Many thanks. I was just spending this afternoon looking for such videos. Now I've hit another jackpot.
@ARboom: dude, quit trolling
anyways, if these come to the states, i will LIVE in a gamestop until march.
@ARboom: Glad to see that you can slip in and troll yet another SSBB thread though. Go you!
@ARboom: Actually, there's a number of reasons why people would want to watch these videos. Seeing as how the game is already enormously popular and has a legion of fans carried over from Smash 64 and Melee, tons of people will watch these videos to get an idea of how the game runs, how characters have changed, how the new ones play, how items/assist trophies are working out, etc. It may not interest you, but that doesn't mean that other people won't watch them.
@ARboom: awwww, c'mon~! i wanna know how all the guy's werk! especially the poke'trainer. and alot of the vids have him! i just wanna know how the new one plays out in advance. =P
I didn't know DeDeDe was in the game! DO WANT!
@MushroomBoy1022: why would you want to spoil it?
look at all their smug ass faces "i gots 2 pley gheym be4 u d1d!!"
*bursts into tears and runs*
THANK YOU! I cant wait for this game, to hit the US. WHY do they make us wait SO LONG!
@ARboom: Yes, actually many people do find it fun to watch. Especially a stradegetic game like Smash Bros. to get the idea of how people play. And nothing "entertaining to keep your attention?"GTFO.
@ARboom:
Well, second I saw the headline I knew you'd be here to tell everyone that you just don't care for this game. It's sad that you probably have more posts total on SSBB related topics than most of the die hards do. How about this: we'll just all remember that you don't like the game every time someone posts Brawl info, and then you don't have to waste our time or your own?
OOH, maybe we can get the editors of the site to put a little disclaimer at the bottom of all the Brawl posts that states that "ARboom is a whiny little bastard who has too much time on his ands and, oh, doesn't like SSB either!"
@ARboom: Tell that to all the people who go to fighting game tournaments to go against each other in competitive battles while all their friends cheer them on.
@ARboom: Is tomorrow monday?
@ARboom: Folks just want to see the game in action. Theres nothing wrong with that.
If you didnt like it, why did you even bother commenting? Since all your original comment did was make yourself look bad, which is odd seeing how your commenting history is ok on its own.
@ARboom:
Don't worry, I never got into SSB either. I got deathly bored of it after a few go arounds with it.
@ARboom: i didn't see you complaining about any of the posts regarding halo 3 movie maker...
the all important question...Will i be able to wavedash
He's a smashboards member - lots of detailed pro smash stuff about the above videos can be found here - [smashboards.com]
Just finished watching a couple of the videos. Great find Kotaku!
King Dedede + hammer = dual winsauce :D
I sent a tip in for this :)
Yeah, it looks awesome. This game alone warrants a Wii purchase.
I'm Curious if the game is out for release in Japan first. Why does the game contain some much english.
For example: The 3,2,1 Countdown and the words GAME SET and Sudden death?
Is it just a case of that's there no Japanese for those words or that having English in the game makes it cooler. If it's the latter then whatevers if your Japanese and don't speak a word of English?
I'm all confused.
@stryker1800: No. I'm confused though... If you can wavedash already, shouldn't you be up to date on what you can and can't do in SSBB?
@blaked567:
Don't get me started on that thing...
@all:
Fine. Since everyone here thinks I'm trolling, let me lay the record down. I had a discussion that a lot of the diehards didn't care for in a previous SSBB article simply because I didn't find SSB the SHIT. So now when I comment on the game as I would any fighting game *gasp* suddenly I'm a troll. Guess what? I would've made my original comment if this article was about the next DOA, Street Fighter 4, whatever. I find it stupid when people watch 'professional' gaming, and this is just an extension of that. Since everyone is so over-bloody-sensitive about this and taking it the wrong way, I'm just going to leave you all alone. My commenting history over the past year here PROVES I'm not a troll. I make no apologies, but I also want this to stop. Every comment in a story shouldn't have an @ one person over and over. Rest assured you wont see me in this or any other SSMB related article. Maybe you'd all like to call me out as a troll in the LEGO SSMB character news story a few articles down. I don't think anyone's done that (yet).
@ARboom: This means you won't be trolling anymore right?
I demand wavedash info!!!
ARGH! Why can't this game be in my hands right now?!
I've never seen the appeal of trolling, I like most games and try to post at least one positive comment in every news story I post in.
@Krytha: i havent actually looked into what can be done in brawl in respect to wavedashing and i only really mastered it with mewtwo in melee.
I am trying hard to be patient, but every ounce of news on this game breaks it apart. lovin' them videos too. Thanks much... please god let there be no wavedashing.
I must be missing something with this SSBB phenomenon. I always knew they were popular, but aside from maybe a new zelda game it appears to be the most wanted wii game.
In the pic posted last week of the supposed character select screen for melee, Bowser was called Koopa? Maybe there's an ounce of truth to the pic as he's known as koopa in this footage.
@ARboom: Quit acting like an idiot. If you were listening, Brawl has the Subspace Emissary mode, which was designed by the writer for Final Fantasy.
So please get your head out of your ass and stop trolling.
@Hellcom: There will be no wavedashing.
[www.youtube.com]
Some other vids, and much better in quality as far as technique in comparison to these.
Check out some of the Dedede ones, some awesome chaingrabbing (against Bowser and Ike, iirc).
@Hellcom: It's out homeslice.
And good riddance.
@Eman311: Sit down with a few friends and play a Smash Bros game for an hour. Or go through and beat the game a few times. It's a fun, colorful, easy to play fighting game with a suprising amount of depth. It's also fun just to have an assortment of characters from classic video games hitting each other.
You know what sucks about this. This year is a leap year. 24 more hrs.
Watching some of the videos was cool, but a lot of the people playing sucked. Nonetheless it looked like whenever someone gets the smashball it has the same effect as when someone gets the Hammer you stay in the air, dodging, for as long as possible until you can clearly kill them before they can use it.
Wavedashing is out, but some form of wavelanding is in they believe. Pretty much, they changed how the air dodge mechanic works, so you only air dodge in the same direction as your momentum (which is what wavedashing was...wavelanding really damn close to the ground).
This makes me even more curious about the game, simply 'cause characters with a lot of near-ground mobility (Peach, Jiggs) but not as much ground mobility will become a LOT better in the movement department simply 'cause everyone else's movement got nerfed. Especially Peach. (nerdy part coming up) If she can cancel her jump into a float instantly like in Melee, she could, in theory, have a really slow wavedash...which would be better than none at all, which is what everyone else has. Anything you can use for spacing is good in my book.
I been watching these already but it feels kinda slow if you ask me the Bowser fight.. well compared to a Fox and Marth battle from Melee.
@ARboom: The issue is that you've shown up in every SSBB comment line since that initial conversation to act as if 'ZOMG, this game is sux, why r they trying stuff?'. Why bother entering a comment in the thread at all if you don't 'get' this game or it's hype? Not understanding why people get excited for certain games is ignorance, pure and simple.
People get excited and interested in games from developers that made games they love. Being a big fan of Capcom titles is just the same as being a big fan of, say, Halo, Smash Bros, Unreal Tournament, Half Life, or any other franchises that you've seen to this point. If I came into every, oh, let's say Ratchet thread before it came out and merely said 'Why do people like this game?' or 'That screenshot doesn't look anything all that interesting.', that's called trolling.
You can be biased towards things you like, naturally, but there's no room for people who can't figure this shit out, and instead want to bring negatives into every discussion on something they don't like.
@xpnet: In all honesty, I'll take a little drop in speed to the game. Watching some of those tourney-style battles, I can honestly say that people new to the series, or who might be interested in the game, would shy away from it with the constant, spastic movement. (Of course, I dunno how much of that was this wavedashing junk, which I never really knew about until these here internet thingys.) The game itself, which is actually simple to pick up and play, looks down right intimidating when you're moving at high speed, items are flopping around left and right, things are exploding and environments changing. Still, the game is usually pretty configurable, perhaps there'll also be speed settings for those that want more a Melee feel even if the characters operate a little differently.
@Neutral_Fanboy: He's known as Koopa or King Koopa in the Japanese version of Smash and Mario games, if I remember right from others around here.
@TheCleaningGuy: O trust me I've played the previous games...I don't know I just think the hype for this game has gone way higher than expected.
Has anyone nominated ARBOOM for banning yet? Because he's one of the biggest tools I've ever seen.
And yeah, we want to watch Smash Bros. footage. Do you really have a problem with that? Seriously? My god I can't even fathom how someone can be such a useless tool.
The hype:
A) It's Smash Bros.
B) It's fanservice porn.
C) It looks fun.
D) Will be able to snap Sonic's neck with Snake, which is the only goo thing I can see in having a piece of shit such as Sonic in any game.
E) It looks fun.
Still, neither do I find any fun in watching videos of other people playing, but mainly because I never go too deep into fighters (which is for my own sake, as no one in here does).
@ARboom: whatever you say, you adorable little troll. :)
Anyway, Nintendo should definitely release a demo in the states by demo disc like in some magazines. Even demo kiosks will be nice, that would give me a reason to go to gamestops. But an American demo is highly unlikely, especially via demo disks...OH WHY OH WHY Nintendo, do you not support hard drive disks on the Wii!!!! Demo downloads are the way to go with hugely hyped games!!!!!!!! Bleh.
@dowingba: Alas, there are bigger tools around these parts. If he figures it out that, hey, what he's doing is trolling and corrects himself, that's one thing. There are others, however, that are purely trolls, and those are the ones I'd love to see removed first. Lookin' at you, Kyle.
Wow that King Dedede is badass with that nice combo he did to Ike. I can't wat for this game to come over ule
