G4 host Adama Sessler gives his opinion on the whole Fox News/Mass Effect imbroglio in this clip from a recent episode of X-Play. He presents the facts with much more aplomb and fairness than Fox did, but in the end turns the tables to give the network and author Cooper Lawrence a taste of their own medicine. Although Lawrence has since apologized for her missteps, it's still fun to watch Sessler take her and the dubious Fox News to task.

owned by Sessler.....wow, G4 and EA fighting the good fight in the same week? It isn't 2012 yet is it?
Those are some pretty big words...
While I generally find G4 represents everything I hate about gaming media, this was pretty funny.
the best part from the video: "I haven't read your book, but it completely sucks" --- so true
I don't say this often, but I really can't think of anything quite as fitting... OWNED.
Regardless of the way he is portrayed on G4 a lot of the time I think Sessler is one the smartest journalists in gaming. I think the new format of Xplay is going to show it.
Does that guy have to breathe at all?
He was right about not having the composure or eloquence of Geoff Kieley. I mean, I really kind of wish he would have done a better job painting a picture of just what the Fox News producer did: they basically assigned an opinion to Cooper Lawrence, and she happily obliged. Should Lawrence have known better? Of course! But you know who else should know better than to assign an opinion to a guest? ANYONE WHO GIVES A DAMN ABOUT JOURNALISM!
wow. GO ADAM SESSLER!
That ending was great!
Now thats gaming news..
Sessler may not have the polished TV presence of other TV people, but he's one smart cookie and I generally enjoy watching him.
Damn, this guy can talk long without breathing, wish I could do that.
As for the video itself, Fox got owned, yet again.
Sweet, sweet, sweet.
@Vibhorsir: Yeah, I got this feeling that he was trying to validate his opinion by going "Look at me! I'm smart!"
Wow, that was an excellent rant.
Pretty cool :)
wow he used words I don't even know.....
Very very nice.
The sad thing is though, most Americans won't see this and all those Foxbots will just keep on watching it and accepting everything Fox news says as 100% fact.
That was brilliant!
He is brilliant! I fully agree. I haven't read her book but it's corrupting the youth of today.
Also I don't think he was using "big words" to show how smart he is, some of us actually have those particular words in our vocabulary ;)
The thing that makes me so happy about all of this is that in the same year that Mass Effect came out and got ridiculed for sex and nudity, God of War 2 came out and was completely ignored, despite ACTUALLY having nudity (no joke, in one of the early cinematics, there's a fully naked woman laying on her side with her back to you, full naked ass visible, and her legs slightly parted so you can see the slightest sliver of her "other private part"). Plus, there are lots of naked breasts, and there is even a sex mini game where you control the action in a more much explicit cinematic scenario than Mass Effect ever had. There's ACTUAL R-rated material in God of War 2 (not to mention it's one of the most violent and gory games I've ever seen), versus the stuff in Mass Effect that could easily be shown in the 9pm slot on America television.
It's amazing how ignored God of War 2 was last year. I actually think it was the game of the year... amazing level design, awesome controls, and just perfectly fun gameplay with a shit-ton of replay value. Of course, it was largely ignored on the game critic end and on the conservative media criticism end, I'm guessing because it came out on a platform that the industry likes the ignore as still having relevent titles being released.
BOOYAH BIATCH!
Breathe dammit! I can't understand a single thing he said. LOL at the end though.
"I havent read your book, but it sucks" Priceless
@ centy
You sayin' Im stupid? Enlighten me if you would with your vivid vocabulary!
No way. Go Sessler!
pwned! go sessler!
Very well said. It's times like this that I wished my college cable provider had G4.....
.... oh God, that makes me feel dirty.
Only for X-Play (and maybe Code Monkeys), though....
In Sessler we trust
@Vibhorsir: @Doomstalk:
So using "big words" is bad?
Was it me or did the video kind of go out of sync? Anyway, good stuff.
Well done, and kudos to Kotaku for being mentioned in an ad I saw on G4 for the new Advance Wars game. I was watching Ninja Warrior; love that show. Who knew that Ninjas had to climb so much?
zing...? i thought this lady apologized. no? and we know rupert murdoch is the devil. let's get some breaking news people!
Oh lawd, that's hilarious. Hard to really care about Sessler too much when he is opposite Webb, but this is a great rant.
You know when you've had too much Mass Effect when this one starts referring to those ones as those ones, and this one as this one. Damn enkindlers.
I was never a big fan of G4. It was too opinionated. Honestly, I always felt it as the Fox News of Video games journalism.
I can't stand Sessler, even though he's correct.
Adam...I appreciate the effort but Big Words and Logic don't work on Fox News.
Well said Adam! Stop using so much meth though.
I actually have respect for G4 now. Not much, but its a start...
@captronj: Well it wasnt a real apology but at least it was "something".
Surprise surprise, remember that MS owns stock in G4. So while somewhat to the point there is bias here and shouldn't be taken at face value.
Wow, respect level raised.
Sessler just owned them. "Demig-ds" and "simpletons" I love it!!!!
Nice Adam! Anyone got any Aloe for that burn?!
@Sparx88:
Are you serious?
Dont be silly!
I'm liking more and more how Sessler and a few of the other G4 hosts are starting to step up on these issues. Even if they are just reading off a speech written by someone else, they've been delivering a quasi-voice-of-the-people kind of gravitas with more frequency.
You never would've guessed that gaming would start to involve so much politics and passion a few years back, but, low and behold, here it is.
Haha. That was awesome.
ZING!
@baked ham: I thought much the same thing about the Witcher. I think heads would explode if any of these yahoos actually saw some of that game's more 'questionable" moments.
@Sparx88: There's no possible way anyone could vote in favour of Fox.
You're either right or wrong. Fox is wrong. Sessler seems to realise this and went for the right option.
w00t! Go Sessler go! pwn those bitches over at Fox "news!" But seriously, do you really expect Fox news to be able to understand those semi-big words? I suggest at least to have someone go over there and put it into simpler terms that they can easily understand with their clearly underdeveloped minds.
Fox News, CNN and the other 24/7 "news" stations are the most irritating things to watch. They invite people onto their shows for debates but constantly interrupt their guests and each other; nobody gets their point across a majority of the time. Is the lack of time given to a single segment the problem or is this chaotic pissing match what people really want to see?
The only thing that sets these Cable News Channels apart from Jerry Springer is the lack of flying chairs and half nude obese men/women throwing them.
The art of conversation is non-existent when it comes to Fox,CNN,(insert cable news channel here).
Aren't there more important things going on in the world to report on, I hear there's a war going on. They really had to try and make a big deal out of a obscure PG-13 sex scene?
FOX is the NEW "F-Word" in my opinion.
@Markez:
Don't you mean..."Damn Hanar". The Enkindlers are who the Hanar worship.
Crap!...
You know when you've had too much Mass Effect when you start correcting small Mass Effect trivia. Sorry won't do it again.
pfft adam sessler G4 blah bad publisity is still publisity i bet they sell more games with the claims. still fun to watch everyone whos in the gaming world put in their own two cents.
@Sparx88: Ladies and gentlemen, I'm pleased to introduce Sony's staunchest supporter on Kotaku. Let's give him a round of applause!
LvL up! Adam just gained +3 respect!!
@xbanditx:
What I found funny, is that the PG-13-rated Goldeneye movie had tits, yet the M-rated (if it was a movie, it would be rated R :P) Mass Effect only has sideboob. Come on now.
