In a single line text message sent from her Blackberry, Teri VanHorn, producer of Fox News' Live Desk with Martha MacCallum, blew off Electronic Arts' detailed call for correction over the error strewn report the show did on Mass Effect earlier in the week.
Jeff Brown, Electronic Arts' vice president of communication, told Kotaku that the producer told him to contact Fox News' public relations department, which apparently now deals with factual errors in their stories.
Brown told me he wasn't surprised, but that EA will continue to "step up when someone maligns our creative teams.
"They need to understand there are 100 people in Edmonton, Alberta who dedicated years to making that game. They've got names, faces and reputations - and they've been slandered. We're angry about that."
He added that yesterday's reaction was not a one off, "it's a policy directive from Riccitiello. Anyone who tells lies about our creative teams is going to get a fight."

Get to suin'! That's free publicity AND a sizable cash settlement!
i hope fox gets their up and communce >.>;
get me some spelling correctives pls.
I hear the sweet sound of a lawyer opening a briefcase.
Is it really possible that EA is changing for the better?
I hope they're not just setting us up for the fall ...
"They need to understand there are 100 people in Edmonton, Alberta who dedicated years to making that game. They've got names, faces and reputations - and they've been slandered. We're angry about that."
well said.
They should outright sue. The games industry has taken shit from the mass media for too long.
In a way, it's both slander and libel. They're both bad. Does anyone research anything anymore before making it news?
Since when has Fox cared about the Truth? Should anyone be surprised?
Agreed, sue fox news please.
Fox has become the joke of a media that you would read about only in fiction. A big title, a big story, anything to blow something out of proportions and fit it's agenda.
well they can't sue until they "send it through the proper channels". so 2 weeks from now if nothing gets taken care of they'll sue.
Oh EA, please keep up the good job and make me you consider a decent corporation.
*cue Kim by Eminem chorus*
@Quark: Well I don't think they are necessary developing a conscience as a company. It's in their best interest if the correction goes up well as that report has the potential to mess up their sales of the game.
@huginn (XBL - WendingoPSU): Like every other news station?
Fox news is practically the only one you can go to for at least workable political news and what not, and no news source ever does video games well. They're all idiots on that front.
c'mon EA, kick ass and take names.
maybe you can team up with Bungie and Rockstar and kidnap the Fox people, that TownHall idiot and The-One-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named, and toss 'em off a friggin' cliff.
on that note, i just got happy...
... in the pants.
Prepare lawsuit EA. :)
I still don't understand why this was a news story in the first place. Do we really have nothing better to cover?
Holy hell, since when did EA become the reformed Scrooge? This is awesome!
"Anyone who tells lies about our creative teams is going to get a fight."
That made my skin tingle.
bravo to EA....i hope they fight this until FOX declares a public apology
@Quark: From what I understand the Doctors of Bioware were actually given uppity up positions at EA. I could be wrong about that, don't quote me. Get 'im EA!
PLEASE sue.
That is after the PR department refuses to air a public apology. Also as part of the suite when EA whens they should demand a public, broadcasted apology.
It's probably quite jarring for a titan like Fox to actually be challenged by a (smaller) titan like EA
It's fun to see this as an actual battle :)
They should use the media AGAINST Fox News. Go on CNN, MSNBC and any other media outlet that would listen. That'll teach 'em!
Ok I'm really starting to get pissed here. Imagine how many people saw that. Now imagine how many of their kids won't get to play video games at all anymore. This is a real problem and we need to do something about it.
EA Prepare your lawyers and make a stand for a much battered and bruised industry.
Be good for a change.
Anyone who watches FOX News or takes anything they report seriously is an idiot to begin with. They're a right wing propaganda machine. If any real facts actually make it on air, it's usually a mistake and the person responsible gets fired.
The very existence of FOX News is an affront on good taste and journalistic integrity.
Yeah seriously they need to sue for damaging them. They lied to the people and twisted everything to something that isn't and are liable to it as well. If its because of people will not go out and buy the game, but gamers love media attention and will go out and buy it anyway only to support the dev's and all that good stuff
I hope they take them to court. The act of telling outright lies about consumer products is easy to connect to financial damages (tarnished brand image, lower game sales).
The ability to sue for damages exists for a reason, and damn if I don't think this falls under that reason. People can't just get away with promulgating demonstrable untruths about consumer products, and that applies to more than just videogames. EA is in a better position to set Fox straight than most of their "victims," so to speak. They should sue the fuck out of Fox so that Fox has very clear motivation to properly research subjects in the future.
LET'S GET READY TO RUUUUUUMMMMMBBBBLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Man Fox News is getting hit hard over this. I actually like where this is going. Keep it going, EA.
EA should buy Fox News and then fire her ass.
EA needs to show FOXNEWS their evil side which the game industry has seen for so long. =P
Oh man...is Bioware being bought by EA....Not a bad thing? I feel so weird for supporting them =O
I cant believe im backing EA but hell yes. Give it to Fox. Fox already makes up all the Bullshit in the world anyways and everybody lets them get away with it. But when it comes to gaming, we are now a $20 Billion market and we still dont (publishers and developers and the Big 3) dont stand up for the market in any shape or form. Its about time somebody took a stance for the community.
EA vs Rupert Murdoch?
Who will win?
Same as always, the lawyers.
@exolstice: down boy, down.
don't make me put on my jack-boots and come waterboard you
@Kaemon: I LOLed. Great joke there! Fox news good for anything...thats a good one!
@DrLight:
You mean was bought? Yeah they bought up like a month or two ago. Good to know that EA is protecting them
I'm amazed. I may actually have some respect for EA if they follow through.
I say that if they don't apologize, sue. I'm usually not big about suing, but honestly, this is a situation that calls for it.
I wouldn't sue them for cash - I'd sue them for a commercial. They lose - they have to film a 30 second spot that covers their inaccurate reporting, and then present the real facts. Air it once an hour - every hour for a month or so on the FOX network. That'll send a message to everyone.
There's nothing quite this piss poor over here in England thankfully. Only The crappy tabloid papers and ITV.
We're not gonna take it!...
Who cares, it's EA, not like they make good games anyway. All they do is buy out studios and slap their names on their games. EA's own games suck and will always keep sucking. I hate EA
SUEEEEEEEE!
God, I didn't think I'd see the day when I'd be rooting for EA. But hey man, go kick Fox's ass.
EA should buy FOX - then make these girls booth-babes for terrible games - ewww booth babes?? I disgust myself
I think it's funny that when it's a class action suit against Microsoft, everyone says it's just people trying to get rich. Now that it's Fox News, everyone wants EA to sue. Not that I'm on Fox's side.
@CarbonatedWater:
In all likelihood, parents who watch Fox News to begin with aren't going to be too keen on videogames. Also, you know, it's an 'M' rated game, so parents really shouldn't be buying the game for children to begin with.
All I have to say is this: Please don't dismiss the lawsuit.
@sadkermit: I like your way of thinking.
@telekinesis: you do realize that the game were discussing is mass effect right? and that its owned by EA?
thats like saying you hate burger king as you munch on a whopper.
