If we're talking long term (and we are), things like attachment rates do matter. In North America, the Wii has a game attachment rate of 6.9, while it's 5.6 in Europe. Those are numbers to be proud of. But in Japan, it's a different story. The attachment rate is 3.4, a number made even lower by the fact that the Wii isn't bundled with Wii Sports as it's sold separately. Now that I think about it, I own only four Wii games. You?

My roommate owns 16 Wii games..... yeah hes kinda got a problem.
Yeah it seems that is the rate for it I'm suprised it have that high Attachement Rate in NA and Europe.
Got 4 or 5 Games for my Wii as well, but played maybe 2 of them more than just a glance, currently it have been just a dust collector for a very long time.
I don't have too many Wii games myself, but that's because Nintendo hasn't brought any real 3rd party support in to make high quality, unique games, and because their 1st party release schedule is 2nd only to Duke Nukem Forever.
And my mind is filled with the image of japanese people playing Wii Sports obsessively, endlessly. Forever. This notion is inexplicably harrowing.
I got 4, and none is Wii sports.
And I don't intend to buy Smash bros...
but i'll buy Mario Kart
AND I still don't have all the stars in mario galaxy, i'm leaving it for when i'm bored.
Got around 11 if I remember correctly.
CoD3
SMG
RRR
WWSM
Godfather
LoZTP
REUC
WiiPlay
SPM
WiiSports
MySims
I own 10 or 11 Wii games...
Mario Galaxy
Zack & Wiki
Mario Strikers
RE: Umbrella Chronicles
Elebits
Excite Trucks
Zelda: TP
Rayman Raving Rabids
...and a few others I can't think of at the moment. My 360 does get 75% of the playtime, but I'm satisfied with the Wii's game library.
I own WiiSports, Elebits, Zelda, Mario Galaxy, No More Heroes, and Dewey's Adventure. And I only have Dewey's Adventure because I got a review copy. I never would have bought that damn thing.
I own three: SMG, RE4: Wii Edition, RE: Umbrella Chronicles. Had Mario Party 8 but got rid of it, want to get Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. I'll wait for a price drop. Might get SSBB and will definitely pick up Mario Kart. I'll wonder if they'll let you snake like you can in MKDS >:)
Ive got 5, most bought over Christmas. I've still to finish Galaxy (98% done), Metroid (30%) & Zelda (40ish%) so should be kept busy until Smash Bros. comes out... and if not, then I'll get Z&W!
I own quite a bit but most were launch titles.
I now own 17 Wii games thanks to No More Heroes.(Excluding Wii play and Wii sports of course)
I have 8 games downstairs. (where my wii currently is) Upstairs, at least 12. Most likely more, but im too lazy to go and check at the mo.
Yep, i haz a lot of games. 20-something Xbox 360 games (not counting XBLA) and a mere 9 PS3 (not counting downloads).
I have owned a Wii since it launched and I own only the following:
Wii Sports
Wii Play
Rayman: Raving Rabbids
That's it.
I own about eight or nine Xbox 360 games, though, and the 360 takes up about 95% of my gaming time.
I just have a hard time finding Wii games interesting, to be honest with you.
Wii Sports
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metal Slug Anthology
Super Mario Galaxy
4 or 5 Virtual Console Games
I still rented/borrowed a lot. Also, I've been wanting to get Mortal Kombat Armageddon...
I've been surprised with how many games I picked up recently: Zak and Wiki, Ghost Squad and Super Mario Galaxy post christmas (in the UK) as I'd only really bought Metroid and Table tennis for the 3 months preceeding. Now there's only 3 titles that I now have to look forward to for the next 6 months: No More Heroes, SSBB and Mario Kart.
I am very concerned over the lack of decent 3rd party titles on the horizon.
It would be interesting to see what the DS attachment ratio was in the territories mentioned...
I've had mine since launch and I've got:
paper mario
umbrella chronicles
table tennis
strikers charged
galaxy
excite truck
wario ware
zelda
resi 4
and many some others - cant think
Between my whole family, i own 19 wii game and 3 360 games. Sold my ps3 with 2 games. Thing is, i only bought a 360 for gears and halo.
@PlaidNinja: Fail. Utter fail. Had you said, say, Too Human, I'd give you credit. Nukem? Boy, that game ain't even real!
I'm honestly not too surprised though, by Japan's numbers anyway. The EU/NA numbers though? Sure look a lot better than the doom and gloom everyone touts around the internets (Kotaku included.)
Japan though... I can only imagine that next generation's handheld system will be where the real gaming war goes down as far as that market is. This go around really shows how much of a difference there is in the two markets.
Wii Sports
Twilight Princess.
Metroid Prime 3.
Sonic
Super Paper Mario
Zack and Wiki, more people should own this.
No More Heroes
Metal Slug Anthology
Resident Evil 4
5 Virtual Console games.
Which is about on par with Xbox 360 and PS3 in terms of number.
Of course this is about Japan, where the attach rate for all systems has been going down with every console.
Even PS2 for new buyers these days (yes, there are still those who are only now buying it), isn't that huge as it once was.
Now the DS, PSP, and Mobile games on the other hand, huge huge market and rate of games to system.
I have
LoZ:TP
Godfather
Mario Strikers Charged
SSX Blur
Excite Truck
Resident Evil
Signed Super Mario Galaxy
Endless Ocean
Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
Guitar Hero III
and will buy Zack & Wiki, No More Heroes, Batallion Wars, Mario Kart, SSBB, Elebits when I have the time to play.
How is Endless Ocean anyroad?
Only 2 games...in fact my Wii isn't even pluged in anymore...gathering some dust.
I have: SMG, Rayman Raving Rabbids (for party) and RE4. The rest like MP3 and RE:UC I rent. No VC.
Not surprisingly I used to own 30+ DS games, since dwindled to around 10 after selling most off. 10+ PSP games and around 20+ PS2 games.
I've got 6 myself. I would have 7 if not for EB's asinine preorder policy. I live far enough away from my preferred store that I just can't go there to preorder stuff all the time.
Okay i checked. 34. I didnt know it was so many......
Medal of Honor: Vanguard
Medal of Honor: Heroes 2
The Sims 2: Castaway
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Paper Mario
Metroid Prime 3
Wii Play
Wii Sports (bundle game)
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
Manhunt 2
I think that's it, seems like I'm missing one. Also - I'm going to be picking up Endless Ocean soon and the wifey is getting My Horse and I next month.
Have quite a bit of VC titles as well - maybe 15 or so?
@sadkermit: Zelda: Twilight Princess
That's all of my Wii games.
I own 3 wii games....and I don't think I'll buy anymore either because when I buy a game...I rather buy it for the ps3 instead. I kind of want to give my wii away, but my neices likes to play with it when she comes over, that's the only reason I still have it. I don't even play with it.
I have 18, and still don't have Zack & Wiki or Metroid yet, so I'm over by more than a bit.
I own about 14 Wii games. As a casual console gamer I find much to like about the Wii. I get my hardcore gaming via my PC.
Well done to you all for owning more than one Wii game, but it's the casual market that brings in the money for the gaming industry, and I don't think many casual gamers read industry news/blog sites. So your comments don't really reflect the general public. I run a game store and I know the attachment rate for the Wii is probably the worst I've seen since the Gameboy was released bundled with Tetris in the early 90s. The sad truth is that alot of people will only pick up a Wii for Wii Sports and nothing else. It's a bloody good job nintendo make a profit on the hardware or they would be screwed. I guess nintendo knew the attachement rate for their console would be bad, as with previous nintendo consoles, and formed a buisness stratergy around this.
let's see...
Wii Sports (of course)
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Wii Play
Big Brain Academy
Super Mario Galaxy
Link's Crossbow Training
Endless Ocean
i think that's all. that makes 7, which is right on par with the NA (where i live) attach rate. i had the abyssmal Tony Hawk's Jownhill Jam until i played it. i promptly got rid of that turd.
@Kenofthedead: about Endless Ocean. i got it the night before last. i played it for about 20 mins. i wasn't quite sure yet whether i would like it or not. i played it for another hour last night and now i'm hooked. i love it.
I have about 14 I think, but there's a lot of shovelware there... When it first came out, I'd buy almost any game for the pure excitement of seeing how the Wii Remote would be used... Of course these days it very different, and for a good six months I've only bought Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy.
@ToastyBuffoon: So what are you? A casual or a hardcore gamer? You can't be both!!!
6.9 in america? That's the 360s attach rate. I though the wii's attach rate was about the same as the ps3.
As for games,
Wii sports
Mario Galaxy
Twilight Princess
Metroid 3
Re4
Fire Emblem
@Kenofthedead: Endless Ocean is... Hm.
If you have any interest in aquariums or aquatic study, it's nice to play around with. It's not some sort of scientific tool or anything, but it's a nice, non-stress sort of game. Game used in the loosest sense, as the objectives you are given are never really requirements, and you can pretty much just do whatever you want most the time. And hell, it's only 30 bucks. (Planning on picking up NMH soon as Target manages to get it in stock, as my gaming budget now is determined mostly by gift cards.)
Considering I like purchasing videogames as much as/more than I like playing them, my brother owns quite a few Wii games, but in the past 'however-long-he's-had-the-Wii, I've bought (and played) way more PS2 games. I'll chime in with everyone else: Nintendo, moar 3rd party plz.
Hmm
Wii Sports,
Wii Play,
Zelda: Twilight Princess,
Zelda: Goron crotch shooting,
Resident Evil 4,
Super Paper Mario,
Metal Slug Collection
Strikers charged
Still need to pick up Galaxy and MP3 sometime.
I only have a couple Wii games, Metroid, Zelda, and the new Mario. The Wii looks blurry and awful on my LCD TV, I can't play it. I got Super Mario Galaxy for Christmas and it's still in the shrink wrap, I keep going back to the 360 when I want to play a game. I don't think my Wii controllers have had their batteries charged for 6 months.
Playing Metroid Prime feels like I'm playing Quake 2, like that graphical level. I know it seems like I'm shitting on the Wii, but I really think I'd enjoy it on a $50, 100lb cathode ray tube box from Wal-Mart. The games are fun but they really just look frelling awful on an LCD.
Kotaky fails to report that Nintendo sold 113 million pieces of software WW to date (up till the end of December). The 360 sold aprox 57 million pieces of software during the same amount of time. If you take away aprox 14.5 million Wii sports games that were packed in with the system and another 12 million Wii play games since people like to argue that it shouldn't "count" you still have 86 million pieces of software sold for the Wii compared to 57 million pieces sold on the 360 during the same amount of time.
Notice how I didn't dock the 360's software for pack ins (which it did have in it's first year) and it still sold way less then the Wii sold?
So if the Wii is doing bad software wise... then how is the PS3 and 360 doing? Obviously not quite as well...
Attach rates mean nothing if your hardware is growing at a super fast rate. You can really only gauge attach rates if the hardware sales have slowed down for several months or at the end of a consoles life. As it stands now, you stand a better chance of selling your game on the Wii given it's sales all around. Let's not even get into the topic of cost to produce on each of the systems... that would favor one system way too much and we can't have that!
I have Galaxy, Zelda, Resi 4, SSX Blur, Wario Ware, Wii Play.
But I'm selling all but Mario, Zelda and Resi 4. I would sell Mario and Zelda...but, you know, it's Mario and Zelda. If you have a Wii, you kinda have to have them.
i dont own a wii though i do take them a few times a day.
i've got a problem too, i've got like 12 wii games as well. and about eight of them i haven't even started playing (except putting them in the wii console to see if they are working)
yeah. i've got a problem.
D:
17 here (exclude Wii Sport and Wii Play) and 10 Xbox 360
Me?

Red Steel
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
Super Paper Mario
Trauma Center: SO
Trauma Center: NB
Twilight Princess

I think that's about all of them. 23 altogether. The most of anyone on here so far (after a quick peruse). Do I win anything? >_>
Well, I own Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Wii Sports, and Link's Crossbow Training.
I've also owned Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (which I hate!), Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Paper Mario, Red Steel (meh), and Elebits (fun). Sold off these last 5 for various reasons...
This... THIS is why I resisted the lure of the Wii. I told you! I told everyone! They all said I was mad! Wii will have MAYBE a dozen games for it worth playing in its lifespan. I saw this all coming a mile away. DOOM! DOOOOOOOMMMM!
I have a PS3 and 7 games for it already that I love, and I've only had the thing since Christmas. And I didn't get any games with the system, either.
@multimoog: Flaming Fan Boy!?
I have 10 wii games counting Wii Sports
Geometry Wars: Galaxies
Legend of Zelda: TP
Metal Slug Anthology
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz
Super Paper Mario
Warioware: Smooth Moves
Wii Sports
Zack & Wiki (GO BUY IT!)
Captain obvious strikes again! Seriously Nintendo must find this alarming on some level despite their tremendous success thus far. People who said the Wii isn't sustainable are probably not far off.
