Games Radar are reporting that, according to a "reliable Sony source", God of War III won't be finished any time soon. As in, not in 2008, and maybe not even the year after, the source saying it's due to be completed around Christmas 2009 at the earliest. If you don't have a calendar handy, that's aaaages away. Bad news for fans of Kratos and his manly chest, then, and surely (if true) the reason why Sony were trying their darndest to hold off from announcing the thing so "early".

Its coming to Wii.
at least I'll have plenty of time to play God of War II (which I think I'll buy when it's about 5 bucks)
Brawl should be coming out around then too!
Well it looks like I wont have a ps3 until late 2009 anyways, so this doesn't bother me.
i'm not surprised they haven't even shown anything for it
Boo. I beat II a couple of months ago and am going through I right now. At least I won't be sick of them by the time it comes out.
Did anyone really expect it this year? I didn't.
And there's plenty to tide me over in the meantime.
I guess that will give me time to actually buy the first two and play them, just like the delays on MGS are giving me time to play through the other MGS games again.
What did people expect? The last 2 creators practically stepped away and the third guy has to figure out how to take one of the best series of the last decade to the next level. If anyone really expected this out before then they were only fooling themselves.
well, since I havent played 1 and 2 yet, I would be happy with an HD upgrade of the first two.
That's... an extremely long time! The fate of the PS3 will be decided by then, surely?
These delays are a very bad thing for Sony and the PS3 it will just cause people to hold off on buying the console and damage their momentum. Anyone who was expecting the PS3 to overtake the Xbox 360 this year had better postpone their victory parties until we at least have solid dates for Final Fantasy XIII and God of War III. MGS 4 I'm afraid is just not going to help Sony all that much.
do not want. kratos is one of the worst protagonists ever imo :)
Also rumored the addition of four more weapon types.
...which noone will use.
doesnt surprise me, production started right after GoW2. but they have to build an engine, and all that preproduction crap, plus Cory Barlog bailed on the team, who the heck is project lead now?/
I wasn't expecting it this year anyways.
@ceilingFANBOY: sponsor me for PolarBearPlunge, link in prof...: I'm doing the same for MSG. Just started MSG 2, and I have MSG 3 in the waiting wings.
@PooPooKaKaBumBum: I didn't expect it, but I was definitely hoping for it. I hope they can get it out before the holidays in 09.
@pusheject: Agreed on Kratos.
However, it's the best action game out there. Turns me right off touching Ninja Gaiden 2 and DMC 4. Snoozeville in comparison.
@Soldrak:
Ummm... it can't be delayed if there was never a date to begin with. Wanna try again?
Eh, it's not as if I even expected it until next year Christmas.
@Kj719: I haven't actually played 3 yet, but I am going to replay the others first. I just bought 3 earlier this year to get ready for replaying the others. I'm so far behind in my game playing.
@Soldrak: Not really a delay to be honest, the game was barely announced...
Also, not really a surprise. I would've been extremely surprised if it made it out this year. Next is that "big surprise" when people find out FF13 isn't going to make it out this year. Seriously, at TGS, they said they were 13% of the way done with the game. Nowhere remotely close. Even if the Japanese release makes it out this year, I REALLY doubt an English version will make it out.
@Kj719: MSG?
Sounds fattening. I keed, I keed.
@Kai_: However, Kratos' games actually have a storyline, leaving them a cut above Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry 1 and 2.
It'll be well worth the wait. Not like it's been delayed, there was never a release date. So, no doom & gloom, eh people?
@Samos42:
That was never a true statement. They said FFXIII and FFvsXIII were 13% and 1.3% done respectively. It was just a play on the number 13 and its been reported as false dozens of times.
@TheCleaningGuy: blah...I'm tired :o/
I'm enjoying DMC3 PC version, (yeah, I just now got into the whole "brutally hard slash n' shoot" genre), so if I ever pick up a PS2, I'll have to see what all the hype is about with God of War.
@Saint Anima (PSN = PoeticMassacre): Doom and gloom? This is the internet man! And on a gaming site no less. If anything is delayed even a day, it spells utter disaster and failure on the part of a whole corporation, and the entire gaming generation depends on it.
Also, yes, there was not even anything shown on this thing, so I don't know how anyone could've expected it this year. I'd be surprised if it even came out next year, unless they've been at work on it already past the write-up stages.
@Sparx88: Really? Didn't know that. Never followed up on it though although all of the news sites I first read it on treated it like fact so I assumed he was serious. Still, I don't think it'll be out this year but that's just me.
Eh. God of War is total ripoff garbage, anyhow. Not like the world will miss too much.
its being ported to 360 >____>
@Samos42:
Kotaku reported it too but has since been reported as false.
@madhotch: I'll buy it when it hits $20. Unless it has already...
But otherwise, my exact thoughts. I hadn't played the original when II came out and now I'm just biding my time... Oh yes. Biding it!
Maybe they should do God of War 3: Prologue for Xmas 2008...
Then again, I really object to 'rumors' like this becoming headline news like it actually has any validity.
@maximus9: Maybe you should understand prologues are a GT thing and always have been.
I think this is just a good guess. It'll prolly be out mid 2009.
@Sparx88: Hm, well my point still stands though since I just looked up when FF12 came out in Japan and when it came out in the US and there's a 7 month difference so I'd say it's highly unlikely it'll make it out in the US this year.
Good. Please understand the PS3 hardware before getting out one of the only reasons I still game on Sony products. Thank you, Sony.
Well,it seems that only the people that does not care about God of War have written,let me disagree with all of you,God of War is very fun and the Mythological fantasy of the history is well designed,so I keep looking forward this game,God of War II pull the PS2 to the limits,perhaps God of War III do the same with the PS3?very interesting,don“t you think?
Wow! All that time... it kinda makes me gitty with anticipation to see what they're working on! I'm sure this game will look nothing short of remarkable. I hope they don't muck it up with crappy motion controls. This title is far too important to risk dicey controls on.
I don't care. GoW is always worth the wait.
~
"Don't worry guys, people won't mind the delay because it's a 10 year console."
I still need to play the first two games... I was thinking about renting them and trying to finish both in a weekend on my parent's PS2 when I next housesit for them. Is that doable?
@J.L.Jones: I played the first one, it was a good game (not a great one) i played the second and it didnt have any new thing, this one must have someting really new...
Don't see how anyone could have thought GOWIII would be out in 08. In March 07 the developers themselves had said that no work on GOW3 had begun and they hoped to make another, but nothing was confirmed. The game has likely been in development less than a year so far.
The countdown begins. Which game will come out first? God of War 3, or Duke Nukem forever?
Anyone who expected this game in 2008 was desperate. They're not releasing 2 God of War games (potentially 3 if the PSP one has bad sales) in the same year.
Has GoWIII even be officially announced yet? Last time i checked it was just assumed it was coming, no official announcements have been made. I was actually expecting a 2009-2010 release anyways.
@myd12: Maybe you should understand sarcasm...
Even if I was serious, I don't think Polyphony has ownership of the idea of a 'prologue'.
Is this that heart-breaking? Unless you love Kratos more than life itself, Heavenly Sword was supposed to be a (good) God of War clone, albeit starring a woman.
I'm definitely not heart-broken. There a lot of other action games with more "meat" to them, gameplay-wise, that I prefer to play.
@Samos42:
That doesnt mean anything. new FF's have been known to be in production before the latest installment even hit shelves.
I'm not saying it'll be out soon, but I'm rather optimistic for christmas '08 or at the latest March of '09. Its to the point where if a person doesn't see progress every month they assume it's behind schedule even though more and more companies are keeping tighter lips on their bigger products. I'll wager money there will start to be a slew of information getting leaked around September. I mean lets face it, you never heard much about MGS4 even before it got pushed back. Same with DMC4, it comes out in two weeks and theres a lot of tidbits unknown.
You think sony would let this game be released that far out. Please.
@VincentPrice: I believe that Sony did mention it, but really only in passing when talking about something else. I could be wrong, though.
I can wait. I absolutely loved the first 2 GOWs. Kratos is one of the most kickass characters out there. Who else has the balls to kill God!! Go Kratos, I got your back. In the mean time MGS 4, DMC 4, and FFXIII will hold me over.
