1Up's former editor Patrick Klepek is now MTV's current...Patrick Klepek. But joining Stephen Totilo to hold down the fort will be no easy task. Seriously, have you ever seen that movie The Devil Wears Prada? Imagine Totilo as Meryl Streep. We're not sure how N'Gai fits in the picture during those Vs. Modes...hmm...we really should have thought this little film metaphor through before typing it all out and refusing to revise. In any case, congrats to Klepek—we wish him the best of luck in his new position.

So, that makes two people on MTV who won't burn your eyes to watch. Good to know.
ahhh, a new position, the soul is filled to the rim with Brim...no wait...optimism...well...maybe some Brim too. The world seems as if it's your oyster, then the gravitational pull of the corp monster you work for begins sucking your life force from you.
congrats.
Thats a shame. I still miss Luke :(
I love that movie!
So basically in six months the only ones left at 1UP are the ones that can't get better jobs elsewhere?
Hmmm... maybe an Office Space comparison would have been better...
Totilo as the Lumbergh
N'Gai as Tom Smykowski
Kotaku as 'The Bobs'
;)
He's still an asshole for doing that story explicitly stating that the Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band guitars worked on both games.
Too bad this kid is the worst games journalist around
@smitty1123: Doesn't it stand to reason that, in his tests, they did? Maybe the preview controllers had less restrictive software?
Doesn't that make more sense than him simply trying to be an asshole?
@smitty1123: Yeah, Pat def had some highs and some embarassing lows.
Luke Smith's departure>>>>>>Klepek's in terms of importance. If Shane, Shoe, or Bryan Intihar leave THEN it's a big deal. If Pat got a Kotaku post, then they would get a week-long Kotaku feature/retrospective.
@BauerStyle: Little harsh, yes?
Didn't he start last June?
I remember that he moved out to SF around the same time that I did. Barely there a half a year eh?
He always annoyed me when he was on 1up yours. I always felt he was doing a bad Luke Smith impression.
Congrats and good luck to him though.
@BauerStyle: I concur. He was one of the worst aspects about 1UP, and all of his writing over there is a testament to the fact.
@Plunkett:
I calls em like i sees em
I hate that Carrot Top-WannaBe. So glad he is effing gone. Anyway good luck ^_^
Wow I didn't know Carrot Top worked for 1up.
@Moonshadow101: He didn't do any tests. He said he got word from IGN that GH3 works in Rock Band, and then explicitly stated that as a fact. Granted, I'm foolish for taking his word for it, but he is still an asshole for stating that something is fact based solely on hearsay.

@Jest:
I agree.
wowee...I love mr. Klepek. Good for him! that will make a fun edition to the MTV crew. Sorry for 1up.
I wonder how much of it has to do with his young age, his big 'fro, and his overall 'geek chic' vibe. Basically what I'm saying is that Jeff Gerstmann would never get this position, years and years of credentials or not.
Didn't really get a good enough 'feel' for his writing to have formed an opinion. Nevertheless, another week, another now-former 1up staffer.
I like Patrick but I wish he'd cut his hair. At least a little bit.
He does need to cut his hair. I always looked like an idiot with that hair.
Good riddance - Patrick was always the most annoying at Ziff.
@Lebensbaum: I'll second that. But I have to admit a little sliver of it is jealousy that someone younger than me was working at 1up ,on the 1up show, etc.
As for Luke Smith, well, I hate to slag off on a Kotaku alum, but I lost respect for him pretty quick after he left 1up. He was hilarious on 1up Yours, but when he returned for the "live" podcast with the 1up crew, he was nothing but a Halo 3 shill, and his sense of humor had gone from really funny to annoying. I really hated the way he kept interjecting "Believe" (the halo 3 tagline) into every sentence. This from a guy who first made his name by calling out Bungie on how they screwed up Halo 2. He was promising as a journalist, but he traded his credibility in pretty quick.
BTW, did anyone catch the "Sports Night" reference on the last 1up show? That made my day. :-)
@Lebensbaum: not the most annoying but close. I wanted to reach into my computer monitor and choke the him for his some of his retarded comments during his 1up Show reviews. He's one of the people that made me question if "reviewers actually needed skill to get their jobs.." I certainly skipped more than a few segments of the 1up show because of him. He will not be missed.
@catapult37:
Yes, yes he did. The question is how much does he miss it now? And can/will he ever get it back (should he leave Bungie and yet stay in the gaming industry)?
@Striderhayasa: Michael Donahoe is a close second. At first I thought he was funny, but the whole "faux credulity" schtick wears out fast.
BTW, anyone catch the "Sports Night" reference on the last 1up show? That was awesome!
oops...sorry for the double post. sometimes it's hard to tell when the comment widget is serious about accepting your comments. :-)
@BauerStyle: I concur. Have any of you read his work? It disappoints continuously. Then again, if it wasn't already rudely apparent, the games industry is ripe with nepotism.
@Jest: Agreed. Glad his skinny ass and big hair are out of my favorite podcasts.
1up hemorrhages yet another staffer... How many people are left working there?
Isn't this the guy who's every article was how much the ps3 sucked and how awesome the 360 was? yea he's a joke. good riddance
He needs a Zohan makeover. You don't mess with the Klepek!
1Up sure knows how to loose News Editors :\
Boy, aren't you guys a happy bunch?
I understand you have opinions about journalists, but some of the words said here are really harsh. I mean, the guy didn't do anything Kevin McCullough-bad. He was a good writer. Young, but good.
Everybody has an opinion. Why can't they write it in an article? I mean, Kotaku's all about comments in the articles!
A shame he's leaving 1UP. He almost raged as well as Luke. Well, not quite, but he was the closest they had.
Good luck to him. I stopped reading 1UP because every article that he wrote seemed to find a way to bash the PS3 and praise the Xbox, no matter what the original topic. Always thought he'd be a good writer for an Xbox blog, but not a major gaming site that writes about other systems. Anyway, now that he's gone maybe I'll check out 1UP from time to time again.
Good for him! Though, I can't say I will miss him on the 1up show.
