Since you've already done what was asked of you and registered for Activision's GHIII rebate program, you're probably sitting in a little fort made of boxes and sheets, camped out near your front door, waiting for the mailman to turn up with your new game disc. If you are, and need to know how many boxes of pop tarts and long-life milk you'll need to maintain your vigil, know Activision reckon the discs will be shipping in February.

I want a fort made of boxes in front of my house.
Maybe my house IS a box?
When does it start shipping with the fix?
@Hitokage: I would love a fort too, and wear a cowboy hat shooting the mailman with bottlecaps :P
What about Aussies?!
Back to painting the fence Huck.
Each day I hate Activision a little bit more for how they totally wrecked a great franchise like Guitar Hero. I really didn't think it would happen this fast, but with their first attempt at the game they've already failed in every way possible. Seriously, shipping the game in mono? I realize companies like to cheap out on Wii games because they think they can get away with it (most people for some reason think the Wii is less powerful than a PS2, or even a PSP), but you have got to be kidding me. The SNES was in stereo, for crying out loud. They won't admit it in a million years, but they tried to pull a fast one on everyone and they didn't expect Wii owners to be smart enough to notice their gimped version of the game.
Activision, Ubisoft and EA have all tied as the worst shovelware garbage game designers of this generation.
I'd like to also point out that I have the PS2 version, which has really crappy low-bitrate sound quality as well (but in stereo). Also, the graphics are quite a bit worse than the previous GH PS2 games. Seriously Activision, way to spit in the faces of long time Guitar Hero fans who've been playing the games since the first game. As it stands, Elite Beat Agents on the DS has about the same quality sound as Guitar Hero 3 on the PS2.
I didn't even notice the mono when I played the Wii version. Then again, I was playing on what looked like a 10 year old nineteen inch dorm-style tele.
I have the exact fort described. Only I'm waiting for my replacement Rock Band instruments and Dj Max Portable 2. D: My supply of Pocky is running thin.
I was interested in maybe buying this game, but I'm having doubts after they release a game that revolves around music of all things in mono and take months to rectify the problem for paying customers. I have enough other games to play, and in the end I'll likely decide not to support this one.
wii play? me, i think this is a bigger scam to boost sales or something.
Iii?
@vanderhoef: I thought it was only in mono if you asked for surround. (Or you know, mono.) If you ask for stereo, don't you get stereo?
@Dowingba
hahah that was dumb, anyway. I swear that my GH III for the xbox 360 has the slightest hint of slow down when "star power" is activated, totally ruined the game for me. I swear it doesn I'm not crazy right?
You're not crazy, it'll definitely chug when you activate Star Power at times.
I really don't like the fact that they make you send them your disk before they will send you a new one.
UK news please!!
@syl1985: Yeah any update on how Australians can get replacement discs? If we're still interested in the game by such time...
The Wii version is no comparison to those of the 360 and PS3.There's some games that'll just never be able to live up to their next gen brethren and RS3 for the Wii is one of 'em.Expecting it to is even worse.
I'm not sitting in a fort, but I am sitting in an inbox full of spam. Damn you, Activision!
@SirGecko: Its part of a multi-step plan to expose your personal information to as many anonymous viewers as possible. You gotta put a return address on the envelope, right?
@schtum:
Who cares? Get a functional one now and pass it off to a friend when the guitars go on sale without the game... or don't. You might even get a second case to make a Wii Sports or Zelda Crossbow Training case, like the people who got their Zelda Twilight Princess discs replaced.
@dowingba: No, it wasn't intentional. I hear that you can momentarily glitch it back to stereo under certain conditions.
@vanderhoef: And I was playing on a 52" Sony XBR LCD and I didn't notice. People noticed because their surround-sound receivers didn't identify Dolby Pro Logic II. Doesn't make it OK for a music-centric game though.
@SirGecko: Really? I haven't heard this yet. An extra disc sells extra hardware. Sure, it discourages new sales, but they lose those profits by paying to receive the bad discs.
@SUGARAY: On the contrary. My friend plays it on my Wii despite owning it on PS3 just because of the lag the wireless cotnroller introduces (not the HDTV lag). If I wanted surround sound, I'd pair it with my DTS-Connect PC and play the PC version. There's a video of me doing just that on YouTube.
@CZroe: No, they obviously didn't make the game mono on purpose. What I'm saying is that they knew full well of the mono glitch before shipping and tried to get away with it anyway. If they honestly didn't know about it then they simply couldn't have tested the game, at all, ever.
@SirGecko: This is precisely the reason I didn't pre-register.
First of all, their site is unsecure. You're putting personal information on an unsecure site. Hooray!
Second of all, the way they handle the transaction is just bizarre. We send you this, you send us that, then we send you this.
It's too much of a hassle and too open for an advertising string to bite. My television isn't even good enough to know the difference.
Now come on, where's our quickplay version of Devil Went Down to Georgia?
@dowingba: Ah, yes. It is entirely likely that they didn't test DPLII after getting it going in the first place so they were unaware that they broke it. If they knew, they should be ashamed... the least they could do was replace the labels and box sleeves with ones that have the logo removed before shipping.
I originally thought that I would be really excited for my new copy, but how different is it really going to be?
I think it's absolute nonsense how you have to ship your game back to them before they will send you the new one. I'm going to be without a game I payed $80 for, for a few weeks just because they cut a few corners to make extra money? Rubbish.
