The latest "Of War" shoot-fest is going to sit out a PlayStation 3 version for a bit longer, as THQ's Frontlines will be hitting the Xbox 360 and PC only in February. The PS3 version of Frontlines: Fuel of War, rumored to have been canceled when retailers dropped that version from upcoming software listings. Rumors of the nixing made their way to developer Kaos Studios' forums, with mods and admins not exactly denying the talk.
It's still on, says Firing Squad, by way of the publisher. It's just going to show up "later in 2008." Those of you not thinking "Frontlines who of what, again?" are assuredly relieved. You may sigh satisfactorily... now.
PS3 Frontlines Delayed But Not Cancelled [Firing Squad]

Fuels of War?
WTF?
Why am I not surprised. :(
Demo was very poor anyway. If I was a PS3 owned I'd be glad. :P
@Fadakar: Was a PS3 owned? What? If I owned a PS3, I'd be glad,** lol
I wouldn't mind if it was cancelled on both systems :(
@McWhertor: Those of you thinking "Frontlines who of what, again?" are assuredly relieved. You may sigh satisfactorily... now.
Such an exact summary of my thoughts that my first instinct was to yell "get OUT OF MY HEAD MCWHERTOR" and take a fork to my temple.
Crazy thing sometimes, those first instincts.
@TaggarT6: Its a cool game, or at least I enjoyed the demo. Plus the back story is rather nice. Hits close to home with the worlds current situation.

@Fadakar: Actually the demo was quite amusing, the little remote control units were great. Though the tank was a bit of a bitch to maneuver.
I can see it being a rather fun game with an online mode.
I do hope that THQ fixes up the frame rate a bit though, since it seems to skip at times. :x
@Witzbold:
Really? I couldn't get into it when I tried the demo. The controls felt very generic. Will have to give it a second look, but maybe I am just tired of all these "war" games, unless they are gems like CoD4 and such.
I even took Turok and Blacksite off my GF list after playing demos. Sure they looked good, but for shooters now with me, they have to be "really" good I guess for me to care.
Who gives a crap? I'm too busy playing Time Crisis 4, Uncharted, and Unreal Tournament III. If I want to buy a game soon, I'll probably get DMC4, Haze, or Dark Sector -.-
GF = Game Fly
Yeah - demo was not even remotely fun. PS 3 owners aren't missing out on anything.
I'm wondering how this game will shape up online. The only problem with it is that I already have enough online shooters as it is and I don't see myself needing another. It doesn't look like it will be better than CoD4 or Halo 3 so I'm not feeling it.
That said, it is too bad that these games keep getting delayed for the PS3 but it is better for it to come late to the PS3 rather than come full of glitches.
meh, not a very good game IMO. Never planned on buying it anyways, sucks for the people who did
@EnigmaNemesis: I think it might be pretty interesting as a team game though.
Funny to see so many negative reactions from folks.
Im curious though if SP is actually going to touch up on the back story, since thats what made me interested in the game in the first place. Will be rather disappointed if they dont.
Out of the 50million FPS games going for this year? 1 or 2 wont matter much -.-
I'm glad they've got a nice piece of relevant story line. Maybe I'll check it out on the PC.
@EnigmaNemesis: Tarnation! These here shooter controls are gyneric! That there right bumper is the shootin' button again!
The demo turned me off on this game. The controls felt way too odd.
@Digitalguardian:
I meant the way it played, the movement of you guy, etc ... felt "flat" to me.
@Witzbold: I meant the controls, they were so clunky it made me sick. ;p
@EnigmaNemesis: Did you play the PC beta? The online, despite buggy in the beta, could be alot of fun to play, despite how average the single player demo on 360 was.
Alot of the "gadgets" are alot of fun too, it made it worth playing. I will wait for reviews and what some people say before I write the game off...
Yeah I was playing the demo and it felt like COD4, except worse, i wouldn't mind if it never got released. I remember it kind of felt like a ps2 game, incredibly easy, and you are almost invincible.
@Scazza:
No I have not, but there is too many online games that I have already, and barely play now, so this will not be on the list.
Nothing beats owning someone with an RC helicopter.
Yes well, I didn't get a shot at a demo since it was never released on the PSN.
Therefore I don't care too much about this title. Could turn out good, could turn out awful.
Why the fuck is this a fileplanet only beta? Can someone familiar with them tell me what they offer? Some kind of beta-key/bug tracking system?
Because nowadays, given bittorrent and broadband distribution systems, bandwidth is irrelevant.
@Witzbold: And now Frontlines has transferred that sensation into video game format!
I was in the multiplayer beta on PC a few months back. It was fine, but not many people were playing it.
Playing the console demos, I really can't describe what was wrong with the controls. There was something funky with the movements and the aiming was far from smooth.
I'm considering buying the PC version depending on reviews, but nothing can sway me from my stance on not purchasing a console version.
Oh, FUELS of War. Why didn't I notice that until now? >_>
I dug the demo. Liked the fact that you could pilot the drones and get the jump on the bad guys. I had some issues with controlling tanks but otherwise thought it was a solid game. Does it have online co-op or just multiplayer?
I will check out the demo on the PC. I don't buy this kind of game for my PS3 anyway.
@Witzbold: Yay! I thought I was the only person that enjoyed the demo ... I thought it was fun, and I liked the relevance of the story, as well. Also, that helicopter was badass! There was a guy up on a turrent owning me, and I just flew it around the back of the building, up the tower, and capped him in the butt. It was surprisingly rewarding.
I know I've heard the term DelayStation 3 before

My guess is that this will start happening to strategy games much more these days due to the PS3's single main processor design: Strategy games are the most processor intensive games on the market as far as A.I. go and the PS3 doesn't have the chops. Trun-based stuff will work just fine but the power required for RTSs just isn't there to run todays sims. It's a shamed too because the kind of battle field the CELL could run transformations on would be insane. The game would just perform like a handsome retard.

@bluesquareapple: It had to do with the aim assist. For some reason they did not add any type of passive aim assist for the console and so the aiming felt very sluggish or way too fast. It is similar to how using a mouse without 'click-to' activated seems a little awkward. Other than that the RC bomb car controlled horribly, although they were going to fix this issue.
Not sure how this game will turn out, but after playing the demo that they released I doubt they made anyone consider it as a CoD4 alternative. Great game with a lot of possibility though; it just lacks the proper polish.
Demo sucked.
I played it for about 15 minutes and gave up. It kept freezing on High settings. I'm running a QX6850 with SLI'd 8800GTs. Something wrong here...
Anybody play the demo? Who cares.
Yeah, seriously. PS3 owners may be wanting for games a bit, but man this game demo sucked.
@Witzbold:
"Nothing beats owning someone with an RC helicopter."
Oh yea, I totally know what you mean, the only other thing that comes close is going prone every time you want to come up from crouching, I loved that to fucking death :p
@bando: yeah that I did not dig. D:
Yeah, I also missed the little controllable vehicles. I fell in love with them on my constant plays of multiplayer Nightfire for the ol' Xbox.
Why spend 60 bucks on this when COD4 covers the same ground in a much better way.
And is anyone else getting sick of these desert settings for these war games? I'm psyched for MGS4, but Snake looks like he's in a COD4 map. I understand that most modern combat is in the desert now, but I think the lush vistas of Farcry lend better to HD gaming. (listen up Killzone 2 developers)
@okenny :):
You might want to read up on some unconventional AI algorithms and how Cell can do them instead of spitting out the oh-so-familiar MS-esque lines.
If I could only count the number of times I've heard of claims of great hardware knowledge on gaming boards or blogs..
Eh. I actually didn't think the demo was terrible, but just so generic. Decent graphics, fun little unmanned vehicles, and a decent setting. However, the controls were a little wonky (especially in the tank) and guns didn't feel very realistic, but more than anything, I didn't think they really delivered on the game idea. The original point was that you would take different strategic points to advance, but it is still just a linear game. I would like a more open feel such as an RTS/FPS mix with a number of different ways to win. You don't have to take EVERY strategic point, but you choose how you want to attack to achieve the objective.
@Lou3000: Yeah I see what you are saying.
Id really love to see a game where they had more classes that could build things on the map such as barricades or other structures / equipment for soldiers to use.
Along with the usual medic too would be nice.
@Lou3000: Granted the games "special" point is suposed to be all the different types of unmanned vehicles you will be able to use though.
Didn't care for the demo, this game is a total miss at this point.
It's FUEL of war. No "s".
this game is from the makers of the desert combat mod for 1942. I'm eagerly awaiting it for the PC as are most of my friends. Hopefully they can deliver.
@SG79: LOL... make sure that developers are reading the same thing you are reading as well because this IS a known challenge in developing for the PS3. MS has never come out and said anything about the PS3's AI for the record. I hope I'm wrong and a flood of RTS games make their way to the PS3 with better AI than anything else out there but it'll take more than your disagreement to convince me about that. Let's just wait and see.
@Witzbold: Yes that would be brilliant. Like, having to keep a zone covered while a mobile HQ is established or laying a bridge. But really more than anything, I don't want there to be such a linear approach. Why can't I flank my enemy not just in a single arena, but on a more globa
