This should also be be released on the Wii eventually. It can be found on the ESRB list.
As A Neo Geo Home and MVS/Arcade Owner this is a great value for any Game player. These same games sell for upwards of $100-$3000 each for Neo Geo Home Cart System. Also consider these games sell for $10 a piece on Virtual Console and you are getting like 13 free games.
This is a great collection of games, a mix of old favorites (King of the Monsters, Sengoku, Metal Slug), and a bunch of games that were never given enough play time back in the day.
But where is WindJammers?
NO THE REAL QUESTION IS WHY ISNT IT ONLINE???????????????????????????????????????????????
lame!!!
Crap. I would buy this for the PS2 and play it on my PS3 if mine had BC. Then again, there's always:
1. SCEI hiring "PlayStation 3 compatibility feature engineer" and wait for PS2 software emulation on my PS3
2. Purchase a PSP Lite within a few months
I think I'll go with option 2. Been eyeing up a PSP for quite some time now.
Sold for the PSP version!
@RioHustlaInc: Seriously, what's with the lack of online implementation in these packs. Multiplayer is what made a lot of these games into classics in the first place and now that online gaming is just about everywhere it just doesn't make sense to me to neglect it in these reissues.
Lame. This had been announced for Wii also but I guess they decided to cancel it since a lot of these games are available on VC for $9 a pop.
The discrepancy between the price per game on VC and in collections like these is just absurd. I'm assuming the title will be $30, making each game about $2 a piece.
Windjammers in Vol. 2 FTW!!
Oh, and I I guess won't be buying anymore NeoGeo games for the Wii either. I mean hell, with the limited memory afforded for VC games anyway, I might as WELL be putting a game disc in everytime I want to play a game that has a larger memory footprint, what with all the shuffling/deleting/re-downloading/moving to SD you have to do.
King of Monsters! Please bring that over to XBLA w/ online play.
Titles like this really make me wish psp had a better d-pad :(
This is a must buy for me ... King of Monsters FTW!
Sweet Fatal Fury and Samurai Showdown i loved those in the arcade. Also isnt King of Fighters the same Fatal Fury with a few differences?
Any chance of the Cloverfield monster making an appearance in King of Monsters?
@skullivan:
VC is a rip off for anything above classic NES games.
I believe this is the first compilation of games that I truly believe is a good deal. Off with her head!
@JasonR:
Shoosh, don't ruin anything for those who have not seen it yet!
Thanks!
@Dang-fuzz: Online multiplayer would require a lot of time, money, and effort invested on a title that probably will still make a profit without it.
I can't speak for everyone, but the prospects of trying to make a ten to fifteen year old arcade game support network play doesn't sound all that appealing to me.
I wish they would stop doing this.
You know, seeing Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, and Metal Slug on there makes me wonder if SNK is going to keep putting out collections based around a single series.
FINALLY!!!! Neo Geo releases some arcade classics on a disc with more than one franchise! Definitely a must buy for me, even though I own a few of these on my Neo Geo cart system...I just hope there are no frame rate issues with these games, but most of them are so old that there should be no problem.
My PSP needs more games, but fighters with that d-pad do nothing but annoy me. I'll go with PS2.
@GUNDAM-RX-78-2:
Nope. Both games are mostly different. Although Fatal Fury characters are prominent in King of Fighters...
@DarthHomer: Ah ok thanks i was going on the assumption of characters without ever playing the game never could find KoF in the arcades.
@EnigmaNemesis: At least for some n64 and snes games its a fair price the vc...
Not a bad start for a "Classics" series. I'll be waiting for later titles, though (Shock Troopers: 2nd Squad, Sengoku 3).
Heck yeah, King of the Monsters. Heck yeah, Sengoku.
Bring back Riding Hero!!!!
Yay for SNK!
This was a long time coming.
Yet another to add to my PSP library. Very excited for this one.
If they release this for the Wii for like 39-49 dollars why the fuck are we spending 9 buck a piece on each one. and i thought we where getting the Samurai Showdown collection before all of this?
@tocatl:
Downloads are never fairly priced. Beyond the minimal cost of porting them and the bandwidth to distribute them its all profit.
The first Shock Troopers is possibly the most underrated Neo Geo game of all time, cuz it never got an official home release, I think. In order to play it on the home system you had to buy an arcade game (MVS to AES)to home converter called the phantom. That was an expensive investment for me, but I really enjoy my old school NG.
@EnigmaNemesis: Highly inaccurate, once again. $8 for two fairly unanimous top-10 all time games? (Link to the Past and Super Metroid). $10 for The Ocarina of Time? Sure, some of the lesser games aren't worth the price, but to blanket it like that is showing the kind of integrity you display all the time around these parts. Sorry, for a LEGAL way to experience those games, there isn't a better price.
@EnigmaNemesis: I'm so getting this for the PSP, I still play a ton of my time with old Sega collection on PSP etc.
I don't get it. Isn't the overwhelming majority of these games playable on Gametap?
Mmmmm Neo Turf Masters.
IT'S ON THE GWEEEEEN!
ACTUALLY, the d-pad of the PSP-2000 works like a charm with 2D fighting games.
this on psp is a must for me
:)
Yippee!
No last blade 2 == no buy for me.
/I would pay like $30 just for LB2 with online multiplayer.
@Kai_: ...what? why? who's against classic collection packs? theyre an awesome deal.
@HAGE: shame every game's not link to the past or super metriod, eh?
@jayntampa: same here; solid pack overall (classic fighters) but king of monsters is what got me.
@TheIrishNinja: Or Yoshi's Story. More games should be Yoshi's Story.
Hmm I thought SNK were dead.
@TheIrishNinja (PSN), IrishNinja2099 (XBL):
v
Exactly my point!
:)
shame every game's not link to the past or super metriod, eh?
responding to that
@Irenicus-the one and only:
So do I, was one of the first things I bought with the new slim PSP after having a PSP hiatus for a year and a half!
This is an awesome collection and worthy of a purchase by anyone who loves videogames. If Windjammers is in Vol. 2, that's another sale.
Now that the awesome is out of the way, what the hell is with people bitching how something like this doesn't have online (especially as its only for the PSP and PS2)? I'm getting sick of it. Yes, online gaming is huge today, but these games were in the arcade where you play alongside your friends. Are you people seriously too lazy to go over to a friend's house, or have them come over to yours? If you have no friends or family to do this with, there's an exception, but i do feel sorry for you.
Half the fun of multiplayer with such titles is the fact that the person you are playing with is in the same room.
This is the same reason i get annoyed with people bitching about the gimped online capabilities of the Wii with titles like Smash Bros Brawl (and the upcoming Mario Kart). I dunno, perhaps i'm just spoiled, having grown up through the 80s and 90s, and experiencing multiplayer primarily in the arcades, in friend's houses and at lans.
Online can't replicate the great social aspects of these types of gaming no matter how hard it trys. Text is unfeeling and voice chat is just annoying. Yeah i seem to have gone off on a tangent but i needed to get that off my chest. =/
end rant.
King of the Monsters, Shock Troopers and Metal Slug look like the only appealing things on there.
I miss that monster game (snes ver), squeezing my friends for an hour straight even though their bar was completely red. Then finally pinning them when they've had enough.
Ah, SNK. I didn't have to read the entire list, you had me at Metal Slug. Samurai Showdown (Spirts) Compilation for American release now please and a Re-release of Garou: Mark of the Wolves is fine too.
@Harteex: SNK is the phoenix. They died In 2000, but rised from the ashes as SNK playmore in 2001.
