I don't mean the game. None of us have played it (or seen gameplay footage, thanks). Besides, it's a squad-based shooter, so it'll have a lot more in common with GRAW and, we suspect, Republic Commando than Bungie's flagship series. But this trailer? Very familiar. Where have I seen that opening minute-and-a-half sequence before? Oh yeah. Here.
Tiberium = EA Love Halo A Little Too Much?

Did you think you could escape the coming fire?
Snooze.
All I remember was C&C Renegade and fell alseep crying after buying it on day one.
Such a disappointment :/
At the end when I saw what looked like next generation Titans, I was a happy camper :D
uggh, another C&C FPS? Renegade was a terrible game. I remember buying this game, playing it for three hours, and returning it to buy a copy of Twinsen's Odyssey.
and yes. despite the 5 year gap, Twinsen's Odyssey was a much better game.
So there's a slight similarity to a Halo trailer.
The important things are a such:
1. There's an Australian Youtube? That's just crazy.
2. There's another FPS.
3. It's Command and Conquer.
4. Plunkett's from Australia. That explains the Australian youtube.
5. I guess AU could stand for American Underwear, but I don't think it does.
6. Either way, that trailer was still pretty cool.
Looks like they're also copying Bungies penchant for having commanders who feel the need to give extremely retarded orders. It's not like, some inspiring command that resonates with the soldiers or anything pertanant to their orders, it's a one liner that makes him sound 13.
@aeonpulse: Im assuming you didnt go online with it. Just so you know it was a prototypical battlefield and was quite fun online.
@Garro: The soldiers I have been around... those are exactly the kind of words that pump them up :P
Its cool though. I'm sure Halo Wars will find a way to copy CnC.
Funny thing - the one big thing, the sort of innovation, that Renegade brought with it isn't going to be in Tiberum. That is to say C&C Mode (Base to base combat) which actually made the multiplayer god damn fun.
...Jesus, I grew up playing Red Alert and C&C95. I wish nothing but fiery burning death upon EA.
@NitrousO: hah, no, never got a chance. at the time i was living overseas, on a 32 k/sec internet connection. :(
First Person + Squad Control + Epic Sci Fi... = stagnant games industry.
is that a friggin rail gun?
I like how it looks like they're trying to distance this title from the Command & Conquer series by not mentioning it at all in the trailer.
@Garro: On the bright side, at least he didn't say "Bring the rain!".
Normally I hate non-gameplay trailers, but I'm intrigued by this. The idea of controlling a soldier or commando in the C&C world always seemed like a cool idea, and I never did get a chance to play Renegade (maybe just as well?).
That extend-a-gun spacey nonsense actually made it look just like the premiere Mass Effect trailer.
lol his helmet and gun were awesome. Everything else was pretty meh.
Ugh, I hate when they go for the "three swipes of dramatic text" effect, and the lines are bland. I get it, it's a team DM game.
If they just said:
"It's a team DM game." in line 1, that would free up 2 perfectly good lines for things like,
"get ready to piss all your friends off"
"you tk-ing asshole"
or something else that would actually make me want to play.
Holy crap, that was exactly like Halo 2, right down to the Mljonir armor.
@Kai_: It's more like FFXIII's transforming sword/gun thing. But this time it's five guns in one!
@Tocsin:
Its NOT!? Whats the point then...
I was hoping they would expand on some of the things in battlefield 2. If you're commander you can see the battlefield in RTS angles. I was hoping Tiberium would expand that out but I guess not. I'm a sad panda.
It's only really similar to the Halo trailer in that he walks up to a gun rack and picks up a weapon, and then drops down a hatch. Meh.
I like the armor/weapon/mech/vehicle design here. The way the gun and helmet fold out is amazing! I need to see some gameplay footage.
What, so you put a guy in a metal suit and have him cock a gun and it's Halo? Whatever.
looks pretty generic to me, but maybe that's cause I'm not into C&C very much...?
@Kirbytheslayer: The Movie:
There isn't a separate Australian Youtube as such. Using a country code instead of "www" gets you a sort-of localized version of youtube, but they're all the same vids. Example:
[www.youtube.com]
and
[de.youtube.com]
I'm just not feeling it for this game so far. This idea had so much potential back with Renegade but it just seems to me that for it to really work online (with all the different units and whatnot) the players would have to be highly organized which rarely happens. Not that they even mention online in the trailer, just wishful thinking.
@JayD16:
Why squad-based combat, dear chap, don't you know.
Yeah, me too on the sad panda front.
God, I hope this game is along the lines of TRIBES or Battlefield. Please... pretty please!
First I wanna say that because I allways post when I hate a movie player, I might as well make a post to say that this is a movie player I like, both the SD and HD at their site.
"To save mankind" lol oh god...
Anyway, nice trailer, somewhat familiar, but I still don't hold my breath for the game.
screenshots look like GRAW
cinematic looks like halo
planet looks like krypton
closing sceen looks like just another RTS
-
we really need some gameplay.
I saw Halo, Superman Returns, and Robocop in that trailer.
I miss the old days when Westwood was making the original C&C and Red Alert.
as long as theres a cyborg commando class For NOD im getting it.
We all get up out of bed in similar fashion ... our we all copycats? Same goes with this video. They are just preparing themselves for battle.
YIPIEEE for more genric space armored marine combat fps type game! YIPPIEEE I say!!!!!
You're stretching it quite a bit to compare the Halo2 trailer and the Tiberium trailer. Pretty much the only similarity is that they both pick up a gun at the beginning of it....amazing.
damn someone can't spell :)
I was humming The Last Spartan the whole way through. I love it. If this is some sort of unconscious association, so much the better--this has at least secured me in looking more into the game, if not a purchase.
Not any different from EA copying Bioshock with Dead Space and Gears of War with Army of Two...
I thought au was austria and aus was australia?
Wow... Another EA clone. Don't forget kids. EA leads the industry in Innovation!
@gam3r:
Accept Dead Space [Event Horizon], looks really cool!
@Kirbytheslayer: The Movie: There's a NZ one too, I bet there are lot's for all the small - but none the less way cooler - coutries as well.
@ywpark: Agree.
As for the trailer, it was shit in my opinion. RA 3 will keep me happy - the old Westwood trailers with Frank K's music were some of the most awsome that I've seen.
Too bad Frank's now with another company, and EA generally suck shit.
This game is the definition of selling out. I never played Renegade but CnC should never ever be an FPS or a squad based shooter or whatever the hell this shovelware is supposed to be.
It's pretty sad but RTS games just don't sell enough and that's why we get pieces of garbage like this game coming out.
@aeonpulse: I really don't think that the first FPS entry to the series in about 6 years deserves the phrase "another?" in a critique ofit.
I''m pretty sure the only similarities are that the characters are male, they have a gun, and they have armor.
Welcome to FPSs. >_>
And I really didn't see any similarities between those two trailers. Other than the main character wearing a helmet and having a gun, and I guess being in a flying vehicle.
@ShirtGuyDom: no, you have a guy in a metal suit walk up to a gun rack in a flying vehicle that looks like a wide pelican and pick a gun from said rack, then stand in front of an open hatch and jump from said hatch.
THAT'S what makes it like the original Halo 2 trailer.
for the people who don't see the similarity, look up the original Halo 2 teaser trailer on youtube.
than it'll hit you like a kick to the sack.
Honestly, it looked like footage from the Halo 2 and 3 trailers. The desert landscape from 3, the ship interior and soldier putting helmet and gun on from 2.
Do we know who's developing this again? If it's being internally developed at EA, leave all hope for originality at the door.
i read all that you say yet still want this game.I guess that makes me bad.
