Apple Movie Trailers has a new trailer up for Uwe Boll bomb Postal and parts of it, god help me, look funny. Of course, I'm sure it's going to suck. Maybe Boll's true calling in life is making trailers.
From the site:
A religious charlatan (Foley), his mild mannered nephew (Ward) and a gang of bosomy commandos face off against Osama bin Laden and the Taliban in an epic battle that will determine the fate of the world in POSTAL, the latest film from controversial director Uwe Boll ("BloodRayne"). Boll roasts an entire herd of sacred cows and smashes taboos to smithereens in this over-the-top and hilariously subversive critique of modern day America. Inspired by the notorious videogame of the same name, POSTAL is a jaw-droppingly original spoof of contemporary culture and an equal opportunity offender, lampooning religious extremists, minorities, bureaucrats, immigrants, cops, women, the Holocaust, gun nuts and more with evenhanded abandon.
Hmm, when did they change the definition of controversial to really, really, really bad?
Postal Trailer [Apple]

LMFAO - that's a great title. I think they changed it after he got kicked down to 'straight to DVD release'.
I've got nothing more to say on any of this.
gee ... lampooning the Holocaust is my idea of a great time. Talk about epic fail.
I know, i saw the trailer and thought. "Hmm, could be funny" i then felt very very VERY Dirty. Maybe they just had a really good editor for the trailer?
Great headline, but I would liken Ewe's films more to the ebola virus, and not merely a prank upon mankind.
............horrid
"the latest film from controversial director Uwe Boll "
Can we really call his movies... film? I'd prefer cinematic abortions.
BAHAMAS!
He should be castrated so as not to produce progeny that could be in any way similar to him.
Maybe I just really liked the game or something cause I'm looking forward to this movie, I absolutely hate the director(with the other 99%), but idk I like that actor and the game, but maybe I'll have to wait till Postal2 comes out in order for me to like it, pretty much how the game was...
Oh btw, no pee jokes? That ain't Postal
dave foley? really? poor bastard.
uwe boll and verne troyer in the same project.. *shudder*
I freely admit that I don't know anything about the guy's movies and this one may well turn out to be dreadful for all I know. However, with all due respect I'm getting a little tired of the flood of indignant gamers trashing the guy and his films because he DARES make low-budget movies based on videogame licenses. If his work isn't for you, just leave it alone. We as gamers can be such a bunch of insecure whingers sometimes.
@ChiZ_MacT: I felt the same way.
I will download the movie at best.
that made me hungry... anyone have cookies?

...just wow...
"an equal opportunity offender, lampooning religious extremists, minorities, bureaucrats, immigrants, cops, women, the Holocaust, gun nuts and more with evenhanded abandon."
I can't see how can it EVER be funny to perpetuate sexual discrimination and/or have fun with one of the greatest crimes against humanity of all time.
@kiigan:
Dude, the guy exploited a German tax loophole to make himself rich by buying inexpensive video game licenses and purposefully making the worst movies possible so they bomb and he makes more money for himself. I think he has earned the trashing he receives from gamers and film critics alike. He is not Ed Wood, there is no defense for this guy's terrible movies. He knows what he is doing and I give him credit for making himself rich, but this isnt a case of gamers being "whingers" or anything like that.
It was bad but not as bad as Dungeon Siege, heck it might even turn out funny in a Airplane/Top Secret sort of way which is what Uwe seems to be ripping off this time?
@kiigan: Umm, it's hard for you to comment if you've never seen them. Without knowledge of the subject, it's hard for you to comment with any legitimacy. The fact is, Uwe Boll has done more to undermine the legitimacy of gaming in public consciousness than anyone I can think of.
Non-gamer's often think of his films as the level at which gamers enjoy culture. He literally cannot direct or write ... somehow, he can produce and always gets funding. We're trashing the guy because the guy contsantly, perpetually trashes something we like.
@gaming_otaku:
I guess you don't understand humour then. Pretty much any subject you can imagine is a potential source of comedy. Bad taste jokes can be funny too - not necessarily the sort of thing I'd laugh at, but when it comes to humour everything should be fair game, I think. Wait until you hear the joke before deciding if it is funny or not.
Though admittedly I can't think of any funny jokes relating to the Holocaust off the top of my head.
@jayntampa:
It really isn't hard at all. His movies may well be rubbish, and I'm not claiming otherwise. But bloody hell, gamers need to change the record. You cannot convince me that the majority of self-righteous gamers moaning about Uwe Bolle have actually seen his films either, for that matter.
@gaming_otaku:
I can't believe I am about to sound like I'm defending this piece of garbage movie.
I echo what KIIGAN says - Humor is one of the most subjective things on the planet, and the things you may find funny AND innocuous aren't necessarily either one of those things to anyone else.
Humor is the best reflection we have of free speech in our daily lives. If some of it is acceptable, it all has to be.
...I hate to stick my neck out but I found the trailer to be funny >_>;; Besides Postal was a tasteless game. That was the point to offend. It lashed out at "political correctness in an attempt to drain it's power...
@gray665:
I'm not defending anything. I'm just saying gamers could try being less precious about their beloved subject matter. If someone makes a bad movie about a videogame you quite like - so what? Don't lose any sleep over it. Bolle isn't dancing up and down on your granny's grave, he's making (reportedly) bad movies that (arguably) don't merit the attention, ire and indignant anger they receive from gamers who could do with taking things a bit less seriously. In my humble opinion.
to bad Boll doesn't cut these trailers. this is left to skilled people who specific job is making trailers. Usually an editor for the studio, or a production house who serves the purpose of cutting movie traielrs.
It all seems to be done in bad taste, Uwe Boll-style. I'm sure it'll flop anyhow. I hope.
@kiigan: It has nothing to do with me (and many others) feeling a need to defend the games he makes movies out of. Nobody is losing sleep over these movies. No one is insulted because he didn't do BloodRayne or Dungeon Seige justice. The reasons gamers and film critics get upset is that this guy is not trying to make movies to entertain people or because he loves the medium. He is making these movies purposefully bad with the hopes that they fail and he makes more money. Thats why people have such ill will for Mr. Boll, not because he made a shitty adaptation of their favorite games.
You shit bombed my house!!!
that was actually quite funny. Reminds me of the 90's comedy movies.
Naked Gun type. xD
@Risky+Safety: An abortion is something that doesn't happen. Unfortunately his "films" weren't aborted.
@gray665:
I think you're being rather generous to the leagues of idiot gamers who insist on flooding every thread regarding Uwe Bolle with abuse... by suggesting they are die-hard movie buffs who are simply offended by his tatty films!
I totally disagree with you. Look at the most recent Kotaku articles on Uwe Bolle and you'll find lots of gamers just hurling about personal abuse directed towards the guy - it has nothing to do with the quality of the movies as such (very few appear to have seen any of them) and has more to do with any old excuse to moan about something and defend their hobby. How DARE he make bad movies about videogames!
There are many bad movies being made all the time. There are many bad directors out there too. But instead of just ignoring the bad movies, gamers have singled out Uwe Bolle and taken his work as a personal affront, entirely because of the videogame licenses. All I'm saying is, I'm tired of the faux wounded pride, I'm sick of gamers being so insecure about their little hobby that they have to defend it so rabidly. There are lots of movies that deserve criticism and contempt, but hysterical gamers aren't interested in that - this thread alone has a comment calling for Bolle to be castrated for goodness sake. Chill out, ignore the guy's movies if they are so terrible. Stop treating videogames like they are the fucking prophet Muhammed, and stop treating bad movie directors like they're English school teachers asking their pupils to name a teddy-bear.
I can't wait to see this "hilariously subversive critique of modern day America."
Sigh... I know its just marketing schlock, but we need a few more real subversive voices in mainstream media (but I guess that would be an oxymoron?)
@jayntampa: kiigan seems to be just like the "mass effect" reporter. They find it very easy to hold strong opinions about things which they do not understand.
I personally have never wanted to see a Boll movie...other than Postal. It looks so absurd that it might end up being funny throughout the entire movie. I think his "calling" is making bad movies on purpose, not making movies that are trying to be great and end up just being hilariously bad. Postal is the type of movie one would expect to be made up of nonsense.
@zenpoet: Yeah, not sure how the guy can be so passionate about something he knows absolutely nothing about.
I'd imagine he's just some emo kid who sees himself as a "rebel" for going against the grain and defending a guy everyone is bashing (for good reason) even though he knows absolutely nothing about Uwe Boll's "films" (I use the term film very loosely here).
Just this week I was asking, "Whatever happened to Postal." I should have let sleeping dogs lie. Then again, there are a couple of intentionally funny moments, which already makes this the best Uwe Boll movie ever. Maybe even a 2 out of 10!
I love how the example of the film he makes that they trot out is BLOODRAYNE. Surely there's SOMETHING better that he's done? Maybe a breakfast commercial?
This is the intro of the Postal movie posted on You Tube. It's actually funny. Go watch it.
[www.youtube.com]
I actually think that looks pretty funny. It could very well just be the editing, but the trailer makes it look like Postal has a lot of potential. I've only seen one Uwe Boll film (House of the Dead), and I hated it, so my hopes aren't too high for this, but it really doesn't look horrible. Granted, the only reason for this is that it probably will be pretty offensive, which will result in it being funny (hopefully).
It's actually a pretty funny movie. I saw it at a film fest this summer. Go see it. It's definitely not A-material, but it's Boll's best and is certainly funny at times. In fact, Uwe is in the movie and he is the best part.
@kiigan: Well I don't think you are giving gamers enougn credit. Sure there are gonna be idiots spewing all kinds of crap like the castration thing you mentioned. I also think a lot of gamers are on to Mr. Boll and have read about his tactics and his scam. There have been a lot of bad video game movies made (Street Fighter, Super Mario Bros, Dead or Alive) and also tons of other horrible movies based on comics, books, tv shows...you name it. Generally people will accept the movie as crap and move on. Uwe Boll is a special case. He just happened to choose games to base his films off of because the licenses are cheaper than comics or other media. If he was pumping out intentionally horrible movies based on comics to make himself a fortune from their failure I guarantee he would be just as hated by comic fans. Its a natural reaction to a guy intentionally flooding the market with garbage to make himself rich under the false pretense that he loves filmaking and games. He is a smart guy, he knows he will get this kind of reaction and he plays up to that. Don't feel sorry for him.
Gosh, has any of you saw it? I was at the Fantasia Festival in Montreal this summer when he showed it and it's really a funny movie. I can't say it's a marvellous story with all the subtle comedy. No it's a gross, trash and epic movie with everyone getting offended. I mean he's making fun of American, German and middle-easterner all equaly.
Really guy, I'm really not of fan of him, I tried to watch Bloodrayne but couldn't, really I just wished I could throwup on myself while watching it. but this one seriously kicks major ass.
Give him a try and think about what is the game about. it's based on a normal guy who tries to lives his normal life but on a normal day he goes postal and start shooting up things, that's what the game is about. Add a lot of black comedy, lots of explosion and you got yourself Postal the movie.
And that's what Uwe did here, he mashed all the good thing about it in a can, added a funny to hell storyline and filmed it. And so, everybody's hating him for doing it. If I can remember correctly, everyone was shouting to kill that game when it came out because all the gameplay wasn't so great, pissing on old-tranny and firing up little children wasn't all that funny.
I just wish you all could stop crying about how hard this movie is going to suck because I saw it and really it's a funny-to-hell-comedy.
Raising the bar for worst taste ever, streaking past Jackass and the Tom Green show...
I really hate to say it, but I chuckled once during the trailer. I thought the youtube clip was pretty funny too. But given Uwe's track record I very highly doubt I will pay money to see this.
@kiigan:
How many jews can you fit in a Volkswagen? Two in the front, three in the back, and sixteen in the ashtray!
What's the difference between a Jew and a Pizza? It's a bad thing when the Pizza burns in the oven!
See-- there are plenty of holocaust jokes. The first time I heard that first one, it was delivered so well that I collapsed laughing and lost my clan a Counterstrike match...
Tasteful, no. Funny? Maybe. By the way, I'm talking holocaust jokes, not Uwe Boll movies. Postal's gonna suck worse than a cheap secretary.
Guys, Boll bashing has become... primitive. Please, ignore and move on.
@Tsaketh:
Oh, and for all you Naruto fans, there's also that old 4chan chestnut of a macro with a picture of a bunch of holocaust corpses stacked like firewood are captioned with "Kage Bunshin NO JEWtsu!". The first time I saw that, I couldn't stop laughing because I had just gotten done watching some Naruto for the first time. Then I just felt really, really, really dirty about it.
@jayntampa: I think lampooning the war on terror and portraying negative Arab and Muslim stereotypes might be worse considering Bush is still in office and may be watching this movie.
It's funny. Dear Lord.. It's actually funny.
