Sure, we've shown that scores in Japanese gaming mag Famitsu shouldn't be taken too seriously. But still. They do when perfect scores are handed out. In the history of the mag, only seven games have received the honour of four perfect 10s from the mag's editors, the last being 2006's Final Fantasy XII. Now, it's eight. Despite it's recent delay, Super Smash Bros Brawl is still out pretty soon in Japan (January 31), and Famitsu's editors have seen fit to award the game a perfect score (click on the image for a larger version). Can you handle all this excitement, Nintendo fans?

Bahhh!, blarghhhh.
/explodes.
Ahg.
Cool.
Has it even been finished yet?
And I haddddd to give my Wii away to my nephew.
Must have.
I can't! I can't handle it!
NNNNNNYYYYAAAAAAAHHHH!
*face rips in half*
Perfect score, you say, Famitsu?
Translation: Ridley confirmed for Brawl.
Oh snap.
Well, they already updated the site tonight, and Sheik's officially announced!
They gave Nintendogs a perfect score. Every score is subject to suspicion. Even whatever score the games I like get.
I liked FFXII but that was clearly an 8.5 Famitsu, clearly.
Does that mean they actually played it or are they just saving themselves the trouble and handing the score out now so the aren't interrupted when they actually get the game?
Character Update on Dojo: Shiek
Ok, so the sting of the delay is subsiding a bit but not so much.
At any rate, here's kashikomarimashita's (Smashboards) translation of the actual review.

You can control tons of characters like Mario and Snake. Up to four players can battle at once. Cooperative mode is added in. Online battles are also possible.
*
Target Players: Anyone can enjoy this one
*
Average Play time: That depends on how you play this game

This time single player has tons of content. The adventure mode is quite long and fun. And the story presentation is amazing. As for the fights, with the strong unpredictable factor that comes with final smashes, more than ever we can be excited about matches not being related to skill. The controls and sound are also satisfying.
Score:10

The new unpredictable factor that is the final smash allows us to enjoy an amazing effect and refreshing feel from any character. The fights are even more intense. The single player modes are abundant and a plus. The Fallen angel Adventure mode's movie and action tempo are good and you just forget time while playing. Im highly satisfied with the game.
Score: 10

The powerhouse cast and gimmicks! The dynamic detailed character movements! The must see final smashes! There are tons of battle stages. The single player mode is also extremely satisfying. There is a stage edit, and you can browse through the detailed information in the game.
Score 10

Ok first things first. I believe Famitsu reviews are the combined total of 4 reviewers with the highest score each can give is a 10.
I especially like the review that states the Adventure mode (likely Subspace emissary) is long. This game deserves an epic single player to diversify the fun of the game.
Having a delay still blows though.
@Plan303e: He's too big to be a character you idiot fanboy! Jeez, how many times must it be said...
Maybe Megaman.
@aiwokote:
Hmm . . . seem to be missing a 4th review score, but that's all Kashi has in the smashboards post. Weird.
Way to go with the making me realize that I remember articles from a month ago. :-/
They sure seem to be getting liberal with their use of perfect 10 scores, especially considering this is a rehash of an existing game. I still have this feeling that if the Wii weren't doing so well, then the score would not be a perfect ten.
Omfg... You can not believe how excited I am about this game now, and I live in Europe :(
I hope ther retailers are correct when they say it will be out before the end of February.
*head aesplodes*
@Sabre_Justice:
Kirby is supposed to be 8 inches tall and Olimar is smaller than a soda can, so i figure they could resize Ridley to fit the size of bowser, and then we could all be happy. but then again, this is my blind hope towards Ridley
Wow, FFXII did NOT deserve a perfect score. It was a really good game, but the storyline could've been soooo much better.
@ceilingFANBOY: sponsor me for PolarBearPlunge, link in prof...: "rehash of an existing game"
Your definition of "rehash" is technically correct, but the way you say it makes this game sound feeble and dirty as if they just threw a bunch of stuff in a pot, some old, some new, stirred it, and presented it as a mediocre meal, filling, but not delectable. I reject that implication.
If it's not your thing, no problem, but this is on track to be the best of the series yet, and that's saying something.
@CitizenTian: Reading that at 8 in the morning I thought you said Shrek was conformed for brawl ¬_¬
Is anyone nerdy enough to know the other 6 games that have gotten perfect scores? I'm just too curious.
Give.
@Sabre_Justice:
What @Chanaluss: said.
And no fanboyism here, I'm just resounding with the demands. I would've actually prefered Megaman, only because I played his games more.
And what would his Final Smash be? Hyper Megaman from his Marvel vs Capcom appearances?
@mayamayouidiot: Wikipedia knows these things!
Only seven games so far have received perfect scores. They are listed in chronological order:
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998, Nintendo, for Nintendo 64)
Soulcalibur (1999, Namco, for Dreamcast)
Vagrant Story (2000, Square Co., Ltd., for PlayStation)
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (2003, Nintendo for Nintendo GameCube)
Nintendogs (2005, Nintendo, for Nintendo DS)
Final Fantasy XII (2006, Square Enix, for PlayStation 2)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (2008, Nintendo, for Wii)
@Sabre_Justice:
Ridley used to be, well, tiny. I would embed the image here, but I don't know if I'll get in trouble, so...
Ridley of old
I can handle the delay. I've already waited 6 months. What's 1 1/2 more?
So the game is delayed here but is still coming out in japan on time? Ouch! But I guess I can't complain looking at PAL.
Gah... just went from must buy to definite absolute must buy
Awesome... Looking forward to play the game! :D
Still have Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Resident Evil 4, Phantom Hourglass (currently playing), Tales of Phantasia (currently playing) to finish before I get any new games :) Oh and I recently bought the King's Quest and Space Quest collections... Gah... Too much games, too little time. :D
btw, did Wind Waker also recieve 40/40?
Technically the delay is less then month, even less if you consider Feburary, even with this being a leap year is the shortest month of the year with 29 days.
Ridley would be such a win. No one can deny that, even haters got to admit that much.
So seeing as how they revealed it, they must have their hands on a finished build, right? So how long 'til the secrets get leaked, then? I don't mind waiting until 2-3 in the morning for the latest dojo update but it'd be nice to have one big spoiler party, y'know?! March seems like years away.
*edit: "reviewed it". It's too late.
Yeah, so i'm gonna miss sakurai, Don't think the fanboys are gonna let him live much longer, poor guy! Its brawl on time this time or Sakurai's gonna be outta time! How dramatic! But eh, I can wait one more month in the name of a more perfect game, online smoothing and whatnot. We all blamed sonic for the first delay, so I blame shiek for this one. Cursed top-teir people, always having to piss on a good game. Oh well. Hears to what is it now? 54 days?
@phinehas: I was more going on about how with games like Ratchet & Clank, a lot of people knocked it down because there have been R&C games before, rather than rating the game based off of how good the game is, and this game, even though it is Nintendo, should be held to the same standard. I wasn't saying anything about the quality of the game.
@Nate128: I don't think they could have had their hands on a finished build. They delayed the game, saying that they needed more development.
For some reason, I'm all for delaying a 40/40 game, just to make it randomly better.
ok, so not that i dont think the game's gonna be awesome as hell (outside of friend code use), but the earlier article on how famitsu gives out complimentary scores to appease fanboys, id never seen that one. that kinda takes from anything they give a hugely popular series, and this feels like it falls under that.
meaning, its likely a great game, but i dont know how much this review really counts.
@ceilingFANBOY: sponsor me for PolarBearPlunge, link in prof...: I'm having a hard time seeing the connection between your second comment and your first one, but I'll just chalk that up to me not seeing things sometimes.
Regardless, I agree with your second comment, at least the part where each game should be considered on its own merits - taking into account how they worked on and added to the previous formula (if nothing was added or changed, games tend to fade into nonrelativity - I can't say for Ratchet & Clank, since I haven't played it, though.
@bangbangblah: mebbe, but which FF, outside of VI, had a better story? none that come to mind, for me, unless you count tactics.
Considering I enjoy many of the games they gave perfect scores to, I am encouraged.
It doesn't really help the sting the additional delay left, but it's better than nothing.
In other smash news, seems like everyone's B moves have been given their official names on the DOJO. Nice addition in my opinion.
Do want. Want want want want want want want want want WANT.
this is a sign of the apocalypse. or the end of my own life, at least.
Wind Waker and FFXII 10/10? Seriously?
Lets hope they didn't exaggerate Brawl.
@TheIrishNinja (PSN), IrishNinja2099 (XBL): Smash Bros. isn't that huge in Japan. Sure, Melee was a million-seller in Japan, but only just. And as the game sold over six million copies worldwide, they're not even accounting for a fifth of total sales.
Compare that to Final Fantasy XII, which sold more units than the sum of all Melee sales in the first week of launch. And don't even get 'em started on Dragon Quest.
I NEED IT. MY LFE IS COMPLETLY MEANINGLESS WITHOUT THIS GAME. Well now that I finished crying, good thing to see it is getting that good rception. I wonder if it may surpass OoT in gamerankings.
Yes, let us rate a game without testing whether the Nintendo WiFi lags or not...
Though honestly without multiplayer it's probably still a 10/10.
The Gods have spoken.
This makes waiting for Brawl's release all the more difficult.
Apparently, there's only like 6 other games that Famitsu has given a perfect score to and 4 of them come from Nintendo.
@Hiltz: Theres seven. Its only in the third line of the post. I can see how thats very hard to miss.
"more than ever we can be excited about matches not being related to skill"
Is that a good thing?
I wonder if they've had a chance to play a final copy of it yet, or if the score is based off of preview builds? Which is great when game reviews hype up features that never make the final product cut.
