The first Dragonball set images showed a shoulder bag and a muscle car. Not promising! Neither is this fight scene image. Perhaps it's just missing movie magic. You know, editing, camera work and suspension of disbelief. Boy that last one is going to be hard.

Stunning...
The images posted before had me cautiously optimistic. This picture knocks it back down to a absolute failure in my book. But, again, we'll have to reserve final judgment until it comes out; after all, it's not a Boll flick, so it can't be terrible... right?
CG hair/effect/everything else.
Just watch XD
I wonder what my 16-year old self would have said to this? DBZ still holds a special place in my heart, but would I ever have wanted it to come to this?
Tenkaichi Budokai scene?
Sweet lord what in the flying fuck are they doing to Dragon Ball!!
The use of those pastel colors make me think that they are fighting over whether the baby is a boy or a girl.
Why do they have some kind of sticks anyway?
Everyone realizes this is the Dragonball movie and not the Dragonball Z movie right? It's about little kid Goku. Not the Z-fighters.
Is this going to be worse than In The Name Of The King: A Dungeon Siege Tale or Dead or Alive? Please tell me know before I even think, for a fraction of a second, of seeing this. It can't be worse than them, can it?
@NESv1: You've lost me. I have no clue what any of that means.
Please don't tell me that last image with Goku in those nice modern clothes with the muscle car and all that was actual film material. If they are mixing that with the same outfits from the DragonBall series, this movie loses :\
On the plus side, it should be hilariously bad now. I was more interested to see if they tried to modernize the whole thing, but it looks like they're taking the exact same thing, only moving it to a modern-day setting (since it's still totally believable.)
Whatever. I'm still going to shell out cash to watch this for better or worse. Either to marvel at its greatness or mock it's efforts.
I don't ever remember Dragonball characters having to go through such disciplined Chinese martial arts training. Fail. This fails 9000 times over.
I thought Uwe Boll said he was out of the big budget movies?
whoa...I clicked on the "set images" link that leads to the previous pics, and all I can say is why is Clay Aikin playing Goku, I know kid Goku, but still thats just silly scrawny. At least Bulma better have big breasts.
@ceilingFANBOY: sponsor me for PolarBearPlunge, link in prof...: It's about Son goku as a youth not- as the earths long time savior/super saiyajin(sp?); Trying to stop Piccolo daiymo(help here ash?)
dear god o_O this is going to disgrace the dbz franchise.
So, when's the next Power Rangers movie? Oh wait, they're doing simultaneous shootings with this movie. I can't wait to see more American actors portray Japanese characters in the coming years. And I'm not exactly excited about this movie at all. I'm sorry.
Without the headline/caption. You will have no idea what it is. Hell, even with the clear point directions, I still don't know what the hell it is.
Hope the director gets disowned, bet you he never even read the manga.
Oh dear. Oh... Oh god.
Looks more like a Power Ranger movie set. If that is what they are going to wear, thats how they look, it will be terrible.
All this tells me is that movies look like dog vomit without the magic. Moral: we don't need to know what goes on behind the scenes--the same way we don't need to visit a meat processing factory.
Kids (and others) with no familiarity with DBZ are going to think those orange jumpsuits look a lot like prison garb... hell, I'm familiar with it and I think they look like prison garb. Way. Too. Flashy.
This isn't Power Rangers. *sigh*
Hah, damn, I wasn't the first to mention Power Rangers. XP
do not want ):
@Witzbold: Zing!
That aside, I've -never- gone out of my way to go see bad movie-spinoffs. However, this may be the first time where the horribleness is outdone by sheer comedy. Will there be an epic 30 minute fight scene of "anything you can power up, I can power up better!"?
I wonder who the bloody hell the folks in blue are suposed to be then?
Yeah i remember the scene with the swords, the muscle car and teenage Goku with a backpack. Man this movie looks awesome.
I'll give it a chance. Besides, they're probably just trying to modernize, stylize, and make the series more realistic. I had my doubts about Transformers, we'll see.
In better, much better news....

@KeithCourage: *Sigh* Only DBZ has the ridiculously long "powering up" segments and they're only regulated to the Anime. Why would an adaptation of DB have that?
I think that anyone who watched and enjoyed the Dragon Ball series already has a suspension of disbelief power level of 70 trillion so accepting this movie will come natural to you.
Hmmm. Either they will go all out with CG...or they want Goku to have short hair to be more modern/realistic. Whatever...
HAHA...this movie looks like its gonna suck. I don't understand creative types that feel that they have to change a good thing just for the sake of artistic recreation. I have a feeling they missed the point...
@Sento_Naninaki: I should have clarified, I don't know anything about Dragonball at all.
@NESv1: Oh, then I guess that means it's under nine thousand.
i never seen so many guys in pink outfits that should be orange since that one time in computer camp..
o_____________________________________________o
It's gonna suck..
@thereturnoftheufo: That would have made me happy if it wasn't so obvious he was returning and the game was delayed. It's going to take me some time to get over that.
Boneriffic.
@Trowble (XBL/PSN): Master Roshi taught him in DB. People keep forgetting that their not adapting the DBZ series but the forgettable DB series.....it could be worse tho...they could be doing DBGT ( tho if by some miracle this does make money expect it to happen the nest 5 years)
@kylenalepa: Films were terrible before he came, films will be terrible after he's gone.
@Witzbold: Bluescreen guys?
I'm really trying to hold my toungue about this until i've seen a trailer. But it's really hard.
But is this supposed to be Dragon Ball or DBZ?

Dude, you just won the quote of the year.

for the less inclined.
It's rarely a good idea to release images in the middle of shooting a scene - most of the time they look like crap since there's no effects, and they're completely outside of the intended shot for the scene. Not that I expect this to be a good movie, or anything, but I'm just saying...
@Zhen-Chan: I dunno they got white belts thats why. Which makes me worried :x
@fyren: Thanks a lot! I was told I won quote of the year already for my comment on the boomerang controller knockoff as well. Looks like I've found a new hobby: racking up people's quotes of the year.
This movie can't be good, period.
DragonBall is NOT movie material, never was, never will.
They might use the name, make a completely different story, create completely different characters, and then it might even be good to watch...
But if they try to reproduce exactly how the story goes on the Anime/Manga, it's just competing for the worst adaptation in history ever.
For starters, the actor, the studio and the director aren't japanese. They won't think in a japanese way, they won't speak japanese, the jokes that worked in japanese won't work in english...
And well, we all know how hard it is to make a good movie when it comes from comic books.
That plus making dramas from animes is also very hard (anyone watched Grave of the Fireflies drama? What about Sailor Moon drama?)
And finally, it is comedy! I mean, if the anime was dramatic... like Monster or Witch Hunter Robin, it might even have chances of working. But comedy? On an anime that relies on funny drawn characters, pun that goes from farting, funny deformed faces, huge mouths and huge eyes, and the "falling sideways" surprize effect?
Yeah, I'm still watching it... I cannot wait to see how they'll try to translate all that. Action scenes, speed lines and all that.
Specially after seeing that they got teen actors.
If I have to bet on something, I'd bet that the movie storyline will not even remotely resemble the Anime/Manga. It'll be something like a kung-fu movie with some special effects and some Hollywood like story.
With a teen Goku that has to rescue teen Chichi or something. Targeted to young audiences.
Some movies that comes to mind:

@KeroseneClimax:
I'm allowed to hope aren't I? :_(.
I must have missed that episode.
I absolutely love how closely Kotaku is following this story. The movie is going to be so goddamn horrible and I'm going to see it opening night. Can't wait.
